its not all about european cups though is it alan. paisley took over from the foundations shankly had dug, ferguson had to dig his own foundations, he took over man utd when they had got nowhere near winning the league in 20 years and look what he has done. ferguson even won 10 trophies with aberdeen and even won 2 european trophies for them which is phenominal.
at man utd, ferguson took over at a time when the standard of the english game was absoloute dogshit compared to the best in europe and he's took time to build up to european level, but 3 champions league finals in the last 4 years despite having a less net spend than us over the last 5 years is just brilliant.
what paisley did for us was brilliant but look at the longjevity of ferguson below in the stuff i copied from wikipedia, the man is an absolute genius.
He has won 46 trophies as manager which makes him the most successful British football manager in history.
