RAWK goes into Meltdown 2010/2011

Some of you may already be aware of a post made by a RAWK user yesterday which sickeningly likened Roy Hodgson to Hillsborough. There were two attempts to make this post, both were removed immediately by the site staff and the user was banned from the site indefinitely. Despite this screenshots of the offending post soon started appearing all over other fansites, Facebook and Twitter with accompanying opprobrium. The user involved being traced and having his home address details published along with various threats.


The user has protested his innocence and as a result we have spent a considerable amount of time looking into what happened. We are continuing to investigate but it appears that the offending post put on RAWK in very suspicious circumstances, from IP addresses not normally associated with this users account, these IP addresses have been logged. It seems probable that the user has had his personal details breached by a third party and these were then used by the same third party to make the posts on here.


The post was removed within minutes of it appearing online on RAWK. The opportunity to get a screen grab of the piece was extremely limited, and it's rapid dispersal through Twitter is both disappointing and unusual. As investigations stand the earliest posting of the screenshots are within an hour of the event taking place when they were posted on Red Cafe at 3.30pm yesterday. The RAWK moderators are taking this issue very seriously and are working with the user to assist him in his attempts to find out how his account was breached. Given the level of personal abuse and threats that this individual has received, the site will also comply with any requests from the police regarding this issue.


For the sake of the user himself and in order to try and protect all the good work done by members of the various Hillsborough campaign groups we would urge that if you see the 'Hillsborough' smear being repeated on Twitter or any other media please forward this message to the offending site or individual.


There is further discussion on this here. We would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has found references to the screenshots or the posts from earlier than 3.30pm yesterday.

It's abit over the line, we know how sensitive hillsbrough to anyone, but posting the la's real life address and personal threats??? some guys are taking internets too serious.

People say abusive, racist, personal abuse everyday, but to start getting personal and physical with it is seriously demented and way over the line IMO.

It's just internet for crying out loud.

An update.

A similar post has just been made supposedly by user Rob K. The post was made from the same IP as yesterdays post. The site is being hacked in an organised attempt by MUFC fans to try and smear Liverpool fans about Hillsborough. The perpetrators of said posts are immediately posting the screenshots on MUFC sites and sermonising about the morals of Liverpool fans.

I guess that is how some people get their kicks.

The point was that it's an entirely ridiculous accusation that United fans have made a concerted effort to hack/raid RAWK. They're clearly delusional, see posts regarding Rafa. It could have been one person who hacked the guy's account, but there's no mass raid.

Oh right, well of course you're right about that. But then we're dealing with people who have sent letters to the New York Times and Washington Post demanding they investigate the vast pro-United conspiracy in English football. They see conspiracies everywhere.
 
Seriously guys, i know it's sensitive but it's the internet, things like this should just fall under a "stupid thread" category and deleted + ban will be suffice.

If they make a big fuss out of this than every wummer on earth will be tempted to raise ruckus there and they'll be forced to go down faster than flies.

They need to supply an admin here with the supposed IP address that posted that shite so it can be cross referenced with those that post here, if they want to point fingers then at least make a case instead of just assuming.

It's a baseless accusation, the IP is the lad's. he only claims that his details has been compromised, a.k.a somebody posted using his username / password.

Could have been anyone honestly, could have been him posting from friends' house, could have been his fellow prick friend playing stupid jokes, the possibilities is endless, not to mention some tech savvy dude can easily hide his IP address, internet sharing, etc.

Best is to just delete it and try to attract less attention as possible. Seriously, imo blowing this up will only attract more morons

You're probably right, just don't like seeing them blaming everyone but themselves. It is par for the course with the club and its fans it seems.
 
The mod who had made the announcement has concluded that it's an attack by MUFC fans lol, what a dick head.

If they make a big fuss out of their posts appearing here, they should take a long hard look at themselves for invading forzainterforums to defend Fat spanish waiter when he was destroying Inter.
 
I saw the post and copied it onto here because it seemed in the spirit of the thread - ie. posting spastic crap from RAWK's many meltdowns. If anyone checks the IP of the original post from RAWK against any I've ever posted from they'll find they're different. Hacking someone's account isn't something I've ever done, ever would do, or would be capable of.

Saying that I'd prefer that my IP wasn't sent to anyone from RAWK, given what happened to the last fella.

Also, can someone please remind RAWK that the Internet is SERIOUS BUSINESS? I think they forgot... It's a classless thing to post, but they're treating it as though it's the worst thing ever to happen on the internet.
 
Apparently, investigations are still going on.

RAWK mods seem to think more than one account has been hacked with the 'forgot password' feature, that they are disabling right now. There has been a fair few people claiming 'Cafe Rouge' and 'Manc scum'. It may well be a hijacked account. If yes, that's fecking sick, and there's still no mention of who released the poster in question's contact details. I hope they get to the bottom of the issue and find who the hacker is, if there was any.

I can't believe they are dissing us, when everyone in this site have only highlighted how sick the comparison was. It's better to ignore this crap, at least till those nutters find out what actually happened. So far, their only suspicion seems to be the fact that the post was screen printed and posted on twitter.
 
I didn't read it properly, it's very clear to see through the reaction in this very thread where the post was made, how we thought about it. No-one, not a single member made any attempt to credit or encourage the nature of that post. Whether it was a member or not is one thing, but if you are going to tar the whole forum, at least do it in the correct manner, because there has yet to be any support for that post.

They have a thread for follow up on that issue, and they have made a post saying 'they'll be open to discuss with other mods, and anyone can email them'. I don't know why they couldn't email our mods if they wanted to clear things first, before they made the allegation.

It's a sensitive matter and all, but this is unacceptable.
 
I think this just proves that there are some people on this forum who like hitting the F5 button on RAWK. Possibly not the healthiest activity in the world...

Also, I'm fairly confident the Caf wouldn't disclose personal information to RAWK. That would surely go against the Data Protection Act. A court order requires mandatory disclosure (although I'm not sure what should happen if the police ask - as far as I know, only a court order is binding).

I am not a lawyer, of course. Just a geek...
