Manchester United v Manchester City

No doubt someone will soon come up with the "O'Shea is better than Rafael defensively" stuff but with 4-5-1 I'd like our defender to be able to attack as well as defend. Besides, Rafael does the defending too.

Look at the midfield ... fairly able to attack.

You're in as good a mood as ever I see.

Didn't you spend 2 weeks arguing you didn't want to see Berbatov move to United at the time of his transfer?

The manager has picked the players he trusts most - Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Fletcher.

Berbatov's been brilliant this season. He should be in the team.

Rooney, and even more so Fletcher have been awful.

I'm sure people won't dislike having 3 strikers on the bench if we're in need of a goal

Great subs bench: Lindegaard Brown Owen Berba Hernandez Carrick Rafa

Lots of options. I'm happy with the team actually - very strong starting 11 with enough different options/experience to make a difference at various stages of what's bound to be an epic game.

When you consider the thought that gets put into choosing United's team/formation, it's amazing how flippantly posters on here dismiss the line ups when they're announced.

Really? Having 3 strikers on there is pointless considering if one of our wide players get injured our entire game plan is fecked.

Who else would you have on the bench instead ? Obertan hasn't exactly sparked any contention for wing places, and Park and Valencia are both injured.

3 strikers on the bench
whats the fecking point

Obviously not every one of those will be used, but depending on different scenarios you'd be happy with options. Every one of those brings something different and I understand SAF's decision completely.

A bit baffled to the exclusion of Carrick, one of the most important pieces in the 4-5-1 setup.

Disappointed not to see Berbatov and Rafael on the bench and Park not in it but glad to see Anderson over Carrick.

Yep I know its the best we could put out but its not the strongest we've seen all season like you said.

Sky Sports - 'The biggest Manchester Derby ever'

Are they going to say this everytime we play from now on?

Well yes, but can a team really afford that luxury?

He's the only holding midfilder we have. 4-5-1 is the perfect set up for Carrick.

Why do we need a holding midfielder at home with 3 bodies in central midfield? We don't. Scholes sits, Fletch will run about him and Anderson will drive. In a 442 i'd pick Carrick ahead of all our other midfielders. In a 451 I'd pick the same as Fergie.

I don't mind oshea in, regardless of whether rafael is injured or not - that side of the defence will need an experienced head with Smalling playing etc

Judging by the formation alone, this is going to be a pretty slow game with regards to going forward until somebody manages to provide Rooney with balls into the box.

Rubbish ... didn't O'Shea give Nani an assist in the Blackburn game?

He might occasionally have something good to offer offensively, not saying he doesn't but he's not even close to Rafael.
