Spot on mate, could not of put it better myself. To see Sir Alex cave in to a player like this is a big worry for me...... It opens the doors for others to essentially hold the club to ransom and undermines Fergie's authority too in a way.

However I disagree that this proves that Rooney is bigger than this club. We're far too big a club for any player that has played this game, forget Rooney. While he's using us for a fat paycheck we're using him in the way we best think necessary. Either Fergie believes we need him on the pitch for the here and now, and/or that it puts us in a great negotiating position to sell him for a huge transfer fee. Either way Fergie's hand would not have been forced, he would have done what he felt was best for the football club.

But I do agree with the rest. I personally wanted him out. He's gotten away with murder. But it's Fergie, so in the end you simply have to trust the great man, no matter how wrong things sometimes feel.

Spot on, great post. I don't know how anyone can be happy about the current situation. Wayne Rooney, a 24-old-year Liverpudlian hold Manchester United, a club with a long tradition and huge reputation, to ransom. He basically said that our squad was rubbish and not able to compete with the biggest teams in the world. How can anyone defend him or approve of his behaviour? I don't understand it. It's a sad day for football in general, because it showed that footballers can get whatever they want and that throwing your toys out of the pram leads will be rewarded by a huge pay rise. I feel sorry for all the loyal players, who are great servants and feel blessed to play for United, yet don't have wages anywhere near Wayne Rooney's and don't get similar love from the fans.

We should players who appreciate what they've got at the club and work their socks off, not some spoilt child who was basically rubbish in the last few months and yet has the nerve to moan about our quality. Who does he think he is? Demanding talks with Gill and the Glazers about the future of the squad and the club? I mean WTF?

Others have already forgiven him or may forgive him in the future, but I know I won't. And this doesn't depend on goals or wins, as far as I am concerned he could bang in four goals against Liverpool or City, it won't change anything. Manchester United is bigger than a couple of goals or wins.

Part in bold is not entirely true, and I ask again, what massive pay rise is this or are you again making assumptions? Rooney was always going to get a pay rise.

In relation to the rest regarding player power to an extent I agree, and its cnuts like you and Man City we have to thank for all this in the beautiful game.

SAF needed Wayne more than Wayne needed United. Last year was a one man crusade. SAF rebuilding is still ongoing so he needed Wayne to produce for him whilst he plots a future without him.

I am pretty sure SAF needed the breathing space to develop a new team. SAF brought in Berba to change the dynamics post Ronaldo. I suspect Rooney will leave all that has now happened is United won't sell him cheap and SAF has more stability for his future plans.

Interesting post and whilst a bit strong I do agree with lots of it. Really did expect him to be a gonna after his antics. The thing is we have let go of El cunto and Ronaldo and not been any stronger for it so maybe its the right choice. I'm sure all will be forgotten in time.

If it was about money then obviously then the club could afford his wages so Rooney was right all along to stick to his guns. I think it's naieve to believe this has only happened to Rooney in the current squad, the difference with Rooney's is that is became public domain.

As for Holloway, he wasn't blaming Rooney, he was blaming the system. You can't blame Rooney for using the system to his advantage.

Anyway, if you think it has been a victory for Rooney then think again. He's done his reputation no good and he has to win back his team mates as well as the fans. I'm sure he'll be very much regretting his actions.

So lets put an end to it all and get back supporting team, hell they will need our support if we are to challenge Chelsea.
 
I must say I'm indifferent about his contract signing, I will never look at Rooney in the same way again and he will be the least liked player in the squad for me. My only concern is how the public will regard Manchester United from now on, I personally know that 'no player still isn't bigger than the club' in Fergie's mind, but we won't hear the end about that he actually is from others' point of view.
