Barcelona - a lot of moaning about them and some praise

Closing my eyes, I imagined our players surrounding the ref while Rio lay on the floor, rolling, peeking at the referee, getting a player sent off, and popping up

It's a depressing thought

That match just defined why every single football fan in the world should be supporting United in the final. And I don't want to have to say that, but it's true.

Wow Alastair I'm out of words...

(I know that sounds like I'm being romantic but I'm not!)

Seriously, so what ? Every commentator and fan of the PL keep saying "this wouldn't be given in the PL" but this isn't the PL.The PL isn't the reference for everything related to football

It wouldn't have been a red against any other side than Barca, that a better way of putting it?

Thank you.

Unfortunately that won't happen. The ABU's/City/Liverpool supporters will all support Barca.

They play beautiful football you know, nothing bad about them whatsoever :wenger:

Madrid striker Adebayor told ITV Sport's Gabriel Clarke: "Football is a game for men but when you play Barcelona and you touch them, they are on the floor crying like babies."

So does Adebayor normally go shove babies in the face?

Absolutely loved it when he did that.

I don't watch Barca all that often but I did watch them against another Spanish team a few weeks ago.

Whoever it was contained them very well and how did the great Barca handle it...same as they did today, dropping and writhing all over the pitch any time someone went near them. I was disgusted with them then and I'm disgusted with them today.

They're an embarrassment to themselves and Spanish football.

God forbid they end up in the final and we all have to sit through 90 mins of that again.

Seriously, that was supposed to be the show-case semi final

Instead we got half-time brawling, diving, and faking injuries

What will UEFA do about it? Feck all

United on the other hand did show-case football how it should be played & the spirit it should be played in

UEFA took a very unusual step of essentially locking the teams away at full time, which strikes me as a move to show that they're taking it vaguely seriously. This went too far tonight.

Wow… Credit where credit's due.

Good man.

Barcelona did nothing wrong. They did whatever they could do to gain an advantage. That is admirable.

They need to find a way to stop diving, and especially this disgusting 'clutching the face in pain' playacting, being rewarded. The whole world watching, being treated to this ridiculous nonsense instead of a game of football. Individual brilliance from Messi could not cover it up - it was a sad evening for the game.

Get in sir. The righteousness in this thread is insane..people will do whatever they can to get an advantage. Madrid have been just as bad in previous games but I don't see that getting mentioned. Eye for eye and all that..

To me it's not about righteousness -- I just find all this playacting idiotic and detrimental to a good game of football. I don't want the game to degenrate into a 'rolling around holding your face'-competition, with the best scenery-chewers coming out on top.

Of course I understand it's a difficult situation for the refs, and it's genuinely hard finding a way which would diminish the incentive to dive/act, but can you honestly say you enjoyed the game tonight?
I don't think Barcelona is a disgusting team in any way, but I share the OP's frustration. Those were 90 minutes of solid boredom and silly cheating (from both teams).

All right then. We're going to play with 12 players in the final, the twins both kitted out as Rafael. It's only to gain an advantage.

Bunch of cnuts that can play football pretty brilliantly. cnuts nevertheless.
Everytime I see them rolling around on the floor I sincerely hope someone would give them a real reason to stay on the floor.

Should it end up United v Barca final, surely SAF will be having something to say in his pre-match press conference about not letting the barca players surround the ref and all that other nonsense they got up to today

I hope the referee in the CL final is made to sit down and watch repeated slow motion replays of all their antics tonight. Disgraceful stuff. Fecking Busquets is possibly the biggest cheat I've ever seen on a football pitch.

Madrid were no angels though. Dirty, niggling fouls and unbelievably negative tactics. For all their sins, at least Barca played some football in the middle of all the nonsense. Oh and Messi was absolutely sublime. Best player in the world, by a margin.

I hated myself for saying it, but I genuinely think it's true. I don't often support British teams in Europe, but I just can't support Barcelona in the final, I just can't. And United are the only other team left. It's a hideous situation.
If it's any consolation Alastair I didn't think I'd ever support Real, but I did in the second half and I will do next week. The mere thought of supporting Real gives me a horrible feeling inside but it's not anywhere near as bad as the feeling I get at the thought of supporting Barca.

Lesser of two evils and all that....

Both teams were disgraceful I agree.

And yes messi is the best right now. I'm worried personally :(

Admirable. I was desperate for Barca to beat you, and I probably would be in a final too, though you're considerably less evil than them. It's frightening to think of how much I would hate Barca or Real if they were English.

Attempts on target (UEFA & guardian):

Barca 5
RM 3

off target (UEFA):

Barca 2
RM 2

Blocked shots (UEFA):

Barca 1
RM 2

(total) goal attempts (the guardian):

Barca 11
RM 10

This is true, but so is this. Nobody in the PL will be asked if he bleeds from his penis once a month.

In the CL final versus Barca.

Rio pops up and not only is he fine, he gives the Barca bench a big D-Generation-X SUCKIT pelvic thrust.

That would be hilarity on an unimaginable scale and quite possibly an unassailable display of poetic justice.

Love it!

I find it odd how the entire Barca team went straight to the ref on the Pepe/Alves incident and not a one of them checked on Alves immediately. It was almost like it's rehearsed in practice.

Player goes down hard, you go find the ref.

Disgraceful. I hope United trash these cnuts in the final.

It's a good thing Ruben de la Red didn't play for Barca. He'd have gone down and the whole team would be hounding the ref rather than checking on him.

Adebayor: "Football is a game for men but when you play Barcelona and you touch them, they are on the floor crying like babies."

Jose had a go at Barcelona, the refs, and UEFA in the press conference. It doesn't help that they play to get players sent off with all 11 players going down like they've been shot anytime someone touches them. If it was one or two players, then it's their propensity to be overdramatic, but the entire Barca team strategically exaggerates everything. Or just flat out play-acts. They're despicable footballers for it. It's quite apparent that UEFA doesn't give a shit about sportsmanship when it comes to Barca.

Personally I cringe when I see Nani rolling about holding his face when a fly lands in his hair gel or a player brushes the top of his head with a hand or fingers. (even though I know Nani does get tackled hard at times). To have a whole team doing that would be horrible. What's funnier is that the king of play acting in Spain, Andreas, wasn't even playing tonight. Recall a few times when he's made a meal of loads in games against us.

And Mourinho, Pepe, Ramos, Marcello, Adebayor, Di Maria should be proud? They have been pathetic for three of the four classicos so far. At least Barca try to play the game.

Get a grip for Christ sake.

Oi' Pepe' was awesome in their draw, extremely top class and broke their play like no other...

I really though Pepe' was immense.

Filthy, pathetic, miserable excuses of sportsmen

Don't think i've ever wanted to beat a team more than on 28th may.
