its not all about european cups though is it alan. paisley took over from the foundations shankly had dug, ferguson had to dig his own foundations, he took over man utd when they had got nowhere near winning the league in 20 years and look what he has done. ferguson even won 10 trophies with aberdeen and even won 2 european trophies for them which is phenominal.

at man utd, ferguson took over at a time when the standard of the english game was absoloute dogshit compared to the best in europe and he's took time to build up to european level, but 3 champions league finals in the last 4 years despite having a less net spend than us over the last 5 years is just brilliant.

what paisley did for us was brilliant but look at the longjevity of ferguson below in the stuff i copied from wikipedia, the man is an absolute genius.

He has won 46 trophies as manager which makes him the most successful British football manager in history.

Hats off to that guy, in a pool of shite hes actually had the decency to go against the grain and post that, the abuse hes about to receive is inevitable but even so it deserves quoting.

Sir Alex IS the greatest of all time, theres just no dispute to be had.

Football works in cycles, and right now United are coming towards the end of their current cycle with Ferguson not long from retiring, the Glazers pumping money out of the club and their inability to invest in top class players anymore.

Liverpool on the other hand are about to embark on their own cycle of success with brand new owners who know what it takes to be successful, a club where fans and the team/manager are united in a common goal, and a lot of young talent waiting to be nurtured.

I am happy with our future chances of getting back to domestic top dogs status in the next few years. They can have their five minutes of glory, but I know that next season we will be back, standing toe to toe with them and fighting hard for our own number 19. Chin up lads n lasses, our future is bright.

feck the cnuts, they'll never take this day off us.

They're talking shite that we better look out next season. They should be more concerned with trying to get back into the top 4 before anything else.

But we won it a few years below and were generally recognized as being the number one team in the league, even in reality we weren't. And it's not like Liverpool were sidelined from the Sky money.

Moores did not build us that new stadium when arguably it would have been cheaper, our marketing and commercial department was epically poor and then he sold us off the H&G.

The simple reality is once you stand still, someone is always going to catch up. We stood still and Utd caught us up. We never should have stood still and the only possible reason we currently even have a chance of catching up with Utd now, is because of the Glazers hemorrhaging money out of the club. Without that debt, Utd would be in a league of their own, one that even RM and Barca couldn't match. Then it really would have been "bye bye number 19".

Hmmm.

feck em, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Liverpool Haven't been our rivals for the last 5 years and yes I even include the Benintez best ever season. Let them have as many revivals as they want. I'll concentrate on the teams that are constantly stepping up to the plate, as well as those that have found new respect on the pitch. Liverpool will always be the same. Living in the past and arguing over the things that happened years ago when they were the centre of the world in their own little eyes. The Beatles and Liverpool fc, part of history.

When/if Van der Sar is lifting the Premier League trophy, all he'll be thinking about Reina and his ESPN internet award :(

We aint had Kenny here tho.

Slate me all you like but im 100% positive the league ours next year.

Today's events will spur this club and its fans on im sure of it, we have needed a kick up the arse now for a long time and today we got one.

We have a target, something to fight for again and this is it.

Now lets get physical and fight for what was once ours, starting on monday.

WE WILL NOT GO SILENTLY INTO THE NIGHT.

We have come along way this year, i must admit i didnt think we would have a club anymore at one stage last october, but we came through that storm.

and like the other storms this club has endured we will come through this storm.

Believe!
:( Cancel the celebration lads, it's over.

as shit as it is utd winnin, silver lining pepe can go joint top with a clean sheet tomorrow cant he?

A silver lining??

We've just all but won number 19, and this moron is claiming Reina getting the Golden Glove would be a silver lining :wenger:

And shouldn't that be a golden lining, to match the golden dawn they will apparently emerge into right after the storm and the bit where they won't go silently into the night? It's like they're trying to win a maudlin mixed metaphor contest.

I see their pinching our 'Believe' as well

Like the way they are 100% sure of the title. Like it's a given. To be fair everything points towards it happening. Although by everything I mean some things. And by some things I mean nothing.

Real Madrid count them ridiculous European Cups they won in the 50's, we shouldn't dismiss our achievements however easy/small they are either, but celebrate them!

Us claiming 20 League Titles would be no more small time than Real Madrid claiming to have won 9 European Cups.

the first 5 euro cups that Real won were invitation only. I think they were one of about 6 teams to 'compete' in it.

As for Real's first 5 European titles, let them have them. The English entrants, had they been there, would have been Chelsea, Man Utd (twice) and Wolves (twice) so I'm quite happy with that...

Cretins. They quite clearly have access to the internet. They can easily look up the early European Cup details, but apparently not as easy as they can just make up the details to suit themselves.

Those English sides (barring Chelsea who bowed to the FA by not competing in the first one) did play in those early European Cup tournaments. Also, Real played 7 games on the way to each of those victories - same as Liverpool did in 1977-78. Chalk that one off too?
