Wigan v Manchester United

Not good enough so far. Why is it so hard for our central midfielders to score?
Latter part of the half wasn't good. Gave Wigan to many chances in attack and the ball was played slowly. Too much backtracking. It clearly shows when Evans takes the ball and runs with it up field when Scholes and Fletcher won't.

Scholes should be going off. A yellow card already and telling the ref to feck off whilst pointing at him is not going to help him.
 
It was a nice touch from Tevez to set up Adebayor.

We've been better than at any stage this season, was a good half to watch.

In short summary, Vidic = rock. Berbatov = delicious. Play in the penalty area = poor.
 
What I would like to see in the second half:

----------Fletcher------
Valencia----------------Nani
----------Rooney-------
--------Owen---Berba

Neither Scholes or Carrick are on form, Rooney is able to track back from that position if needed and we would have 3 strikers on to pounce on those long balls behind the Wigan defence.
 
I didn't catch much of the first half (had to get back from my pub which only had Arsenal on), but from the last ten minutes and the highlights it looks like:
1. Berbatov is a genius (I already knew that though)
2. It's good to have Vidic back
3. Fletcher is still a poor finisher but he's made some very good attacking passes (to set up Berbatov's heel pass to Scholes, and to set up Rooney). Is he bossing the midfield today?
4. Neville hasn't been woeful

Yup. It's why so many people coveted Benzema. Strength, pace, aggression and directness.

We're playing well though. And our defence is better than Arsenal's, so just the one goal could be enough.

Berbatov and Rooney are good at picking out other players to set up, but wouldnt you rather your chances were going to Michael Owen instead of Darren Fletcher?

Thats the difference in our striking options. You can be sure that if Owen is on the pitch, he'll be working his ass off so that he's the one getting the chances. And scoring form or not, he's our most likely goalscorer.
 
Has Scholes really been that poor though? Apart from the fact that he might get sent off he's been alright.

Messi, Eto'o and Henry scored something like 100 goals between the 3 of them. Can you really see Rooney, Berba and Owen doing that between them? No I can't.

We really need a Lampard type to help with the goalscoring. Wesley Snjeder might help this.

He's not been great and never gets hold of his shots anymore. In fact I think the only one he has hit properly in the past 2 seasons was his goal against Barcelona.
 
We should of goal by now, it's a concern that we are not taking our chances but atleast we are creating them and don't forget our slow starts.

True, but then you have to sacrifice the all round play of Berbatov, who has done very well today and been involved of most of our best moves (the Fletcher and Scholes chances in the first half, in particular).

If only we could have a finisher who had a bit more to his game than Owen. Benzema, namely. Sigh.
 
pretty good stuff from us. Much better than the Brum game.

Just need to put away some of the chances. We should've been up by 2 by now.

More of the same with finishing added on, please.

A fair point. A deeper goalscorer could certainly help us out. We definately dont have anyone of that ilk that we can regularly rely on in the squad and it would certainly make more sense of the Berbatov and Rooney combination.

Yep. Owen certainly wasnt my pick... But he's here now. And I think he's going to be important to us.
