i know it's liverpool and i know they are selling torres. and i know andy carroll should not be worth 35.
but, carroll and suarez are good signings. torres is a great player, but he was not helping them much, recently. so him leaving does not mean that liverpool will go further down. i do agree with the obvious, that is, losing torres is a huge loss for them on paper.huge.
if we can ignore the prices, carroll and suarez are good signings. especially cause they are not really challenging for the title. this should help them challenge for the 4th and 5th spot(most probably from next season). and maybe start looking up and build again.
carroll, suarez, gerrard, mereiles, reina. let's not write them off for good. i know no one's doing that. but well if some of the scousers feel positive about these events, we should give them a break.
i do rate carroll, highly, but ya not worth 35.

Yeah what they - along with Adams - say as transfers is, we're now a club fighting for a Europa spot. In themselves, ignoring the silly money, they're good players. But they're not players any of the top 4 clubs were interested in. Maybe Spurs had a look at Carroll.

The only Liverpool players currently proven to be good enough for United are now Reina and Gerrard.

It's a long way back for the dippers. Not only have at least two of the top 5 got to fall off, but they've got to improve to the point they can get a lot of better players in.

If the Premier League was the only league you could get on telly and you only started watching football this season then Adam and Carroll are two of players you'd most likely try to sign.

You might even spend the guts of 50 million quid on them.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

To be fair nobody in Liverpool owns a telly. Well not their own anyway

i know. but 'pool have only been going down. some stability and consistency is going to be useful. plus i think the players i mentioned above, none of them are players who would be out of place, at any of the top four teams.

I am pretty sure all of the top four have been linked with Suarez.

Last season.

Suarez is a good signing, imo. I can't stop laughing about the amount of money spent on Andy Carrol though.

Same here. I liked what I saw at the World Cup and nothing has changed my mind since. I think he'll be a good player for Pool.

I would hazard a guess that a lot of tattoos are being regretted by a lot of people around about now.

For as great as Torres was, we have won NOTHING with him in our team.

A new era is here, best of luck Fernando. Enjoy the plastic flags, the mercenaries, lack of tradition and scumbag players.

We will always have the Kop, the red shirt and most of all....our 5 European cups

Scumbag players, lack of tradition indeed, you can't make it up

feck sake is that all Liverpool fans live off now , its getting very boring and old

Scumbag players? They have just signed the cannibal of Amsterdam, their captain is Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll allegedly punches women. They have more than enough to be going on with.

I wonder if the Greeks mock New York because they don't have the history of Athens?

The Greeks mock pretty much everyone for not having the history of Athens. It's what gets them through the night, that and retsina and not paying any taxes.

The Greeks don't have the history of Athens...The modern day Mediterranean Greeks aren't really related to the Macedonian Greeks of history. Someone should really tell them.

 the ancient Athenians weren't Macedonian... they did eventually get conquered by Macedonians, for a couple of centuries on and off until the Romans arrived. Then later they got invaded like the rest of Europe by various Germanic and Slavic tribes, and then much later they got conquered (but not displaced) by the Turks. You're certainly right that they're not some ethnically pure Athenian race but I think they can claim cultural and linguistic and at least a chunk of ethnic descent.

Some real wankers over at Caferouge trying to brainwash themselves and feel a little bit inportant with shit like this ....

"If we are interested it's probably just to drive the price up for Liverpool.
Watch him go for £15m and with that all the Torres money is pissed away on two players they could have bought for a combined £2m not much more than a year ago."

From some dickhead called Kraftwerker.

If only they'd been even given a chance to piss away the £80m they got for Ronaldo.
At least we're getting players to show for our sale. Their £80m went straight down the shitter! ;D

£600Million in debt you clowns!

Poor Krafty :p

£600Million in debt you clowns!

Love that that's the best they can hit us with. That they eventually came so close to bankruptcy that their cnut owners (who they welcomed with open arms) had to feck off, whereas, due to our success on the pitch (which is due to our legendary manager) ours haven't.

And still, even with feck all money, we're about 20 points ahead of them in the league!

They should support City or Chelsea - they combine having rich sugar-daddies pumping un-earnt money into the club for vastly over-priced players with holding a top 4 place... the best of both worlds!

So within hours Liverpool will have spent something like 100 million quid more than us in the premier league era. Something like 80m net.

Pretty good at this "buying titles" lark aren't we?

August 3rd 2010: “This is the best club in the country so the targets and expectations are always high. I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my team-mates. My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I felt at home from the first day, I feel the fans love me and everyone knows I am really happy here and really happy to play at Anfield.”

5 months later, Fernando Torres hands in a transfer request and is in talks to join Chelsea.

October 8th 2010: “All I have ever wanted to do is play for Newcastle. That’s been the case since I was a teenager, playing for the juniors and deserves, and it’s still the same now. Every time I pull on the black and white shirt – and even more so now that I have number nine on my back – it means the world to me so to be able to do that for at least the next five years is brilliant.”

3 months later, Andy Carroll hands in a transfer request and is in talks to join Liverpool.

Hope Suarez doesn't waste too much of his career at liverpool

It's a worry for the lad... Torres has wasted crucial years form 23 to 26. Suarez just turned 24 last week, and may well also have to wait until he's 26 or more to escape. If he gets stuck there for a couple more years than that, that's the best years of his career slipping away.

I'd say financial considerations trump on field success.

I doubt Torres or Carroll would have moved had they not been getting a bigger pay packets.
