He might want to stay eventually (At the moment, given his wage demands and the needs of the potential suitors, I can't see anyone else but City trying to buy him, and I think that move would mark the beginning of the end of his career - they're going to implode one day in an inflation / mercenery shitbomb cloud), but I think he's finished here now and SAF won't take him.

He'd just be screwing himself over if he signed something despite wanting to leave. United wouldn't want to just say something, because that'd cost the club money from selling him with a year to go. He won't say or sign anything indicating that he wants to stay unless he genuinely does.

I'd be absolutly disgusted if that retch ends up getting a new contract out of all of this. I think you might be right in a sense. Rooney can't have seen the furore and intensity that the backlash is going to have on his legacy and him is a person.
