Anderson

Anderson never gives his midfield partners or defenders an option for a short pass.
Why is this?

Running with the ball and making Hollywood passes looks nice but he fails to do some very basic midfield work. His stamina is also very poor.
His second goal in 4 years does not really make up for this.

I'm taking this to mean you didn't watch the match.

That's 3 matches in a row now where he's been one of our best players.

Very similar to the beginning of Nani's turn-around a year ago.

It looks like the shackles have come off Ando. He's always been taking chances with his passing but now he's also taking chances with his runs and staying forward. The "Hasn't improved since he got here" soon won't hold much water if he keeps playing like this.

Word. Exciting times.

He was very good for 65 minutes and then nearly cost us the game in the last 25 due to completely running out of gas. If he ever sorts that out then he'll become a good player for us but I have my doubts.

Sorry if it appears i'm arguing Andersons case too much tonight but again i'm not sure I understand this.

If he ever sorts out his fitness? Fitness is the one aspect of a players game that they can always improve on, natural talent and ability can't be taught and simply can't be worked on to get to the very top level of the game.

I'm not sure how your doubts on a player can simply be based on their ability to last a game!?

He was Super today... Hope he does the same against Arsenal and Chelsea..
The pace and the acceleration was something else...
How the hell did Berba feck off that 1-1.. that would have been some goal.

He's got a point. Anderson failed to do a lot of basic midfield work, particularly in the last 30 minutes of the match.

A few of his passes went astray went clearing from our area (one of which happened because Park fell on his arse) but other than that he was still doing a solid job, frequently out-muscling them on the turn and bringing it forward again. He tired, yes, but he's still coming back from a serious knee injury. Even forgetting that injury, his last few performances have been fantastic.

On the subject of him tiring actually - did he get subbed against either of Blackburn or West Ham?

 @ johnmufc

When he scored I started asking myself if we've seen him arrive, much like Nani, as Top pointed out, did last season.

Some of the passing he's produced in the past two home matches has been exquisite... I didn't see the Hammers game, unfortunately, but he got away with a bit of credit, unlike the rest, according to Fergie... Assists and now a goal that sorted out the top spot for us, as well as his surging runs with the ball.

That one pass to Nani for a goal against Blackburn was the best through pass I've seen all season, methinks.

Excited as shit... I hope this isn't a false start.

Yes, if he ever sorts out his fitness. He's into his fourth year with us and there's been no improvement. Hence why I have some doubts about his ability (desire?) to sort it out.

This might sound a bit stupid, but I think Anderson has a chubby face and neck, not to say wobbly for his age, which kind of gives a false impression of the rest of him.

Which I suspect is rock-hard. Just a thought.

This was his third game on the bounce where he played the full 90 minutes and he's come back from a long injury lay off. He's just put in a man of the match performance but some twonks on here can't stop themselves from looking for negatives. Questioning his desire? Please.

But in fairness he's not had a prolonged run in the team over those 4 years, there's always seemingly been an injury problem that has affected his ability to string a run of games together. Some player will need that gametime to enable them to reach match fitness and it's match fitness that is the problem that people are picking up on. It's all well and good doing all the training through the week but when it comes to playing a full on high intensity game it's different and you get better with game time. I fully expect that should he stay injury free and his form stays good then he'll get a run of games and this fitness issue will become less apparent or non apparent.

No, but he was a liability defensively against West Ham. Let's be honest, Blackburn didn't show up in midfield. He's linked play very well in the last few games but it's off the ball where he's just not good enough. You'll pay for it at the highest level, and we nearly did for 15-20 minutes after his equaliser tonight, just like we did in Rome.

Blaming what happened in Rome on Anderson

Yes, I'm questioning his desire to improve his fitness in training. I think that's a fair accusation to make based on what we've seen of him so far. If he just has naturally poor stamina then it's a serious problem.

So 30 minutes is now 15-20 minutes? Just keep back tracking to the point where you admit he had a stormer.

Great performance tonight. Did tire but he's barely played any games in 6 months. If anyone is gonna snipe at him over allegedly not improving his match fitness from previous seasons, let's wait until he's... I dunno... match fit?

If you think anyone at Manchester United would be allowed to get away with an attitude like that then you are extraordinarily naive. There is no issue with his desire, his match fitness will improve as he gets more of those thingies, erm, matches, that's it.

No, because Fergie changed it to a 4-5-1 for the last ten minutes by shifting Park inside and putting Rooney on the left which helped a lot. For the 15-20 minute period before that, Valencia were cutting through us with ridiculous ease and Anderson was nowhere to be seen.

I'm a big fan of his and I reckon he's starting to turn the corner now. He looks hungry again.

I'm glad our manager isn't as impatient as some of the muppets on here and among United supporters in general. When will they learn that young player's need time and dips in form are a natural occurence which can help more than hinder a young player's future career and ability to harness his talent? We've seen Anderson written off, Nani written off a year ago, and now Evans is copping the flak...Nani and now Anderson are showing what a bit of faith and a bit of patience can do. No youngster, no matter how promising can fulfill his potential straight off the bat.

Why does it have to be ''sniping''? The fitness issue is why his future with the club has been in doubt. It's perfectly fair to bring it up in this thread because it's precisely what's holding him back from becoming a good midfielder.

Excellent game again from Anderson!

Has shown glimpses of this type of form in the past but not very consistently. Mostly due to injuries maybe?

Has now done it 3 games in a row and its very encouraging for the rest of the season!

Nice goal too! lol

Spot on. The defensive side of his game is very lazy. Maybe he is just unfit? Maybe he really is a natural attacking player?

He has a long way to go in any case.

He needs to do the simple things better. This is what he is poor at.

Exactly!

People going on about his fitness levels

Considering he hasnt strung three good games together since 2007-8, I am extremely fecking excited by his turnaround, hopefully it keeps going. One thing I admire about Anderson is that he looks like he is having fun when he plays the game, and that is what it is all about.
