Luka Modric

He was superb. Dominated us more than Fabregas ever does. He was everything we lack in midfield and I think he's twice the player VDV is.

hmm, still dont get the hype, hes a good player but hes no where near the Fabregas's, Iniesta etc, nor see him reaching there in the future.

I'll hold my hands up, I didn't think Modric could cut it in midfield at this level. He quite clearly can.

Erm, who could we possibly get that is?

You won't find many passing through the likes of Rio and Vidic when they're on that kind of form, best centre half pairing in world football.

You dont have to. He could pass between Rafael and Ferdinand or any other combination of players around the edge of the box. While his dribbling caused lots of problems, he didnt show the vision on the day to open us up.

That's nonsense. Our back four is as good as they come in world football. Messi did feck all against us when our back four was at it's best, and that too over two legs. Fabregas pretty much never does anything against us. Modric did better than the latter ever does against us.

As a general point about Modric, when I was first saw him I thought he was set to be a world beater, then I was slightly disappointed with his progress at Spurs but now he's the absolute heartbeat of that team. Still can get better IMO and would love to have him at Unitedf.

Maybe if being a scout was my day job i could tell you, but the gap between Modric and the best midfielders is vast, IMO. And if we were to get Modric it going to cost in excess of 30m and im sure there are similar cheaper options.

Don't know what's the fuss over him. He's pretty average for the hype and the fact he plays for Spurs
This guy will never be average. No way Modric is average. He pisses all over Van Der Vaart for one.

Such as?

You haven't named a single player we could get instead of him for cheaper than him.

Our midfield is probably the weakest of all the major PL and CL teams.

We are desperate for some quality in the centre of the park and will get found out in the CL without it.

Btw, how often has Fabregas actually turned up against us? We just get in his face and he crawls into his little cage. Modric was superb today and stood up to our gritty midfield very very well.

I remember him once playing a good through ball to Adebayor for him to score against us, but nothing more than that.

What do you want, for me to give a list of players with theoretical prices for you to cast your eye over?

As someone pointed out Modric is of the Aertea's of this world, probably slightly better but not by much.

Arteta

He's better than anyone we have centrally so cant be that bad.

To be fair I'm not often a transfer muppet, but... I'd break the bank for Modric.

He's the closest thing that we could get to Iniesta, Xavi or Fabregas. He impressed me big time yesterday. For those saying "he didn't open us up", nor did Xavi or Iniesta the year we won the CL, I can't remember the last time Fabregas did either.

Class player, he doesn't run, he walks on water

He's a great player - a little dynamo in the midfield buzzing around with boundless energy. Great footballing brain too - in 3 or 4 years he could be one of the best in the world. Another Spurs player I'd like to see at United.

Agreed.

Modric (77 attempted passes, 64 successful, 5 interceptions, 3 tackles).

I thought he was immense yesterday, he's always in my opinion been a pretty top notch talent and he is a potentially world-class midfielder if he isn't one already. With the right side he could be just as influential as the likes of Iniesta/Fabregas at the highest level.

Blessed with quick feet, fabulous vision, low centre of gravity and flawless technique… one can only imagine what an addition he’d be to the United midfield. Even the question marks that were once asked of him physically have been answered over the past few seasons and a great illustration of this point was found today when he shrugged Fletcher aside having turned on a sixpence and eat up ground before deceptively playing in a wideplayer in space. He is a creative dynamo and such a presence is sorely lacking in United’s midfield when Anderson is off form or Scholes is injured.

Arteta

Yup, not much better then Arteta when Everton were flying high in the top 4 a few years back.

I never said he is bad, i just think people over hype him, and given that he'll be costing more then Berbatov you would expect him to be better then Anderson and a 36 year old Paul Scholes(although on his day hes still better).

.

Thing is, we'd REALLY have to break the bank on him. He cost spurs £18.75m and he has 3 1/2 years on his contract. £40m wouldn't be too far off the mark

I don't understand how he's been over hyped, if anything he's been under hyped considering VDV and Bale have been in the spotlight, despite Modric being the man running things in the Spurs midfield.

Technically he's probably at a similar level to Arteta (who was a very good little player before the injuries which have curtailed him the last couple of seasons). But he's a far superior athlete and a much harder worker, which makes him a far more effective player who can hurt opposition teams in many different ways.

He cost 16.5m and his contract runs for another 5 and half years: he signed a six year contract last summer.

I am not saying hes shit, am i? I just dont think hes up there with the best which his transfer value would suggest if he were to be sold.

Eh? The best wouldn't even be sold from their club, if they were then their transfer value would be far higher than Modric's. Can you imagine Xavi and Iniesta's prices?

He's so much better than Arteta ever was it's not even funny. He's better than anyone in the Spurs midfield too, including VDV.

Bizarre comment.

Even if Barca ever agreed to sell then Xavi would demand 50m +, same for Iniesta. Arsenal said no to 35 for Fabregas.

How much do you think Modric's transfer value is?

So today I've learned on the caf that Modric is like Arteta and Rooney like Kuyt
