Manchester United v Crawley Town

I'm expecting something like:

Lindegaard
Rafael Brown Smalling O'Shea
Obertan Gibson Anderson Fabio
Bebe Hernandez

I expect something similar. Has Fabio been playing on the wing in the reserves? We're missing a body up front with Owen being injured but moving a couple as you've done solves that apart from requiring Rafael to play, which I don't think he will.

Brown will start as a full back I think. don't know why but I have the feeling. the man deserves a start on the right or in the middle, doesn't matter I miss him

Rio's out, Evans is a major doubt, Vidic will probably be rested, that would leave three senior centrebacks:

O'Shea, Smalling and Brown.

I'm expecting something like:

Bebe Hernandez

If it was that personel, I would see Fabio at leftback, O'Shea in the middle with Gibson, Bébe on the wing and Anderson off Hérnandez.

Obertan Gibson O'Shea Bébé

Yeh I know what you mean with Rafael, I only have him in because he's been in and out of the team lately through 1 reason or another.

I had Bebe up top based on Fergie's comments the other week where he said he was a striker rather than a winger.

Fergie better not make a bollox of this tie. Last season against Leeds was a feckin low-point & the same against West Ham this season. We'll never hear the end of it if we lose or even draw!

He better put a decent team out & have a few in reserve in case we need a get out of jail card, cos Crawley will be well up for it & its easier to defend than to attack!

He is not going to use both our fit right backs for this game. He needs to rest one while he plays the other. I think we will definitely play two strikers up top rather than one in a home game against a non-league team.

the team you quote has all 3 right backs in it! all 4 if you count Fabio as an option.

I'll be pissed out of my wits if we fielded our reserves instead of members from our first team squad.

Can someone change the time on the front page please - I nearly had a heart attack.

Edit: Ok, it turns out it's me who can't read because I thought it said it was tonight

yep. I meant Brown as a centre back. O'Shea on the right. Didn't know about Evans being a doubt. Injury?

 Spacker. WHat made you think it was tonight?

Just like to say that I had a terrible dream last night about this game. Being in NZ, the games take place in the middle of the night, & my dream was that I'd woken up at 4am, turned on my phone to see the score, and found United were 3-1 down, with 10 to go. We hammered the goal, managed to nick one back, but still lost 3-2. Was a terrible dream!

Back to reality, I think we'll win comfortably, similar to when we played Burton Albion a few years back at OT. United to win by 3+

Not a bad call that. Him and Chico up front. Counter attacking wouldn't be hard if they decided to come full throttle at us and try and get lucky.

CRAWLEY boss Steve Evans took his FA Cup minnows on a VIP tour of Old Trafford and said: Thanks my Sun!

The Sun-sponsored Blue Square Premier club face Manchester United tomorrow.

And Evans, whose side will wear The Sun logo on their shirts for the dream tie, said: "You don't realise the power of Manchester United and The Sun newspaper until you have lived my life for the last few weeks.

"My phone has not stopped ringing since the draw and people in the street have been stopping me to wish us luck.

"That's all because we've been splashed across The Sun for the last few weeks. It's a real boost to take on the world's biggest club with the backing of Britain's biggest newspaper."

Evans and his men had a cheeky look around United's home and the Scot joked: "My mates will think I jumped over the wall to get us in here!

"But I wanted my boys to see the size and the sheer aura of the place so they don't get a shock tomorrow."

"The boss confirms both da Silvas will play v Crawley, as well as Bebe, Brown, O'Shea, Chicharito and Lindegaard."

"Anderson, Gibson and Carrick are all available in midfield. Sounds like he'll rest Giggs and Scholes completely (as expected)."

So potentially:

Lindegaard
Fabio
O'Shea/Evans
Brown
Rafael
Obertan
Gibson
Anderson
Fletcher
Bebe
Hernandez

Good to see Brown mentioned.

Just as I predicted Smalling rested for midweek.

Team seems to be:

--------Lindegaard--------
Rafael-Brown-O'Shea-Fabio
--Gibson-Carrick-Anderson-
-Bébé-Chicharito-Obertan--

My guess Brown or O'Shea as captain.

Bench is more difficult to determine:

Subs:
Kuszczak
Smalling
Evra
Fletcher
Berbatov
Nani/Morrison/Brady
King/Rooney/Brady

Four of the five avaliable senior fullback options play, so I'm guessing Evra will make the bench with one of the two senior centrebacks, I'm guessing Smalling, similarly Fletcher as the remaining senior centremidfield when you take the erm Senior Senior centremidfielders out of the equation and Berbatov who missed most of the Man City game may get a few minutes against Crawley. Space for at least two junior attacking players if Nani and Rooney are brought in. And Kuszczak backup goalkeeper if he isn't promoting Poland.

Offchances for Gill, Brady, Morrison and King, maybe Norwood.

After missing the Man City game almost certainly Carrick will be in the midfield of a 4-3-3 with O'Shea as left sided centreback. It perhaps leaves one place open, I'd assume would be taken by Gabriel Obertan if fit.

As versatile as O'Shea and the da Silvas are, I can't see beyond the da Silvas at fullback and O'Shea and Brown in central defence.

Rafael and O'Shea will play, DeLaet is on loan anyway isn't he?

He is not going to use both our fit right backs for this game. He needs to rest one while he plays the other. I think we will definitely play two strikers up top rather than one in a home game against a non-league team.

He's more or less just confirmed that he's using 'all three rightback choices' and resting Smalling. Since Rio and Evans are out it, he needs to rest Smalling and Vidic more than Rafael and O'Shea I'm afraid.

It's been a while since Brown has had a full game for United and I think O'Shea's been at centreback just once this season and then for the Republic of Ireland, but he has been playing and unlike Smalling he's had the experience working with Brown in central defence. Brown and O'Shea have to be ready to come in if Vidic or Smalling get sent off or injured while Evans and Rio are out, it also gives them a game so that either could replace Rafael if needs be or in the case of John O'Shea ... replace anyone.

In the unlikely chance that the back four were to all pull up, yes United would probably have to have Fletcher at rightback and no senior defensive cover. However, it's more likely that either Smalling or Vidic are injured before or during the Marseille game and Fergie would have to choose between Brown and O'Shea in the role.

Strong side for Crawley clash

Sir Alex Ferguson won't be taking anything for granted against non-league Crawley Town on Saturday with the United boss set to field a number of the players who helped see off Southampton in the last round.

The manager confirmed that a host of senior players including John O'Shea, Wes Brown and Michael Carrick will all be involved, while the likes of Bebe, Chicharito and the da Silva brothers will also feature in the FA Cup fifth round tie.

The Reds, however, will be without the injured Michael Owen after the striker picked a knock in training earlier in the week, while Ji-sung Park is also missing.

"It's disappointing because I was keen to play Michael," the boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference. "We could risk him but there's no point. He should be okay for Wednesday [against Marseille].

"Ji picked up a hamstring injury in the last few minutes of training last Friday. It's a blow because we've missed him [while he's been away on international duty]. He won't be available until March now.

"Rio [Ferdinand] and Jonny [Evans] are also still injured.

"We'll play all the players who were involved at Southampton in the last round," added the boss. "Bebe will play, so will the two da Silvas, Brown, O'Shea, Chicharito. We're strong in midfield with Anderson, Gibson and Carrick all available."

United may be overriding favourites to make it through to the quarter-finals, but Sir Alex insists his players still need to produce the goods to get through.

"It should be an interesting game. We've got good experience of playing sides like Crawley having played Burton Albion and Exeter," he said.

"Those games were reminders that shocks can happen, and they almost did against those two teams. But the quality of players we'll have on Saturday shouldn't give us the same worry.

"We respect the fact that Crawley are the best non-league side for quite a while. They're very committed and aggressive and it'll be a tough game."

can't take anything for granted, but anything less than a win would be tad embarrassing.

really hope a couple of the academy lads get a place on the bench....

it is more important to give th fringe players games than an academy player. We have a lot of games coming up and will be calling on the squad a lot, so we need players at proper match sharpness, and the fringe players are more likely to be called upon than the youth players.

In saying that, apparently Smalling is going be rested tomorrow as well - so I could see a backline (from the players named by Fergie) of Raf-Brown-O'Shea-Fabio.

With the other players named as Anderson, Gibson, Obertan, Bebe and Chico, there is potential for a youth player to get in there.

In a 433 you could have Tunnicliffe or Pogba (based on balance of the midfield 3, I don't think Morrison would be as comfortable) alongside Anderson and Gibson.

In a 442, you could have King partnering Chico up front.

I would say Carrick is more likely to be put in, in a 433, though.

I would like to see King on the bench, and at least one of our CM prospects too, and for them to get some game time, at least. I can understand the reasoning for not playing them from the start.

Going with the coments Fergie made on Mutv and his press conferance I think this is the team for tomorrow

Lindegaard
Rafael-Brown-O'Shea-Fabio
Bebe-Carrick-Gibson-Obertan
Anderson
Chicharito

No idea at all with the subs really.
