Luka Modric

It's been explained to you why Modric wasn't played in CM at OT - all for solid reasons revolving around the decision to play Ekotto at RB ... reasons which you refused to accept.

But eventually you resorted to to saying: "Let's wait and see what team 'Arry picks at the weekend, eh? ... I wouldn't be surprised at all if he decides to continue to play Modric in the position in which he's preferred to play him for most of the season, irrespective of injuries/suspensions/shit full-backs etc. Out on the left wing."

Well, the game has come and gone, and guess what ... Modric was played in CM.

Yeah, Harry dropped Palacios (presumably because he was utter wank against us at OT) and gave Modric a crack in the centre again. This involved playing Kaboul back at right back, despite the fact you 'tards assured me a reluctance to do this was the only reason he played Bale at LB and Modric at LW against United.

And look what happened. A nervy one nil, at home, against Bolton. I also note that you came fecking close to dropping points when Jack Wilshere strolled 40 metres through the heart of your midfield un-challenged and put Elmander through on goal. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Modric back on the left wing again next week, with Palacios returning to add some steel in the centre. If he does do this, it will be despite your best player yesterday being Gareth Bale; further exploding the myth that Modric is only played on the left-wing because Spurs have no other options.

Against City away. He will do this. But it is not because he doesn't trust Modric in the middle, it is because it is a tough game.

So you take your supposedly best player out of the middle and stick him out on the wing?

'Out on the wing' is actually still an effective position for Modric. People tend to use this against him, but he is versatile.

Just like Fergie took Rooney and stuck him out of the wing at Barca. Modric is an attacking player, against City, you may need more protection than just Huddlestone. Modric, if in the middle, which is unlikely, would not offer as much as protection as Palacios. I would play him in the middle, simply because City play two holding midfielders, but I think Harry will go for the same formation he used against us. But he may change, and take a slight gamble with Modric. He has great options. Even a 4-3-3, would be great with Huddlestone, Palacios and Modric.

Or maybe we haven't tried.

The Club is delighted to announce that Luka Modric has signed a new six-year contract which runs until 2016.

Speaking about his new contract and future ambitions, Luka said, "Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season's Top 4 finish was an indication of where we are as a Club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."

The Croatia midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane from Dinamo Zagreb in July, 2008 on the back of a starring role with his country in the European Championships and having played a big part in Dinamo's three successive league title triumphs.

The 24-year-old playmaker has gone on to establish himself as a key player in Harry Redknapp's side with impressive displays on the left flank and in central midfield, clocking up a total of 77 appearances in our colours and scoring eight times including a memorable winner against Chelsea at the Lane in March 2009.

City and Chelsea more than likely. If we did bid then he turned us down as well and didn't want to come here.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson would love to sign his star midfielder Luka Modric.

Spurs and Modric entertain United today at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp revealed: “I am lucky I have the likes of Luka Modric here.

“He is fantastic and *unbelievable to manage. He just loves playing football.

“He works hard every day and you don’t have to worry about him. They have a great *player, too, in Rooney when he is back to his best – but Modric is top-drawer.

“Sir Alex would love him but he isn’t going anywhere. We want to keep him here and build a team round Luka.

“He has played in that central *position for 15 months or so. He has everything. He could play in any team in the world but we want him here.

“This game has all the makings of a great one. Both teams try to make *openings. We will go for it, for sure.

“On paper it looks as if it will be a great game for everybody.”

We have one great player? Cheers Harry.

Reckon it'll matter more where Modric wants to be if United come in for him this summer.

He completely ran the midfield, and the woeful Carrick and Fletcher couldn't cope with him at all.

I have been saying it since the summer of 2009. Modric must be signed.
I made a thread on it before I was promoted.

He completely ran the midfield, and the woeful Carrick and Fletcher couldn't cope with him at all.

Carrick was excellent defensively. As usual.

What an odd thing to say, as Carrick didn't really go up against Modric at all, and had a good game defensively.

Modric was terrific in the first half, ran the show and troubled Fletcher throughout. Second half I thought he faded though.

Modric would is exactly the kind of player we'll need when Scholes finally retires.

There is however 0 chance of us getting him anytime soon.

I'm surprised with the level of praise Modric's receiving considering Spurs had effectively an extra player in the centre of midfield.

As for Modric... meh... nothing special. Will probably develop into one of the better midfielders in the league, nowhere near the best. The likes of Palacios, Arteta and Barry are all much better than him and that's without even getting into midfielders at the "big four"

This.

Talking seriously, I actually did not think Modric was that great today, but he is still a player I was so desperate for us to sign. I don't think it will happen now.

I thought Modric's running with the ball was fantastic, but his passing didnt threaten much. In fact it reminded me of Anderson on a good day, driving at the defence and being a threat but not managing the killer pass.

You won't find many passing through the likes of Rio and Vidic when they're on that kind of form, best centre half pairing in world football.

You must be loving this.
