Liverpool Vs Manchester United

play a midfield of Fletch-Carrick-Anderson-giggs and you get height for set pieces, attacking and passing ability, defensive ability

but fletcher would be anonymous on the wing against them, we need him in the heart of the team to mark gerrard, and i wouldn't trust carrick or anderson to play on either wing so can't see that working, plus nani gives an extra option from set-pieces

Hopefully this is the line-up:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Giggs
Berbatov Rooney

Listen to my master tactics. Liverpool are crap at defending set pieces, especially corners. Valencia has been brilliant at winning corners for us, by taking his man down the outside, whipping in a cross, and it getting deflected out for a corner. Bingo.

I'd start with Giggs, but I'm also tempted by Nani. He had a pretty decent game tonight, and he's raped Johnson almost every time they've met previously. If Fergie goes 4-5-1, there's room for both players (with Giggs playing centrally), but I'd prefer 4-4-2 with Berba and Rooney up top.

No Im sure we've played it already this season, giggs is given a free role and Fletch tucks in a bit playing box to box

--------------Carrick---------------
--------Fletch---------Anderson----
--------------Giggs---------------

but not in quite a strict diamond as that, lots of movement and creativity

plus anderson had gerrard in his pocket

O'shea--------Rio---------------Vida------------Evra

Fletcher------Carrick----------Anderson---------Giggs

--------------Berba-----------Owen-----------------

I think with both Gerrard and Torres out we can afford to let Rooney rest on the bench for 60 mins.

lets make it 5 in a row for them

Rest Rooney against one of our top rivals???

---------------------Van Der Sar

Brown-------Ferdinand--------Vidic-------------Evra

Valencia-----Fletcher--------Anderson---------Giggs

-------------Berbatov-------Rooney

Was it? I didn't have it prepared, just saw nobody had made it the minute the whistle went which shocked me.

Anyway, eager to get talking about this one.

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Nani Fletcher Carrick Giggs
Berbatov Rooney

Is what I'd prefer, not sure if we should go 4-4-2 though.

valencia for nani and fecking go for it I say. 4-4-2 all the way

only becuase he comes back and is not fully fit it could feck up our title ambitions, owen and berba should do the trick with rooney on the bench

Could have sworn they didn't have them last time we played them at Anfield and they beat us 2 - 1.

Yeah, but their team overall still had a strong look. They played Keane up front and he had one of his best games. Kuyt was also good. And they had Alonso in midfield.

1:4 for United

Yes please.

What a golden opportunity to put the boot in. We could end their season on Sunday and provoke a total collapse of the club. Have no mercy lads. Waiter, players, scousers, Hicks and Gillette.....beware the coming storm.

He hasn't played for 2 weeks so he certainly doesn't need a rest of all things.

Lyon found Liverpool out down Liverpool's left. Whatever else we do we should attack there.

Van Der Sar

O'Shea
Ferdinand

Valencia
Fletcher
Scholes

Rooney
Berbatov

absolutely no excuse for not attacking them, their defence is in bits lately

Apparently Torres, Johnson and Gerrard might all make it...

Cannot fecking wait for this. I'll be watching online so hopefully there are some good streams...

Let's batter those horrible, scouse bastards on their own soil and get revenge for their last visit to our wonderful stadium.

We owe them a fecking hiding, and Fergie knows it (and Red Nev knows it, and Giggsy knows it, and Rooney knows it).

I believe (or hope, perhaps) that Fletcher, Rooney, Evra and Giggs have been held back especially for this match and are all in fact fit. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but it's what I would've done if i was Fergie (which thankfully for all concerned i'm not!).

I say we'll play...

-----------------VDS-----------------
Red Neville-----Rio----Vidic-------Evra
Nani-------Fletcher----Giggs------Park
-----Wayne Rooney---Berbatov--------

Bring it on

I think Fergie will put out:

......................VDS....................
..Nev..........Rio......Vid.......Evra...
Ant..Fletch..Carrick..Scholes..Giggs
....................Rooney.................

Its an away game in a difficult ground, so Fergie will try to dominate the midfield first and foremost. It will be a shield for the back four as well. Attacking will be 2nd in priorities. Counter attacks and set-pieces will be crucial.

Nani will not play I can be sure of that. He loses too much possession. We need to get hold of midfield. Park is a good shout. But I think Fergie will opt for an experienced 5-man midfield set of Ant/Park-Fletch-Carrick-Scholes-Giggs. Rooney will drop deep a lot as well. Carrick have to work harder than usual. He sometimes tends to stroll around in midfield which will not be a good thing when you are playing your bitter rivals. They will be up for it especially with the run of loses they are experiencing now.

I just have a feeling he's going to put 2 up top this time and really attack them. Perhaps 2 up top AND Nani is a little unrealistic, so maybe this instead...

isn't park injured? I'd go with val, fletcher, anderson, carrick, giggs in midfield, and rooney upfront. I think ferguson will try to dominate midfield first.

i can see rooney missing this game .. and berbowen starting

I know this is most probably unlikely and extremely unpopular, but i would love to see Owen starts in the place of Berbatov. Given that the Liverpool's defence has been very porous, Owen's positioning and predatory instincts would pose a lot more stress on them, as compared to Berbatov's languid yet creative style of play. With Owen lurking in the box, and given the emotional ties with Liverpool, the defenders would pay a lot more attention to him, as compared to Berba. Besides, it isn't very difficult to mark Berba, given his propensity to drop deep. Hope to see a

I am ok with Owen starting but Giggs on the left is a must.
The Evra- Giggs partnership will cause Johnson all sorts of problems.

Apparently Torres, Johnson and Gerrard might all make it...

Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

The best thing we can do is assume they'll all be playing. Then any who aren't is a bonus. I'm sure that's how Fergie will be looking at it.

Johnson playing might not be a bad thing for us actually. He is quite good going forward, but his defending can be suspect at times.

I would like to see:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Anderson Giggs
Berbatov Rooney

However i think we'll see:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Carrick Scholes Giggs/
Park Fletcher Carrick Giggs
Berbatov Rooney

Or if Rooney doesnt make it:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Carrick
Valencia Anderson Giggs
Berbatov

I think we'll be cautious but hopefully we're not overly cautious. Liverpool are there for the taking.

4-4-4-2 ?
Just kidding. Park is still injured i think?
You could very well be right but I have this feeling we will see Anderson
instead of Scholes.

I have a feeling if Park is fit he will play. Also, i too thought Anderson would play but Fergie's comments after bring Scholes of last night have changed my mind.

------VDS-----
OShea Ferdi Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Giggs
Rooney Berbatov

Pretty sure we'll opt of this one

He's had some very good games against Liverpool in fairness.

I know he has, but this idea he had Gerrard in his pocket a few seasons ago doesn't really ring true. He did play very well that day though.

---------------------Van Der Sar------------------

---Brown---------Rio--------Vidic----------Evra---

--Valencia-------Fletcher----Giggs-------Nani-----

----------------Rooney------Berbatov--------------

Subs: Foster, Evans, Fabio, Carrick, Anderson, Owen, Scholes
Prediction:0-1 win for us. Vidic.
Note(1): Fabio for Evra (if latter is unfit)
Note (2): Anderson for Giggs (if latter is unfit)
Note (3): Owen for Rooney if latter is unfit.

I know he has, but this idea he had Gerrard in his pocket a few seasons ago doesn't really ring true. He did play very well that day though.

The think people (including myself I'll admit) get giddy about Anderson's first time against Liverpool is because when he was named in the starting line-up, our supporters must have put their heads in their hands and Liverpool supporters must have been rubbing their hands with glee. But in reality, Anderson gave a great performance against Liverpool and up against Gerrard. Here was this 18 year old kid, new to the team and the league, going up against one of the best midfielders in the world and Anderson more than held his own. He actually riled Gerrard up that much in the match that Gerrard resorted to sticking the head into Anderson (something I felt Gerrard should have been sent off for). Anderson barely blinked when Gerrard did that, he knew he had him.

This more or less has to be the starting 11 & Bench:

van der Sar
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Fletcher Carrick Giggs
Berbatov Rooney
--
Foster; Brown, Evans; Anderson, Scholes, Nani; Owen

If Scholes hadn't played an hour in Moscow, he might have started, though he still could anyway. The same goes for Anderson, as he played the whole game - we usually use him to man-mark Gerrard anyway, so if he's not playing it won't matter too much. Evra, Fletcher, Giggs, and Rooney are certain to come in if they've rested up enough, which has to be very likely. Carrick will be the freshest central midfield player available, out of the ones who went to Moscow, and despite him only being on the pitch for maybe 10 minutes~ at most, I felt he did well to just step into the game and sure it up. Got a feeling Neville will be left out completely, after playing 90 minutes in Moscow.

It doesn't matter if Glen Johnson is playing or not. That's the area of the field we're going to expose at will. If Johnson is playing, we know that if he gets forward, Evra and Giggs will just get in for free. While if they play someone out of position, or an inexperienced player, we can do the same.

Missing Park probably doesn't fit into SAF's plans, as this is the kind of game he'd like him for. But if Liverpool are potentially without three of their best attacking players, Park won't be as much of a loss. It also allows Valencia to start a big game, if SAF has the confidence in him after impressing in Moscow.

For some strange reason, I have a feeling we won't win.. But I hope we batter them and put them out of the title race already.

I know it's pointless trying to 2nd guess the boss, but a lot of you think Carrick is starting at Anfield ?! Why ? Fancy Scholes to start myself actually. Midfield may look a little something like it did against Spurs........

Fletch-Carrick is the safe option if we want to win, but in the long term when we want to play Chelsea, Arsenal.. the real big teams, I'd really want to see Anderson in the mix. gives the team a fluidity we lack with Carrick and Fletch in the centre.

Fletch-Carrick-Anderson
Nani-Berba-Rooney

might also be an option Fergie will consider.

Key areas to consider in this game has to be our propensity to score from a set piece or an aerial ball.

For that reason i think that valencia and o'shea must start. They offer us an aerial threat, valencia for the crossing.

up front i will be happy with any of the three, i think berba will be good at unlocking, rooney is rooney, and owen is good at finding space.

As for the midfield, fletcher is a bang on favourite, and i'd put him alongside carrick, who seems to be in a run of good form.

Not sure who to pick out of nani and giggs, but i think i'll plump for giggs.

Can't wait for it, can't come soon enough IMO. A Liverpool fan I work with there asked me would I be watching the match on Sunday. I just gave him a look, an answer wasn't required as it was a silly question in the first place. He said he isn't watching it. I asked why? He said he doesn't want to watch Liverpool get a stuffing that's obviously going to happen
