That's what I said before... Imitating the best will close the gap, but it won't let you leap-frog them.
I'd be supprised if we learn of what was actually said, we have a big game on Sunday and i think the focus should be on that. SAF has imo said what he had to say, he really doesnt need to say anything more on the situation as it will become this huge back and forth between Rooney and SAF and the team will undoubtably suffer because of it.
Obviously money will be a factor in Rooney’s thinking, but there will also be some truth in what he says even if I don’t agree with him and think it is foolish.
There have been plenty of players in the past who have expressed their dissatisfaction of the squad they play in, and Rooney won’t be the last to do so. As Fergie said yesterday there was a United player who said that Rooney and Ronaldo weren’t yet good enough and that he was unwilling to wait until they were. Rooney is just as foolish as that player.
But he’s entitled to his opinion and responsible for his decisions; so I for one aren’t going to hate Rooney for doing what he thinks is right for him. Remember, Fergie would just as easily get rid of a player just as easy as Rooney said he wants to leave.

There will be a statement, that much is pretty certain. I doubt we'll find out what they spoke of in the meeting but some kind of decision will be made and statement released.
SAF's comments yesterday suggested to me the club is going to come out with a definite statement today to put the matter to rest. Not saying anything will only lead to more distractions before the Stoke game.
I think there has to be a public statement once they have informed Rooney of the decisions made. Otherwise Rooney's camp will come out will some pathetic sob story about being treated unfairly etc etc. There should be a state saying what the intention is (hopefully removed from first team training, although I also think that helps Rooney in that he doesn't have to face his team-mates, but ultimately team comes first).

Manchester United legend Harry Gregg has backed Sir Alex Ferguson to guide the Red Devils through this stormy period, telling Wayne Rooney, ‘no one is bigger than the club’.
United have been rocked by Rooney’s desire to leave with manager Ferguson feeling betrayed that his one-time golden boy is determined to leave Old Trafford.
On Tuesday, Ferguson told the world that he was dumbfounded by Rooney’s decision, adding, however, that a new contract offer was still on the table.
United may as well throw it in the bin now with Rooney making his own statement last night, confirming that he is intent on departing the Theatre of Dreams.
Northern Ireland goalkeeping great Harry Gregg has been watching developments with interest.
Never afraid to voice his opinion, he insists that life will go on at United with or without the England star.
And he is sure that Ferguson will handle the situation in the coming months, when speculation will be rife about Rooney's future.
“I’m certain that Sir Alex Ferguson will handle it well,” said Gregg.
“Let’s not forget, he saved an institution with what he did when he came in to United.
“He is the same inspirational figure that Sir Matt Busby was. As for those who came in between, least said, best mended.
“I’m confident in the manager — he’ll handle this in the way that’s best for Manchester United.”
Gregg, a survivor of the infamous Munich air disaster in 1958, has seen many a great player come and go at Old Trafford down the years.
According to Harry, Rooney will be just another to add to the list.
“There is one thing you can be certain about in all this and that is life will go on at Manchester United with or without Wayne Rooney,” said Gregg, who is approaching his 78th birthday.
“Myself and another eight players survived an accident many years ago and I remember people saying after that I would never leave United and that I would be there for life, but when my time came to go I did.
“I recall the best player I ever played with, Dennis Viollet, who was scoring lots of goals for United, and everyone being shocked when he left.
“Matt loved him, a bit like Sir Alex and Rooney, but Dennis stepped out of line and ended up at Stoke, where he had a great career. The fact here is that nobody is bigger than Manchester United. No one is bigger than the club. That applies to Wayne Rooney, just like everyone else.”
When asked for this thoughts on Rooney, in a reference to the striker’s dreadful form of late, Gregg shot back: “You are only as good as your last game.”
He continued: “When Wayne Rooney is at his best he is a throwback to one of the finest strikers ever, Everton legend Dixie Dean, who was up there with the greats, but I repeat, in football you are only as good as your last game.
“I really don’t know where he will end up. I’m wary of all the media hype and much of it right now in relation to who will sign him is down to suggestion rather than fact.”
One suggestion is that he will join those “noisy neighbours” Manchester City.
Another Northern Ireland great, Sammy McIlroy, knows all about playing for both sides of the Manchester divide.
McIlroy was a hero at Old Trafford playing almost 350 games between 1971 and 1982, and although he didn’t make the move directly, he played for City later in his career.
“Wayne thinks he's in a bit of a goldfish bowl at the moment, if he goes across the town it'll be even bigger,” said McIlroy.
“Carlos Tevez did it and has done very well, but for Wayne to go with the fans at United loving him, he could be in for a rough ride.”
The Morecambe boss added: “From what I hear United have offered him the best contract they've offered any player — but City can top that.
“United want him to stay and show a bit of loyalty. Lots of fans will probably be hoping he does change his mind and I think Sir Alex wants him to — but these days money talks.”

that's great.To be honest, the most depressing thought about all this is the idea that Wayne Rooney's statement might have had an element of honesty in it, and that he is genuinely some kind of massive transfer spastic who spends his free time browsing the redcafe transfer forum, becoming more and more angry that we haven't made a £50million bid for Ozil yet. Please god no.
On a slightly unrelated note, I think I'm falling in love with Patrice Evra. Summed up everything I think is even slightly important about all this perfectly, in just two sentences.
People who don't want to be part of the team, for whatever reason, aren't part of the team, and simply don't matter anymore.
Hard as it is to take, it's not so much the what. It's the how.

Well i think SAF coming out with his comments about Rooney in the first place was very unlike him, the response was always going to come, then he gives his final words on the matter and in my eyes looks like the hurt party coming out definant and fighting. I dont think he can come out and say "we are dumping him in the reserves" as that would lower his market value or will he come out and say "we've agreed to sell him" because Rooneys camp will come out with the whole he was willing to listen but United have closed the door...
I'd be supprised if SAF talks openly about the matter again. But we will just have to wait and see

A decent principled man, you will never say that about Rooney
That says a lot considering how much Ronaldo is getting paid, and will get paid in the future. If Rooney is making ridiculous demands, he's probably pricing himself out just so he can get to the one club that will pay him ridiculous wages.
If Rooney hates the Glaziers and wants to stay in Manchester in an ambitious side and has no interest in "the money" ... he should join FCUM!

I interviewed for two jobs at the same time once, one of which I didn't want. They were kind enough to have given me a description with salary range and when asked I priced myself out of that one. Always thought that was quite slick on my part.

rofl. That's not it AT ALL. I think everyone knows we've never gone after the outright best, but we've gone after who have a special talent that can be fully recognized at Man Utd. Valencia, Obertan, Smalling, Hernandez, Bebe are NOT these type of players.
We bought Keane, Cantona, Stam, Ruud, Veron, Rio, Ronaldo, Rooney.....all players when we were signing we knew we were getting something special, someone who can lead the lead the team in time, sure other players can step up, but no one we have signed post-Ronaldo is remotely the same as those players, good? Sure, some of them, potential to be better? Yes. Potential to be a true character for the team? Not really.
It's kinda like the Keane outburst, there are not enough characters in the team, when he said it, we had the two most talented teenagers in the world pretty much, this time, we don't.
Missing out on Bale AND Ramsey was awful for us, both of these two will be the best British players in their positions in 5 years, if not much sooner, yet instead of us, they chose.....Arsenal and Spurs.
But that's only part of the issue. What do we do with him until January? He won't play for us again, he shouldn't be training with the team either.

Because who knows how long his ability to command top wages will last and how long City's owners will be throwing around cash for. I can see why it was so urgent.

Nothing can be assured about a club's future, what if City fail to get into Champions League after failing the financial regulations?
With the exception of Rooney and Ronnie. All the players you have mentioned were older and more experienced than the current crop. That is why we knew their qualities. Just because these players have been purchased at earlier stages in their careers, doesn't mean they don't have the same potential. Did you read Fergies' very recent quote about potential?
