CHARITY SHIELD: Chelsea vs. Manchester United; Sun 8 August 2010

'The best midfielder the PL has seen'. Such a players' player is aar Scholes.

Chelseas squad doesn't really strike fear in me. Obviously with Drogba they would be a class above what they are now, but I guess all the money in the world can't get you players that simply aren't available.

Fabio has also looked solid I thought, kept Kalou in control.

With tackles like that and his performance in the WC, you got to think Rooney doesn't really care about playing for England, but would do anything for United.

or that's all bollocks

Mate remember the qualifier for the european championships? Rooney gave away the penalty, against Russia was it?

he simply had a bad tournament, injury/fatigue/shit form, whatever...but he clearly gives a damn. It just ended up being one of those tournaments.

Here we go again...
Park has been poor, Owen has been decent. I don't know how you can consider Owen's performance poor.

Really? Looks very much off the pace right now. But it's just his 2nd match back so not a surprise.
Want to see Chicha on!

I hope this is the last game that Owen starts. He just offers nothing as a starter. Park looks well off the pace as well. Other then that, good half. Hope we get to see Harnendez and Nani from the start in the second.

Definitely want Owen to come off, not because of his performance but simply because I don't want this pitch to finish him off.

I thought he was decent, didn't lose too many balls and got himself into dangerous positions. Of course he looks a bit off the pace but that will improve with games.
I agree with you concerning Chicharito though

2nd game after a long layoff.

Well there's no other really to touch him. Right up there with the best in the last 2 decades, top midfielder.

Ahh but he said best ever. How about Roy Keane? but yeah, a great player, I think of all the English players to have played at the highest level, he's the one who seems to get the highest praise from fellow professionals - especially by non English players.

:wenger: 9 goals in 12 starts last season. How can you judge Owen after playing 45 minutes in the past 6 months and when he is in a different role playing off Rooney?

New season, same muppetry.

The Caf', what else ?

Agree with most of that, to be fair to Park he's been fantastic in pre-season so it's a bit of a surprise to see him so subdued.

Berba, Hernandez and Nani coming on

True. The only other three or four that come close were Keane, Lampard and Vieira, and Gerrard I suppose.

For those who haven't seen it yet.
