I still think it's got to do with the fact that we can't compete properly anymore, and it's only really going to get worse so why sign an extension?
He's told them 2 years in advance nearly, well what 6 weeks off, that he doesn't want to sign a new contract, if we wanted to cash in properly, it should of been done the second he said he didn't want to hang around, unlike Ronaldo, they didn't 4 years on the contract to persuade, they knew the consequences and presumably about this Websters Ruling.
He left Everton because he wanted to go somewhere where HE felt he'd have a better chance of winning for the chapter in his career(and he got that move spot on, barring Barca he couldn't have picked a better team) and earn more than they could pay him, now he's doing it to us.....as much as I love the guy on the field throughout his career, I can't say I'm truly stunned, gutted as hell? damn straight, but he's not exactly a loyal person considering he's cheated on his wife like 2 times after saying he won't do it again as well.
Whether we end up being successful or not is another thing, we may well still be, but he clearly doesn't think so, and quite frankly neither do I really, even before this all came up, I still of would said City/Chelsea would be more successful in the coming years, saying that hurts more than anything, but eh, gotta face realities.
