CHARITY SHIELD: Chelsea vs. Manchester United; Sun 8 August 2010

Has anyone else noticed Scholes is making quite a few runs into the box for crosses unlike last season when he would just stay deep?

Rooney looks 54. And Chelsea are playing Charlton aren't they?!!!

Valencias goal was a fooking stunner.

Reminded me of Germany in the world cup...

BBC: "Chelsea don't deserve to be losing, but Wayne Rooney's moment of magic ensures they are behind."

Guardian: "United deserved that, they've been by far the better team. "

Hmm.

Just can't see Chelsea retaining their title, will be surprised if they do. Obviously mssing Drogba yes, but a year older and they will struggle.. unless he bloods youth.

Good half for us, deservedly leading at the break. A lot of the players look sharper than I would've expected, Carrick has impressed and has played like he has a point to prove which is good, Valencia's been very much involved and Paul Scholes has been majestic as usual.

Hopefully will get to see Hernandez soon.

Decent display.

We could be a couple up and have created the better chances.

Carrick looks in much better nick than last season, Rooney's looked good, Scholes's looked good and Valencia has been a constant threat.

I'd expect much better from Chelsea in the second half they have been underwhelming.

Our wingers love scoring against Chelsea in the Shield. Giggs, Nani and now Valencia in the last 3 years.
And finally a winger of ours is getting the better of bloody cole!

Park and Owen have looked poor, the rest are all pretty good. And our defense would be a shambles without Vidic. Thank god he agreed that new deal!

Nani and Chicha 2nd half please

Only saw from about the half hour mark thanks to a crashing cable box

What a goal though, bloody brilliant run from Valencia into the box and the passes from both Scholes and Rooney

Terry just seemed to bend over and let Rooney bum him there, maybe there is some truth in the wild WC rumours, maybe he's scared of him. Or maybe captain big man is just crap. Nice take by Valencia.

Vidic > Terry.

Carrick's played really well.

Scholes should trademark that cross-field pass.

Rooney's tackle on Kalou was immense.
With tackles like that and his performance in the WC, you got to think Rooney doesn't really care about playing for England, but would do anything for United.

or that's all bollocks

Vidic > Terry.

Terry has been at fault for a few Chelsea goals lately. He can be got at, I would run Hernandez/Nani at him.

Jamie Redknapp literally just explained Rooney's poor WC. He didn't have the service.

Here we go again...
Park has been poor, Owen has been decent. I don't know how you can consider Owen's performance poor.

Valencia is too strong for Cole. Very composed finish as well. It wasn't easy because Hilario was narrowing the angle.
