Airtricity League XI Vs Manchester United

It isn't any guide to our sharpness or levels of fitness, that's the point, it was a money making exercise, and nothing more. Sharpness and fitness? You're having a laugh!

Alright mate. We get it. We are losers or whatever for watching United play a preseason match while you are some sort of supreme fan or something.

Does anybody have a link of Amos' wonder save?

Lets be fair here, the Airtricity XI were a team made up of Part-timers who only got together on Monday. The result shouldn't detract from Irish football in general, likewise people shouldn't get carried away by Utd playing well.

Berba again spends too long on the ball at times. He should release it quicker but gets forced away from goals. Overall he did well considering it was a friendly.

Hernandez really pings his short passes, it's a layoff and spins away towards goal - no hanging around with him.

This is true. Its a league thats struggling in a country that is largely disinterested in the league itself. I'm a culprit myself despite supporting Shellbourne when I was a kid for a short while. Sad to see

Funnily enough, this was Manchester United playing a game against a schoolboy team. What the hell is there to support? It's a training session!

Ok, you like watching the players training, fair enough.

Weaste why dont you stfu you arent half getting on peoples tits this last few days

Just the promise that Valencia showed tonight made the whole exercise worthwhile in my book ....he can be a fecking Star this season!!
Will you be watching the Chelsea game Sunday Weaste? Or is that just another training session?

He has been getting much nookie lately, which makes him even more miserable. It's this pact you see, when his children were born he made a pact with his missus to stay celibate.

One of their top teams in the league's players were also not involved due to European commitments.

The MLS All-Stars sucked and the league isn't top class but, teams that play together gave us a harder game. All-star teams don't always play well together.

Also, am assuming most players that are quality in terms of the national game aren't playing in that league.

Really makes you think about how great those players are. I have a friend who's warming the bench of a team relegated from the Airtricity League. Now this fella is the best football player I know yet he can't get a game with the team. The team that's in the championship equivalent. So imagine hoe far I am personally from the Airtricity league. Obviously the Airtricity XI is the best players in the top Irish league, and those players were absolutely destroyed, despite being halfway through the season, by an under strength ManUnited team that hasn't started the season yet.

Really makes you feel shit

I think the purpose of this pre-season game was to give the players a run out and work on their fitness levels. Nothing more, nothing less. The strength, or lack of it, of the opposition isn't relavent with these games. That's how United and most teams will approach these pre-seasons.

Yeah im the same, for a long time i was a regular to Derry games, these last couple of years though i haven't been. I still take an interest in the league and watch MNS but thats not going to help. I hear stories of Derry in the 80's having the best part of 10,000 at home games and taking a couple of thousand to away games. Sad really how its turned out.

You have a hard pre season and you might be tired for the start of the season and also pick up injuries. You have an easy pre season and you might be under prepared.

It's a fine balance and in the end you only know if you have got it right when you start the season so until then it's pointless discussing whether the opposition was too shit.

Normally before a game the United coaching staff will have studied and dicussed the opposition with the players to the smallest detail. I bet this hasn't happened once all pre season so far.. It's all about getting the miles on the clock, and not about the opposition. Though granted, some tougher opponents are preferred in some of the matches.

I remember seeing a fair amount of them coming down to Cobh Ramblers back then too. that's a hell of a drive just to see a game.

Most? All actually.

The Airtricity players showed what they are, amateur players. I think they acquitted themselves very well though. Mulcahy's goal was a super goal. It really does highlight the weakness in the domestic game at the moment though and I can't see how it's going to improve to be honest.

Decent player..I was cheering him on to get a second

Was it his header that was saved by Amos? I couldn't really see becuase of all the people that kept walking up and down. I was sitting near the pitch but couldn't see half the time. Where do people be going?

Just back from the game. Must say that is an impressive stadium and I have been to quite a few in my time, fair play to FAI. Those mexican waves were brilliant craic and the crowd really created a great atmosphere. Great entertainment for €40, it was merely a money making event, but good to see chicarito and Smalling, those boys have great skill and a determination about them, looking forward to seeing them develop. Rooney seemed a bit hungover from his world cup woes, a wonder save from Amos and a well taken Irish goal, good nights entertainment in my book.

It also confirmed for me that Darren Gibson is cack.

Shout out to The Physio for the tickets.

I take it that's bad?

Aahh Top, a man of your experience and years of online tomfoolery with Irish tards has never heard "cack" ??

It means he is poo of the highest degree, should have been wearing an Airtricity kit, and probably will do playing at this rate.

Thanks for your help with the image postting last week by the way.
