Luka Modric

Modric is certainly better than any of the mid-fielders we have currently baring Scholes probably who is too old now and won't long last.

How ever there is no chance we can sign Modric. He will cost 35 mil pounds for sure.

Bizarre comment.

Even if Barca ever agreed to sell then Xavi would demand 50m +, same for Iniesta. Arsenal said no to 35 for Fabregas.

How much do you think Modric's transfer value is?

I would say 25m, but given hes at Spurs, it will be nearer to 40m.

Eh? The best wouldn't even be sold from their club, if they were then their transfer value would be far higher than Modric's. Can you imagine Xavi and Iniesta's prices?

Well, the best outside of the best, the most obvious being Fabregas, I bet "when" he is sold he will go for a similar fee to Modric, "if" he is sold as well.

I can't believe some still aren't convinced by this lad.

He's a good player but his 1 goal and 2 assists in 19 EPL appearances doesn't convince me he's worth £30M +.

Stats don't always tell the whole picture and making decisions based on them would be incredibly naive.

Didn't say he wasn't a good player indeed he would undoubtedly improve our midfield in terms of ball retention but I just think you want a bit more if you're paying that sort of money.

Not much of a goal scorer is he.

Nor is it that important. We have plenty or players in our side capebale of scoring goals. What we're lacking is genuine quality in midfield to help us retain the ball whilst being positive with their passing. Modric fits the bill perfectly. My only doubt about him was that I didn't know how he'd cope in a 2 man midfield but this season he's proved he can be fabulous there too.

He really is outstanding and if we are to sign a central midfield player then I hope it's him.

To be honest, he is exactly the kind of player we need. Someone who can run the game. We're leaving it to players who aren't very good at this these days.

Agree with that, but he'd cost a fortune so I just can't see it happening given SAFs transfer policy in recent years. I can see him going with someone younger like Defour instead.

I like Defour but just not quite sure he's good enough. I think we'll get the opportunity to see, and hopefully he will be the player we need. He's a pretty similar player to Carrick though, would be interesting to see how it would all work.

There just aren't that many good available midfielders around at the moment, I suppose we'll have to end up paying over the odds for one of them. Suppose the last five top quality midfielders to come on the market have have Modric, Essien, Alonso, Yaya and Milner and aside from Modric the other four have gone for £25 million plus.

He's a quality player. He's yet to develop into a real matchwinner though in the way that Fabregas has.

Milner?!? Hell no.

:lol::lol: spot the odd one out, funny Fiskey, made me chuckle.

Modric being so blatantly in their category ehh.

You don't think he operates in a similar way?

I'm not saying they're identical but they certainly have similarities.

Modric would play in the centre alongside Carrick. Carrick being the "defensive" midfield player. Alonso has Khedira. Xavi has Biscuits.

You do realises one is a striker and the other is a midfielder, and you missed the 40m bit, but nvm...

Thanks for ensuring I knew where each played. And I saw the 40M bit but you are referencing that the bump is in relation to him being a Spurs player - I'm saying Bent is not world class and can command a 24M transfer so a talent like Modric who I do think is a world class talent at 25M would be a steal - whether he plays for Spurs, QPR or a pub team.

Different circumstance, Fabregas would be going back to the club he came from, there would be no rival offers because everyone knows where Fabregas wants to go to.

Give me another example.

He was overpriced but he's still a very good player.

He's not top 4 material, no way. City will kick him aside just like SWP and Adebayor after more spending in the Summer.

Fergie would need to have real faith in a lad who's playing in a very average league and who has suffered a horrendous injury in the last couple of years to chose him over Modric, who has frankly been impeccable this season, as well as being exactly the sort of player we lack without Scholes in the side.

That assumes that Modric was willing to come to United and Spurs were willing to sell of course.

That's pretty much similar to Ronaldo going to Real, we all knew it was going to happen, still didn't stop us getting a world record fee.

I think there is a misconception about my feeling towards Modric, I do rate him, i just don't see him as a player as it been put, "to break the bank for". I had the same feelings about Bebatov, but lets not get into that.

It's not like Ronaldo came out of the Madrid academy though, there will obviously be a far different fee.

What does that matter, they both have/had their heart set on a particular team. Is there something in Fabreags contract that mean he will go for a certain fee, because he came from their academy?

Just had his appendix removed.

The Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric will be out for around two weeks after having his appendix removed. The Croatia international, who underwent surgery last night, could miss the Champions League last-16 first leg at Milan on 15 February.

I would have thought being back in two weeks was bullshit last year but the baseball team I follow lost a player due to appendix removal last season in the final month of the season. Looked like a huge blow but he was back playing in 16 days and they went on to win the championship. He was a key player.
