Kansas City Wizards v Manchester United- Pre-Season Tour

Yep. I just called the Wizards office and got into the training session.

Did you have to get the VIP package, or did you manage to swing something?

Got the VIP package. $150 and an 8 hour drive is well worth it for me.

I'll be snapping loads of pics on Sat and Sun.

If anyone is headed to the match this weekend, there are still 15 VIP packages available for $150, which excludes the actual match tickets, which run about $20.

Contact: Stephen @ the KC Wizards ticketing office at 913-387-3427 for more info.

United heading into the greenfield:

So, just who is Manchester United?

By CHARLES GOOCH

The Kansas City Star (local paper)

The Yankees are very popular throughout the world. Is that the same for Manchester Untied?
According to Richard Arnold, the commercial director for Manchester United, the team’s worldwide fan base is 330 million. They achieved this number via an independent survey of 28,000 soccer fans in 21 countries, he said. That number accounts for fans who might have a team they follow in their country (like the Wizards, for instance) but also follow Manchester United.
330 million? That’s a lot. I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around how many people that really is.
It is a lot. Put it this way, if the team’s followers would form their own country, they would be the third-largest country in the world, behind only China and India. The team estimates that 7 million of those fans are based right here in the United States, and they obviously think there’s a substantial number of those fans who will travel to Kansas City.

Really liked so far from what I've seen of Obertan. It would be nice to see Amos get some time, but its probably more realistic to see Van der Sar, who needs some games before season starts.

I expect
Van der Sar
Rafael
Smalling
Brown
O'Shea
Obertan
Gibson
Fletcher
Giggs
Berbatov
Diouf

Interesting. Have never seen any stats on numbers of United supported per country. Anyone know how many are supposed to be in the UK? Ireland?

I am pretty sure there are more London Reds than there are United fans in Greater Manchester. however I would imagine the largest chunk of United fans are in Asia.

They are like the Beatles when they are there. When United visited Korea two years ago, over 60,000 tickets were sold out in six hours. The official ticket agency’s website was down due to heavy traffic (over 130,000 people tried to log on and buy tickets at the same time).

Chelsea and Barcelona visited Korea before the Reds and all tickets were sold out - but not in just six hours. So even the appeal of another top Premier League or European team just isn't the same as United's. United is special.

At least I won't have to stay up really late to see this one. 24 hours and 20mins to go until the supposed kick off time. If the last 2 are anything to go by though the kick off will be about 20mins late coz of all the feckin' about they do.

Hoping to see VDS, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Park, Rooney and Hernandez in this one.

The WC players start training on Wednesday. In Manchester.

They aren't even back in training yet and only Hernandez is joining the tour for the game in Mexico. The WC players only return to training next week.

When is this game on date and time uk? It's spinning me out all this different time zones throwing me right off!

Update: Evra is with Park in S. Korea. Saw a news blurb about them attending the opening of the Park Ji Sung Youth Football Centre in Park's hometown or somewhere thereabouts.
