MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

The key part in that statement for me is this:

"I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future"

Now that, to me, insinuates weve made some sort of last offer to him and his advisor's are considering it, the point is weve been in meetings all afternoon and yet nothing? nah if he was just leaving wed have said so in the statement, somethings going on.

Yeah. Sadly it looks like we must have made some sort of offer to him. If we were just to put him up for sale or anything of that sort why would we need Rooney's representative over there

He'd better not get a new contract out of this, I want him gone. I don't really understand how Fergie would want him around teammates that he's essentially said weren't good enough, either.

Pretty sure he's gone, anyway, dealing with a player that wants out when he can't go anywhere for a couple of months isn't simple.

He's gonna stay now aint he?

feck me that'd be mental...I can just see it now. Rooney's suddenly seen what a shit storm this has caused. That the fans have turned on him, that the other managers are berating him, that he's fecked his legacy and image up...he's bricking it. He's going to come out grovelling, I can just see it!

if so, it'd be one of the most ridiculous things ever....

However, what could be happening is merely an attempt to get everyone back onside for the rest of the season ala Ronaldo. He maybe says something, or even signs something which allows us to get a really good deal for him at the end of the season and prevents the fans from going mental at him in the mean time.

He might want to stay eventually (At the moment, given his wage demands and the needs of the potential suitors, I can't see anyone else but City trying to buy him, and I think that move would mark the beginning of the end of his career - they're going to implode one day in an inflation / mercenery shitbomb cloud), but I think he's finished here now and SAF won't take him.

I think he will stay, if he does what are 99% of the forum supposed to do then? Support one player less then the rest? Do a u turn of their own? Say 'he's still a cnut but our cnut' or some other mindless babble? Decisions, decisions...

Part of me thinks we've offered a new contract to the gimp and his representatives are taking time to considering it.

Someone should make this into a movie with all these twists and turns.

I can't believe people believe this 'Sign a new contract to increase the fee' bullshit. Why on earth would Rooney do that? So he can go where he wants? Well he can do that anyway, all he has to do is threaten to sit out his contract unless he gets a move to X FC. Signing a new contract would just leave him subject to United's will, and increase his transfer fee, meaning he gets less money.

Ronaldo signed a new deal .Stayed another year. Suited him quite well I would say

Yep, that'd be the best scenario: he signs a friggin' bogus extension, leave at the end of this season and bring us another 80 million on his way out for rebuilding. Everybodys a winner.

It's probably that to be fair.

He'd just be screwing himself over if he signed something despite wanting to leave. United wouldn't want to just say something, because that'd cost the club money from selling him with a year to go. He won't say or sign anything indicating that he wants to stay unless he genuinely does.

Nah we'll do what we did in Ronaldo's last season. Support him. But not idolize him the way we did before.

In any case I doubt he'll stay so its a moot point.

I hope wat's going on is involving another club with a big big transfer money and I don't care what will happen to Shrek from now untill January.

I will change my location now, over.

if he stays i will neither cheer nor boo him, what he has done is be a cnut of the highest order and if he made the choice to stay he would have a lot of work to win people over again, however booing him would achieve nothing

Clear your PMs, Mocktard.

IF he stays, then I'll cheer if he scores, want him to do and play well for United. But I won't sing his name, nor cheer or boo him.

What a dramatic and entertaining month this has been for football. First the liverpool drama that went on days and now our very own Hollywood creation

I'd be absolutly disgusted if that retch ends up getting a new contract out of all of this. I think you might be right in a sense. Rooney can't have seen the furore and intensity that the backlash is going to have on his legacy and him is a person. Every man and his dog pretty much thinks Rooney is a greedy cnut now and i'm sure it must be affecting him ( thick skin or not )

I just CAN'T see him in a United shirt again though. It'd be too weird. How would he return back to OT after the shitstorm he's built up at the club ? What could he say ?

"errrr sorry aboot all that like, just a bit mental "

He's not only burnt the bridges, he's fecking nuked them. They can't be rebuilt again.

So will he/won't he leave in January odds have changed, very slightly, to go from 1/3 to 2/5, and to stay 6/1 to 7/4 now. While all the summer odds have shortened a fair bit, especially Chelsea, 8/1 to 4/1

I'll be disgusted if he gets a new contract after all this. Truely disgusted.

The sooner he's gone, the better. As far as i'm concerned.
I agree. He can feck right off. Don't want him anywhere near the club after his selfish act.

He's behaved like a right cnut, no doubt about it.

I'll support him as long as he's wearing the shirt though.

So what about all the abuse he got all week?

Support one player less then the rest? Do a u turn of their own? Say 'he's still a cnut but our cnut' or some other mindless babble?

So a bit of all them three no?

The day Manchester United Sir Alex ferguson and anything associated with this great club goes pandering to the likes of Wayne fecking Rooney is a sad day indeed, i sincerely hope all the meetings were simply ways to get rid of him with as minimal fuss as possible.

We dont need him, Roy Keane got it spot fecking on today, dont you worry about Manchester United theyll always be here with or without Rooney.

Including Boyhood club Everton, If he buggers off for less that 27 million the clause doesn't activated and they get nothing...I think

Don't think he's staying at all, I reckon the delay and talk of representatives and lawyers is focused on addressing the opposite outcome.

I'll be turning on one of our own.

I won't be cheering his goals, I know it'll make me a hypocrite if those goals result in wins for United. But I want nothing to do with him(for what it's worth...and I know that's not much, I've only been to OT 10 times in my life )

I'd love to win the league with Rooney, but I'd rather we finished mid-table than see him in a United shirt again.

If anything, it's probably not an extension, but simply a new contract to the end of 11/12, so that he can say until the summer but Man Utd don't have to lose big time with him doing the websters. I dunno, just throwing something out there, if there was another option or just a general agreement, it wouldn't take so long.

I think people are blowing the Webster thing all out of proportions, just because some parts of the media always bring that ruling out when there's a case of an unhappy player.

There's no way we'll bow to Wayne Rooney and give him a huge contract, even if the only intention is to sell him when we can. What sort of an example will we set to any of our players?

This.

Look at the way Gerrard and Torres have gotten so much bigger than Liverpool. Everytime something happens there's talks about the two of them as if they are more important.

I don't want the same thing about Rooney and Man Utd.

Let the cnut leave if he wants to.

What if he stays with United for life and scores in the FA cup final against Liverpool to win the game? 'Booooooooooooo........'

I agree. I think they are trying to discuss when/where and how Rooney should leave.

What did Roy say today?
