MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

He won't leave on a free. Surely we're not going to keep him that long. We'll just offer him out to everyone.

Has there been any strong indication that City is where he wants to go, or is it just complete speculation due to the fact that they have feckloads of cash?

I think a lot of people are as angry at the way Fergie has been treated in all this, compared to the actual news itself. I was shocked at the news, and to lose a player of his caliber is huge, but the real emotion came after the interviews, seeing Fergie respond in that manner wasn't right, he looked crushed from Wayne's decision, and that for me is the most upsetting thing.

This.

He looked close to tears at some points during that interview. Genuine emotion.

Wayne, shut the door on the way out. Moneygrabbing little shitehawk.

If he does this I sure as feck hope he doesn't get a single game in the next 18 odd months.

Personally I think he knows where he is going and he will be gone in January, pity we couldn't get him out of here sooner

If Rooney - who is head and shoulders above any other attacking Man United player - is not world class then the rest of our attack must be very average.

Well i wouldnt really class any of our players in attack as world class, just because they arent world class isnt to say they are average, and in Nanis case i would argue that he like Rooney is on the tip of being classed world class (well tbf Nani has a longer way to go but you get the idea)

Didnt the clubs agree to not use the Webster ruling?

Basically what Mike says...

No, Gutierrez went to Newcastle after terminating his contract using the Webster ruling for example. It was only the G14 clubs which informally agreed not to exploit it - that group ceased to exist in 2008 though, and City were never a part of it anyway.

We'll try to sell in January I'm sure to avoid this.

It has to be January doesn't it? There's no way he can stay til the Summer.

When I first saw the thread title,I was thinking ban for the author, then it looked serious, then it got serious and I got angry, now I am dealing with it, very soon I will be over it and justifying why we don't need him anyway. LoL

I suspect that he feels like he's under too much pressure and scrutiny since the WC and that he wants to play somewhere other than in Manchester, and somewhere other than England.

I think it's very plausible that he's trying to make a clean break of it after the past several months worth of injury, WC disaster, and self-inflicted injury to his image and public perception due to the fact that he's shit enough to shag a prostitute or two while his wife is pregnant.

I don't think it is about the money, and I don't think it's about the lack of investment in the squad. (in August when the club was first made aware that he wasn't signing a new contract and wanted away the transfer window was still open) I think he's not able to be a man and deal with the pressure.

That said, I had lost all respect as a person for him after the call girl(s) story was confirmed. Now I've lost all respect for him as a member of the club.

Not really. There is a middle ground you know. Besides, it all depends on your definition of world class. Rooney wouldn't get close to a world 11 for example.

Ok, lets put the bad feelings away... Rooney is a fecking brilliant player, one of the best. No matter whether he's a cnut or not

I believe Rooney to have unbelievable amount of talent. But I'm he's not one of the best in the world. He's nowhere near a Ronaldo or a Messi. Just not on the same level.

Nooshka I hope you're a lass.. could really do with some pick me up sex right now. Check your PM.

Sorry mate i'm a bloke got the shit nickname from a mad french woman though if you want me to put you in contact with her?

comapred to the other top teams in Europe, it is.

something many of us have been saying for awhile now, it's just that no one is calling us knee jerkers anymore after today.

Agreed, totally.

Fergie's fighting attitude is what makes him, and what sums up his United teams. We're all about fighting, about proving people - especially the media - wrong and coming out on top.

Seeing Fergie so genuinely upset and actually a bit... hopeless?... made me think that this is the worst act of betrayal by any United player, ever. To reduce someone as experienced and tough as our manager to a saddened confused man... Rooney can feck off and crash and burn at his next club for all I care. Hope he fails massively.

I still think it's got to do with the fact that we can't compete properly anymore, and it's only really going to get worse so why sign an extension?

He's told them 2 years in advance nearly, well what 6 weeks off, that he doesn't want to sign a new contract, if we wanted to cash in properly, it should of been done the second he said he didn't want to hang around, unlike Ronaldo, they didn't 4 years on the contract to persuade, they knew the consequences and presumably about this Websters Ruling.

He left Everton because he wanted to go somewhere where HE felt he'd have a better chance of winning for the chapter in his career(and he got that move spot on, barring Barca he couldn't have picked a better team) and earn more than they could pay him, now he's doing it to us.....as much as I love the guy on the field throughout his career, I can't say I'm truly stunned, gutted as hell? damn straight, but he's not exactly a loyal person considering he's cheated on his wife like 2 times after saying he won't do it again as well.

Whether we end up being successful or not is another thing, we may well still be, but he clearly doesn't think so, and quite frankly neither do I really, even before this all came up, I still of would said City/Chelsea would be more successful in the coming years, saying that hurts more than anything, but eh, gotta face realities.

I don't know. Fergie's just too experienced and has seen too much football to be devastated IMO. Shocked in the beginning, yes, but a man of his stature, I just can't see the feeling lingering too long. He's too much of a winner.

You never replied to my last post! :(

The pertinent question is, where is this massive global fanbase we have? Why aren't the supporters in the subcontinent out burning effigies of Rooney, or shouting 'Death to Vane Rooney'.

I tried to do my bit, and get a rent a crowd, but the missus shouted me down :(

I just prey he's taking on board the national critisism of him...everyone I've spoken too or seen on telly has condemed his actions.

As many of you know, I am not Fergies greatest supporter. In the past I feel he's been a bully, a tyrant, and in some cases even a bare faced liar.

However, that being said, in the 24 years he's been at United, I have never ever seen him speak so honestly, and openly about his dealings with a player.

How many times have you ever known Fergie to come out and openly admit a players has asked to leave ? Or even discussed the conversation in any detail.

It was the way he spoke, and how genuinely shocked he was, that proved to me beyond all doubt that whatever is happening is not happening because of anything Fergie has done.

For all his faults, that interview with Fergie was the first time I've looked at him and felt genuine sympathy with him.

I don't see why we should play him again. His heart isn't at the club and he doesn't deserve the honor of playing for us.

I've never seen him look like that. I hope Rooney is feeling some real shame after seeing that, doubtful, considering what's caused all this, but all the same he couldn't have seen that and felt too good about himself. It's a sad state of affairs when a player who has had so much patience and support heaped on him at every opportunity, can turn around and throw it back without any warning.

Have a look at that 'rise' thread in this forum. It's from January when we were discussing whether Wayne would be worth the extra money, or if he is our best player. It's interesting to see.

What is this we cant compete anymore crap? We were doing very well in the last 4 years or so, and we will continue to do so

It goes beyond just United though as far as I can remember, has there been a worse case of betrayal than if Rooney goes to City? I mean we've all talked about how the likes of Fabregas no longer want to play for their club and will be gone pretty soon because he's a foreign player who has a dream of playing for his hometown club, or Torres who isnt going to stick around when his club arent winning things. But here the lack of professionalism and the cloak and dagger nature of this from Rooney... Its just unbelievable. And yet its true.

What tops this, if he does go to City? What could top this?

Might just mean he'll fancy sticking around a little longer. :)

It hasn't though all it takes is a statement saying he's hoping to negotiate a contract with us and an apology and he'd be loved again

It's not going to happen but it's not beyond repair yet.

Exactly. He'll wake up in the morning thinking 'Right, no Rooney. Over and done with. And this is how I'm going to construct things without him'.

Before the 06/07 season Chelsea looked like they were going to walk the title for the next ten seasons. Then Ronaldo came into his own and literally owned the English Premier League. That's what great players do.

I'm not normally this cynical, and no doubt Fergie is disappointed, but I think he's played the interview like the master tactician that he is...look at all of us, minus 1 or 2, just about everyone has already sided with Fergie and United, without waiting to hear Rooney or his agents.

He didn't look sad when he was laughing it up last night at Ewood Park...so I think at least some part of the 'sorrow' is Fergie playing mindgames. Wayne Rooney has gone from hero to zero off the back of that interview, not just because of his demands, but the way Fergie put them across, and articulated them.

Thats what gets me, if a foreigner does it i almost understand the decision - when Vidic was thought to leave in the summer i almost convinced myself that its not too bad hes looking for a new challenge. But with Rooney? The only motivation i can see is money and i think thats what almost sickens me because i really did think Rooney was the last breed of loyal players

Conspiracy theory - what if Colleen's said the only way she'll take him back is if they leave the country - sorry I've been watching reruns of footballer's wives, but it would explain the bizzarre nature of it all.

I tend to agree with that. I just find it hard to believe it would depress a man of Fergie's standing. I mean can you imagine Mourinho shattered if John Terry left Chelsea? feck that, he'll know he can deal with it easily.

Besides, he's known for awhile right. He's know since Aug 15th from what I read?

Has anyone said this yet? Hernandez is the new Rooney.

Immensely talented player, but other than last season he has always been inconsistent. I agree that Ronaldo was the far bigger loss.

Or Rooneys going to leave Colleen for that hooker and thought he wouldnt be looked down on by City or their fans for it
