Are people really saying Persie is not technically at Berbatov's level? Fecks sake, Persie is probably the most skilful player at the club. His first touch is a thing of beauty. RVP has got a lot more ability than people give him credit for..shame his legs are made of glass though.
Commadus: What's happened to you? Didn't you really really really hate Berbatov?
I think a.temp ban which he served a year ago helep him change his mind![]()
And a fully male auntie would be my uncle.
That's very insensitive if you're not aware of Pogue's 'difficult' upbringing.

If we had RvP he'd probably be injured for the match against Barca.I think the difference is, if we had RvP, he would probably be starting vs. barca.
Man....
Why must you gooners always take things too far.
Why must the line always be crossed?
There's a huge DO NOT CROSS sign infront of the line but you casually walk over it anyway.
You don't believe that. No way. Top 3/5 in the world by foot.
I'm sick of reading this argument, that penalties count as goals so they should be considered equally. If one striker takes penalties and another doesn't then the former will have a big advantage over the latter when it comes to opportunities to score, based on the fact he is the best penalty taker at the club. Yes, they are legitimate goals, but they're not particularly useful when comparing two particular strikers, especially if you are comparing them based on goal tally.
B9 mentioned he is overrated. He is by some to be fair
Im sorry rewind a sec, when did Van Persie become a world class striker?? wasnt this the first season hes even reached double figures for Arsenal for christ sake?
World class striker my anus.
I'm pretty sure you've told us that before somewhere. In fact, I think you've pretty much told us that in this thread already. Regardless, let's all be happy that even if he's not been the player many thought he'd be, he certainly hasn't been the player you thought he was this summer when you proclaimed him an undeniable flop.
.
I was having a jolly debate with an Arsenal supporting friend until it came onto who is a better player - Berbatov or Van Persie.
After quite a long discussion it boiled down to this - Van Persie is overall the better player but Berbatov gets it because he is not injured all the time like VPS so his contribution is better overall.
Anyone agree / disagree?
That's probably true
Also, we could realistically only compare them both if they played on the same team, club or country
YOu'd never know how would Berba do at Arsenal. RvP is a cracking player who, when fit is a joy to watch, but he'd lose his place to Chicharito with the way we play at the moment.
And who is to say Berba wouldn't fit even better at Arsenal than Van Persie
I think Van Persie would be a good fit for United, he plays quite similarly to Saha, there is a physical resemblance too as both tall and slim although one's darker then t'other obviously, but getting back to the playing comparison, RVP likes to run with the ball, good with either foot so I can't see why he wouldn't be a good fit at United, I think he'd actually be a better fit in terms of the way he plays than Berbatov is.
I'm not keen on RVP personally though, bit of an eejit...
He could be a good fit for United. My point is, Chicharito has exceptional movement on and off the ball. One I haven't seen for years. Can't replace that
With Rooney's energy and in the hole, we can play 2 wingers again, although rather defensive wingers, in a 4-4-2..sort of. With RvP..not so much

I would agree with that but doesn't VPS injury record count against him when it comes to impact over a season.
RVP in 7 seasons - 230 apps / 95 goals / 53 assists
Berba in 6 seasons - 230 apps / 91 goals
what? He's pretty fecking consistent to be fair, he's a cracking free-kick taker.
Odd comment.
Penalties are GOALS mate, if they were a God-given certainty, Berb wouldn't have missed the penalty against Everton in 2009, the only one he's taken for us.
What makes a striker is getting back on the horse after you missed one.
Van Persie is probably underrated because he plays in a side who haven't won anything for 6 years. I also think being a teams penalty taker shows a strong mental side to your game, they are pressure chances as many strikers will attest, the longer you have to think about it, the harder it is.
You make the point that Berbatov has never been our penalty taker, then criticise him for not "getting back on the horse"? I'm sure he'd love to take penalties, as in his Spurs day he took a few, but when he joined us there were plenty of suitable options for penalties here.
How many assists has Berbatov gotten in that time?
5 freekicks? In about 5 years I suspect going by one of the jerseys. And while I'm sure he's scored more than that I do think you're overrating his consistency in that area.

This is probably what seals it for RVP. United are clearly the better team, as evidenced by their success. So it's only natural he would do better with our squad. The matter of him being suitable for the team is probably not a matter at all, as he seems to be just the type of player that would thrive with us, not speaking personality wise though.
Bob, he's taken one in a shoot-out against Everton and we know how that went.
His head always notoriously drops when he's not getting chances or if he scuffs one, take Blackburn last season, the City semi-final this year.
Hernandez, Rooney, Henry, Shearer etc missed chances and they got back on the horse and cracked on with their jobs, not let their heads drop...
You're naming 3 very clinical strikers in that bunch. And while it would be handy to have Berba with similar attributes, it's not nor will it ever be the player that he is. You know that by now, and wishing doesn't make it so. You expect things from him that he doesn't look to achieve. He admits himself he's a provider, regardless of whether or not he has the Golden Boot this year.
They are the same type of player. Van Piersie is just the superior finisher.
Train wreck of a post.
And you were correct, no he hasn't only scored 5 free-kicks in 5 years, ridiculous comment. He really does consistently hit the target.
I wouldn't be 'happy' to see Berbatov leave but I'd be disappointed in the fact I don't think he's been the player many thought he'd be as even with the goals he's scored this year, he still didn't produce against the big teams in the business end.
True.
Fergie won't be pursuing any 27 year old players costing so much in future.
Admittedly yes, I might have used better examples but do you yourself admit he let's his head go west after he misses chances? Do you admit he's never produced for us in Europe or in the league games against important rivals in March, April & May between 2009-2011?
Do you admit he was bought to provide that 'something different' (whatever that is) to unlock defences in these games against these big teams, not just against the likes of Birmingham and Blackpool?
Yes I'm fully able to admit that he hasn't fully provided what was initally expected by me and everyone esle, but that's not to say he's been a failure. He's definitely improved this season so the futures Orange™
I wish I shared your view brother Robert, but I think he's peaked for us. I see the glass half empty and declare despite having a better season this year, the overall view is he's been more poor than effective in his three seasons with us.
And I think Hernandez will be the starting accompaniment to Wayne Rooney from here on in, he may get the odd start (if he stays) but will always be a squad member, nowt more.
Top scorer in the league. Scored more winners than anyone else. It really kills Johnno, doesn't it.![]()
No, it doesn't Lance, I'm truly happy about that.
What kills me is his performances when it matters more against City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Europe etc.
I've said loads of times no-one will be more happier than me were he to come off the bench Saturday night and do a Teddy. But the likelihood of that happening are slim really, aren't they?
