CHARITY SHIELD: Chelsea vs. Manchester United; Sun 8 August 2010

If he scores today then we'll still be cleaning up the jizz this time next week.

That is the team according to the bloke on RI who always gets early team news...

He's never been wrong.

Well I can't see us breaking Chelsea down then, we're fecked. Should have kept Diouf for this game, he would have been good.

Just arrived at Wembley - michael "he's got no chance" carrick plays from the off

Disappointed that there is no Fletcher to combat Essien/Mikel/Lampard in their centre but decent lineup.

Park in a 442 isn't inspiring either come to think of it.

it is confirmed, with, in all likelihood Berbatov and Hernandez on in the second half.

I guess some people want hernandez to start so that they can have a wankfeast over him.

wtf?

Owen/Rooney partnership should be our best partnership tbh.

Chelski is a team full of geriatrics...how cna you predict a Chelski win on that basis...wum...

I thought Carrick was injured anyway...

It's barely our third best partnership, they don't work well together. Plus Carrick and Scholes in midfield has no bite- we're going to get overun.

Told ya ;)

Right now pub.

WTF? Rooney and Owen seemed out best duo last season in the few opportunities they had. Agree with the Carrick/Scholes bit, they once were great together but as you say no bite and need Fletcher.

If there's a rule that's implemented then of course I won't argue with it. My point is that if you search match threads from seasons gone by, extremely few contain anything other than team names, so that's why when I've created threads I've done it in the simply "Chelsea vs. Manchester United" fashion. It makes it less clear on the homepage as well if you have the competition name before the team names if the club names are cut off halfway through.

Again, this is the first complaint I've ever seen about it, so I'm sorry if you guys have a bee in your bonnet about this issue, perhaps we should stop arguing about something that's really irrelevant and look forward to the game?

It always used to be the unwritten rule before we had a matchday forum and the practice has gradually fallen away over the years since we did. I think it is a great idea that takes seconds and adds very useful information.

Okay, no trouble, I will bare that in mind in the future.

I think the team is more about who needs to get game time than wanting to win the game.

It makes sense. Carrick wil be nowhere near match fit but that's why he's playing ahead of Fletcher. Same with regards to Park/Nani, OWen/Berbatov, etc. Most of those left out are already more or less ready to start the season. The more we can add to that list the better.

Chelsea have been shite in pre-season an' all, so I reckon we'll still be able to compete pretty well.

I don't think it'll be a 4-4-2 with that team. It would be more like a 4-3-3 with park as the attacking midfielder and rooney and valencia on the wings. I don't think Fergie plays 4-4-2 against big teams, but this is just the community shield so who knows.

No way will Rooney be on a wing after last season.
