Arsehole commentator kept saying Nani shouldn't be staying down. When the replay showed the contact, he actually praised Barry for the contact because he got the ball and catching Nani was deemed "bonus" .
I know... that commentator was one of the most biased ones that i have heard in a very long time.
I remember at the start of the match he even said something on the lines of how United fans arent not locals and only the City ones are.
Rewind the replay and watch Barry catch Nani's ankle all over again, I'd definitely be hurt if someone goes for my legs like that.
I'd stay down as that was not minimal contact for me, I'd reckon it bloody hurt and he did well to come back into the game for me.

That one did actually look painful. But he has only himself to blame for his reputation.
Problem now is that not just the United fans get pissed off, but also the refs wont give anything in his favour. Like last night when the City player clearly caught him but the ref just played on.
I thought he cut down on his antics last night. Got a painful-looking kick early on and didn't even go down. The Barry challenge would have put anyone on their arse.

Was he affected by the flu? On twitter Rio said that a few players were playing through illness. Maybe he was one of them. Looked very unlike him.

He was probably rushed back a game too early. But we couldn't expect Nani to beat 6 men and score. There wasn't enough players around him to be involved in the game and to Shittys credit, they double teamed him very quickly.
I was impressed with his attitude though, one of the few games that he didn't act like a fairy. Got fouled twice badly and nothing given.

I just wish he could beat the first man with a corner every now & then.

As everyone said...it just didn't happen for him tonight, injury plus City actually being pretty good collectively might have had something to do with that.

Does he not practice these in training? For someone blessed with so much talent and ability they are just so so so poor. He gets such lovely whip and zip into his crosses at times, yet his corners are always slow deliveries with a high arc...

I refuse to believe he can't put more height and power on his corners, if he wanted to.
There seemed to be a point to the 'first post'-corners at the start of the season, where the plan seemed to be to target O'Shea or Rio at the first post for them to nudge it on, but now we don't even have a man on the first post.
The corners must work in training for him to keep taking them and taking them that way. It's been going on for months now.
The corners are a mystery, but it's not just Nani who takes them like that. Gibson, Carrick, Giggs do as well, it must be some sort of odd tactic.
statistics show that more goals are scored in the second phase of play from a corner. ie after the ball has been cleared once. united have played on this for a long time by aiming for the first defender and it works-cheeck the stats. makes me smile when people criticise. its actually genius
Disagree with that. For all his sins, Gibson has consistently taken a decent corner. Carrick too.
Giggs is more hit and miss but when he gets them right they're perfect.
Nanis has also taken plenty of decent corners in his time, to be fair. Not for a long time though. Which is why our best corners have been when him and Evra work it short.
Yep. It's genius when the ball gets cleared to the halfway line and then we just lump it back into the box, or play it back to Nani who is offside.
I'm not saying it relation to how good they are at corners, more so that they seem to be getting instructed to keep them near post and low. I think Nani was just a bit poor at them last night, but in a lot of games, especially against bigger (taller) teams, we've been intentionally doing that.
Can't believe some fans are still blaming the corner takers, it's pretty fecking obvious that our tactic is near post corners.
Pinging the ball directly onto the head of the nearest defender is not a tactic I'm familiar with tbh.

Not sure about Carrick, but yes Gibson is probably the best corner taker in our first team squad (based on the few times he's actually taken them). It does my head in he normally doesn't take them.
Was not his best game, but boy you got to whip in better corners.

Why doesn't Scholes take corners for us these days? Sure in the past we've had some players with great accuracy but, would seem today from a dead ball that needs to be placed to a point - he'd be the man for it.

I think it's laziness which is a shame as hitting a decent corner kick isn't the hardest thing in football and if Nani wanted to (or SAF) then we'd see some drastic improvement.Maybe it's an area of the game where SAF feels there is no need to focus on
You probably picked the worst game to bring this up. The only time i recall him going down and staying down was when Barry followed through with his studs. I agree otherwise.
He wont do that a lot now I would imagine. Or at least he wont stay down too long. He saw the benefit with that 'ref said play on' goal against Spurs.
Even when on the field he almost never takes them. There was that Carling Cup match last season where he provided what was probably our most consistent corners since Becks, but otherwise it's one here and one there when about four other players are all off the field. So obviously I'm basing his corner taking ability on a small amount, but he's certainly looked a good bit better and more consistent than any one else.
Obertan has had very good corners when he has played. I can only remember him taking around 5 though. This is quite strange because in open play his crossing is weak.
Not a lot wrong with Obertan's crosses. When he bothers to put them in.
