MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

They might all be valid points, if he'd have come out in the summer and started with the record straight.

He didn't, he's basically fecked us over both on and off the pitch.

It's money, money, money.

Totally, because I wouldn't be suprised if he don't play him again.

He can rot in the reserves for all I care, complete cnut.

What an absolute load of agent driven bullshuck that statement is.

Seriously, does this Judas take us for a bunch of idiots? Get the feck out of my club and stay out.

Deary me...this, as someone had pointed out, THE teamtalk for the rest if the season. What a retarded bunch the team behind Rooney are. Let's hope he passes any medical as I reckon his ankle is perma-crocked.

Oh I agree. Rooney's just about won everything possible in club football, so unlike say Gerrard he has no right to moan about the lack of ambition, quite frankly. I think his only interest is in his bank balance....and to be at the top of the earners list.

Nah. The best players should want to win trophies all the time.

If Wayne Rooney had a few brain cells, he would have atleast made up some shit about wanting to leave to go abroad because of his private life.

This will spur on the lads as the Benitez team talk :)

The Manchester call girls will be hoping he goes to City as they wouldn't want to see their turnover falling. He will be caught again, can't wait

Just read the interview. Absolutely disgusted.

Fergie, informed it's his 2,000th game as manager: "It feels like the 10,000th after this week" #mufc

I think Fergie is much closer to Gill than he is with Rooney...He'll already know. Personally I don't think he even said anything...I think Rooney's bullshitting. Apparently this meeting was last week, yet Fergie said he told them in August?...It doesn't match. Not that Gill isn't hiding something, but I don't think blaming it on Gill is a masterstroke, I think it's the last deseperate act of an idiot and an agent.

Thats the impression I always get. From what I've seen, SAF and Gill are pretty much perfectly aligned and row in the same boat... both have to put up with the restrictions and policies that the Glazer ownership forces upon them, they are on the same side.

It's a shock, to be sure, but not as big a one as when he plays for his new club for the first time.

However, that's modern football for you. United will go on, one way or another, and at least we can't ever say it's boring!

You think that is better than what we currently have? Seriously?

Not only is our current squad better, the potential in our current sqaud is much better.

Again, read the post properly. I said we had more quality players back then to fall back on than we do now. I said that we had a few duds in there. Look at that squad above.

We had more top class players there: Ferdinand Giggs and Scholes (when they were obviously younger and better), Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo.

Who are these supposed top class players that we have now that are of that type of quality? Vidic and Van Der Sar maybe.

Rooney is on his way to Liverpool. I know because I heard Roy Hodgson saying "Looks like Wayne's coming." I didn't hear the rest though because it started pissing down.

sorry....

Well that statement was an utter load of bollocks. The only reason he could give for leaving Man Utd is "ambition" without him looking like a traitor and money-grabbing bastard. His agent is clearly smart enough to see that Nike and Coca Cola won't spend as much money on sponsoring someone perceived in public as a cock and so clearly has come out with that statement with the clearly hollow praise for SAF etc.

So according to Wayne, after winning the title 3 years on the trot and reaching two 2 CL finals in those 3 years, we "only" come second (by a point) and only reach the QF of the CL the following years. Hmm, we must've turned shite, tell me we're gonna spend £50m on Kaka or I'll feck off. I could somewhat understand if we were at the stage that Arsenal are at now if we hadn't won a trophy for 5 seasons and he was 28/29 with only a few years left at his prime. feck off though after one "average" season at 24 years of age when you came into a Utd team with the likes of Miller, Bellion, Fortune and co regularly getting a game. Even if he was genuinely concerned about the state of the team, does it sound like a remotely interested/loyal player if he doesn't sign a contract, wait it out for a couple of seasons and see where the team goes or go if SAF goes?

He respects SAF so much yet he doesn't trust the manager's judgement at all and is clearly making up bollocks in the media. feck off Rooney.

Well you've changed your tune from saying he could end up a hero and that the average neutral won't think he's a cnut then....Cos I don't believe either of those will happen even remotely.

I agree with that..

The way I read it is this.

Rooneys agent went to United in August, and told them "look if theres no players coming in, I am off"

Gill, doing what he does best, fed him the "everything is fine.. We've got the money"

Rooney then sees that the money hasnt been spent, and goes back to Gill and says "hang on a mo.. what the feck is this crap. You promised me big names, we're bought fecking Bebe.. You've gone back on your word"

Gill then drops the bombshell ( which isnt a bombshell because we all fecking knew it anyway ) "sorry wayne. we're skint.. we cant afford anyone"

Cue ROoney throwing his teddy out the pram and saying "feck that then. I am going.. you promised me big names. You havent delivered. City are offering me shit loads of money so if I am going to play with crap players I may as well get paid more for doing it"

Poor old Fergie is sat in the middle with his head in his hands wondering what the feck is going on.

If SAF and Gill have their hands held in transfers, they've seemingly taken the mindset of 'right, let's try to find a way to make this work'. Rooney's taken the mindset of 'right, a lot of money over there. I'm out.'

BBC Presenter: Does he have a right to ask for those assurances?

Alan Green and Mark Lawrenson: No

Rooney said he was seeking assurances from Gill about the future squad. Shouldn't Rooney be speaking to SAF instead? afterall, it is SAF who decides the composition and recruitment of playing staff with the budget allocated to him.

So for everything you previously said... You actually believe Rooney's statement!

They are absolutely correct. If even THEY get it...

But we don't sign World Class players. Thats not what United is about.

But we used to sign the best young players around. The likes of Ronaldo, Keane, Rooney himself. The best young players in the world. Now we sign the likes of Smalling and Bebe. The comparison simply isn't there. Players of the calibre of Ozil (as an example) are the quality of young players we used to be in the market for. There is a hell of a difference between our current transfer prowess and ambitions to our previous one.

This need quoting. In large text.

Rooney's treading new ground here. Loads of examples of players who fancied a move, whether for a better chance of a trophy, or a fatter contract (Torres and Fabregas spring to mind) but this is the first time any footballer has ever tried to bully the club/manager into giving him what he wants with such a public display of dissent. Fergie can't ever pick him again after this. He's been astonishingly disrespectful to his manager and his team-mates. There's no way he can start another game.

I couldn't give a feck about whether there's any truth to his alleged reasons for wanting to leave (and there might well be) but the way he's going about it is setting a new low.

And he's doing all this immediately after spending the summer letting down his country and disgracing his family?

Absolutely despicable human being. Scum of the earth. I hope he's shown the door tomorrow. Don't give a feck whether we get any money for him or not. Not fit to wear the shirt.

Very well said Pogue, I can't see how anyone can fall for that interview.

Alan Green and Mark Lawrenson: No

Why shouldn't he though?

Surely a player would like to know what direction the club is going in. His future decision would surely depend on it. Challenging for the top trophies or not, it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask in my opinion.

Lawrenson was absolutely right in what he was saying, and he sounded remarkably candid about it, he just seemed pissed off at football.

The guy from MUST on the other hand was being a cnut, Joga_Bonito is right, I'll have nothing more to do with them.

If SAF and Gill have their hands held in transfers, they've seemingly taken the mindset of 'right, let's try to find a way to make this work'. Rooney's taken the mindset of 'right, a lot of money over there. I'm out.'

But on the reverse side, Gill has constantly come out and told us that there are no restrictions, and things are no different to the PLC or at any other club.

Now if he's told Rooneys agent differently, then what exactly has been said needs to be out in hte open.

Are we or are we not being restricted by the Glazers.

I am not excusing Rooneys behaviour. It fecking sucks. However, that said, the fact he's come out and laid the blame squarely at Gills door suggests to me that Gill isnt being 100% truthful either.

What really fecks me off though, is that in the summer, Real were sniffing. WHy didnt Rooney come out then and ask to go, when United could have commanded a far better price.

Two of the biggest ABU's on the planet, but even they are not buying Rooney's excuses. Everyone in football knows he is moving for money, he's proved to be a bigger mercenary than Tevez.

Who let you out of the asylum? People are either knowingly "buying" the crap Rooney's spouting just to get another one over on the Glazers or they're actually retarded, judging by some of the posts in this thread, you can't be sure which one it is. Though Fred definitely falls in the former's category.

That may not be Rooney's reason for leaving the club, but can you argue with the reasoning? When Nani or any other player from the current squad reach their peak they will make the same noises and leave eventually. The point is till the Glazers don't leave or sort out this debt, make a few key signings, we will have this problem. And every time a player leaves you cant slate them for being money grabbing whores, sometimes we need to remove those tinted glasses.

some cnut on 5 live completely lapping up his "statement"

"As long as he didn't go for the money..." they lad has sympathy for him... as long as he didn't go for the money, yeah...

So you know Smalling and bebe aren't going to become great players huh? Have you ever thought of being a scout?

He could've done if he wasn't intending to go to City.

Could have atleast tried to lie and then 'magically' end up at City because 'no one' wanted him. He's really taken this to another level. I hope Fergie gets the biggest applause and reception because he deserves it, I'm off to watch the game. Hope the crowd do us proud.
