MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Quick get on to Blackburn and get the 'one' back here stat !

We shouldn't have to match 200 grand a week. If he had any feeling of pride or loyalty for the club, he'd take 60k or so a week less to continue playing for the club where he is loved and respected. Whatever we would have offered him, it would have been definitely over 100k a week and a shit load of money regardless. If money is his actual ambition, an extra 50k(?) a week, then he can feck off to City.

Grans.

Grandmas.

Hope this helps!

Big point raised on Talksport:

If the fans applaud Rooney when he comes on as would have happened any other time is that going to look like supporting him over fergie?

no and it's not a big point. If the club is saying it hasn't closed the door then why should we? It might suit the media for us to boo him, but it's a personal choice. The fact is we don't know the whole story. We don't know what the problem is and it would be best if Rooney grow a set and release a statement....but I don't think he has the balls to do it.

fecking whores and now acting like one...

To think he could have gone on to be a legend at a club the size of Manchester United, he could have broken the likes of Giggs appearance record, Charltons goals record he could have written his name in the clubs very soul, such a shame hes had his head turned by a few pound signs.

If he goes to City he'll just be another mercenary.

He wasn't prepared to listen, he'd made up his mind even before his agent met with Gill.

thats just hearsay. Worst case we can still give wages somewhere close to the figure you cited.

Bizarre really how greedy footballers can be. As I said, he has everything at United. Being at United or Liverpool means so much more than Chelsea or City.

He never bothered with our contract offer which we were willing to match or even better.

Listen to the MUTV Fergie interview. Fergie said that there was no offer because they didn't bother to listen to one.

CIty must be offering him 200 grans a week. What other reason could he for leaving

Don't think anyone got the joke there

It's sad news, atleast for me it is. I never thought i'd see the day Rooney leaving United. Well, good luck to him i guess - i am not going act all twatish about it like many on here are doing atm.

I should actually enjoy other top clubs misfortune but really, this is a sad day for football and especially the premier league. A backstab of high measures...

Well that's going to happen eventually, with Rooney or without.

Hopefully he buggers off out of England though.

I don't think you could label any of the players at City as marquee signings. Rooney would be the first.

Players mentioned that they were waiting who would be the first big name at City before signing. Well now Rooney's signed, we may have handed them next season's title, if not this season's if he's leaving in January.

Not exactly torn down is it? More like removed carefully...

Yes, but it's the press, they have to spice it up like all of United are sobbing their eyes out and slitting their wrists right now. "Wayne Rooney banner being carefully removed at Old Trafford" just doesn't do that:p

fecking hell! Did that happen in the last half an hour?!

Rooney WILL stay...

Thats just my opinion. I know there are plenty of threads around regarding Rooney, but if I tried to say this in any of them, it would just be lost among the masses of hysteria and outrage.

I've just read that letter to Rooney sent by the stretfordend, so the inspiration of this thread is from there. Also, hearing different views and learning new information has changed my thoughts repeatedly in the last hour or so, so I apoligise if I say anything contradictory that I may have said elsewhere.

Man Utd fans have traditionally always supported their players even through the worst of times. Ronaldo is recently the most famous example of this, with the 2006 World Cup scandal and continuing to support him even after he had asked for a move to Madrid in 2008(makes you wonder the difference between that and what Rooney has done...).

I think Rooney will stay. This is just my gut feeling, but I think it will happen. What are his motivations for leaving? Its quite likely something has happened behind the scenes (i.e. shagging Vidic's wife and attempting to get as far the feck away as possible), but there are 3 main deciding factors.

Getting away from the media

Money

Ambition

Getting away from the media: This would mean a move abroad (obviously, for you numbnuts out there). Lets face it, the media are cnuts in this country and although they may be as worse elsewhere, the scrutiny on players is usually at its worse when the said player is plying his trade in the country of origin, i.e. Rooney getting stick by the English press playing in England, Torres getting stick by the Spanish press playing in Spain. Had the allegations of his private life come out and Rooney was playing in Spain, it would've been nowhere near as intense in that country. A breakaway from the media may help him resolve his family issues.

Thing is, I just dont see it happening. Madrid dont need him and have even admitted that, Wayne isnt the brightest spark so learning a new language would be difficult, whilst the most important thing here is that he's quite likely to be sent off in every match...The culture is completely different.

Money: Wayne, please dont let this be true. Theres only one destiniation that would fulfil this motivation that couldnt be done here and thats City. I had always thought of Rooney as someone that "would play for £500-a-week", so i'd be disappointed in him because of that perception more than anything.

Ambition: A move to Chelsea perhaps? A lack of transfer spending in recent years may have made him question the clubs ambition. Apparently he refused to sign a contract August 14th. This would mean the transfer window would still be open so can he use that as an excuse?...but its also scarily close to the day Ozil signed for Madrid :nervous:. I jest, but Chelsea are the reigning Champions and continue to look seemingly invincible, but even then I wouldnt be able to understand this decision if ambition was the deciding factor. We went 2 years without winning anything while he was here.

I think now everything has been made public, he will understand that leaving Man Utd is a close reality. Legends such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Giggs, Neville etc are sure to have a word with him. The grass isnt always greener. He has up until January 1st to decide and I think he will be persuaded to sign the reportedly £160,000-a-week contract by us. A move elsewhere just doesnt add up.

I also think some of the replies have been just a tad harsh...I know its all said in the heat of moment and it may come as a shock to most - if not all - of our fans, but I genuinely dont think he wanted it to be known this way. What do you all suggest he had done?

I think the most important thing to consider is that, like i've said, something may have gone on behind the scenes that we dont know, which is why he wants out, but I just have this feeling that whatever the result, be it Rooney goes or stays, there will be a happy ending for Man Utd and at the end of the day, thats all that matters.

Well he made it known before the season started he wanted out and has still been playing....so I assume unless his ankle never gets better(this could be a blessing in disguise as that injury doesn't seem to want to heal -_-), he'll play.

Surprised that Rooney informed Gill that he wanted to leave before the season started. That was before any injury problems or before the stories about his personal life broke in the press.

If true it goes a long way in explaining his loss of form, since it can't be easy being around the team after you have said you want to go elsewhere. Also if this was common knowledge among the rest of the team it could help to explain why United have struggled at times. (hopefully)

Now that it is officially out in the open, United can start to deal with it. If they can't convince Rooney to change his mind and that appears to be unlikely than United have to do what's best for the club. Get this sorted as soon as possible and get the best deal they can. Hopefully it's to Spain and out of the Premier but if it's City with the best deal than so be it. I just hope that any money we get for Rooney along with the Ronaldo money is spent on new players.

As RedRichio pointed out, this would have been daft on Rooney's part to kick up this shit storm without having a deal in place.

You just have to wonder if there is a deal agreed and already in place, and we just have to play ball.

I was never a big Ronaldo fan but I respect that after he told Sir Alex he wanted to leave and Fergie asked him to stay another year he got on with it and gave everything on the pitch and then got his wish. Rooney was asked to respect the club in the same way yet has taken the first oppourtunity (disagreement with Sir Alex about the injury, being benched etc) to try and force a move away. Its pathetic and completely disrespectful to the manager and club, he should have learnt a thing or two from Ronaldo.

As a footballer what do you actually need more money for? Is Rooney going to buy more houses and more cars? Maybe a private jet?!

Did the world need this thread? :D He let us know mid august and all these rumors and nonsense are down to him. If he's trying to destabilize the club, not only will he fail but he will never have it as good as here at united. Silly, silly boy...
