superb. i'm sure the lad is gutted, but this will give him an opportunity to get rest, get fresh for the new season, have a proper pre-season etc.

Crucial season for him this.

Just hope he doesn't come into july overweight.

Thought Ando was great in most of the games he played last year, our away performances in general were poor so I can't really blame him solely there either.

He already is a cracking player and he will only get better.

People have been saying that for a long time and now its is really the time he shows consistancy and gets his fitness level up.

He was fantastic for us at home this season. Arguably our best midfielder there. Ran the show in several games and basically took Everton on his own until Rooney remembered that he's Wayne Rooney and dropped back to help move the ball forward.

People must not forget that our only dropped points of the season at home came when Sir Alex, for some stupid reason, took him out of central midfield for Gibson. He was running the show prior to that.

He's going to be a cracking player in a few years.

He's 23 years old. We've been saying that since he was 19.

Of course he still can be brilliant but it's getting more worrying and worrying as the seasons pass by.

Thought he had a good season for a 23 year old central midfielder, to be honest. Not really his fault he's had miserable luck with injury.

Depends on whether he's happy with his place in the squad. I can't see Fergie moving him out ahead of any of our other central midfielders if he's happy here.

This season has to be his season, Scholes is retired, Hargreaves has left, Giggs is another year older. He has to show real progression this year or i feel he'll be shipped out

If he doesnt make the long awaited step up next season do we see him being moved on?

If he has a poor season I can see Fergie losing patience.

He's shown some very encouraging signs of progress in the season just gone, though, so a poor season is unlikely. All the more so now it's confirmed he'll get a full pre-season.

I'm encouraged he will do well this coming season after a good finish to last season.

This season hopefully should be the making of him as a United player

I think hes nearer the exit door than alot of people think. Next season is make or break imo. Really hope he does make it here, hes a likeable a character. Agree on a full preseason being a massive advantage

Roy Keane came to United aged 23.

Anderson has already chalked up 3 league winners medals, 2 league cups and a CL winners medal by the same age and played over 100 games for us despite missing a chunk with a cruciate ligament injury.

In flashes he shows what he can offer us as a possible box to box midfielder. I think he's worth hanging onto for a couple more seasons at least. I'd ship Carrick out the door long before Anderson.

There's one thing i find perplexing. I can quite understand liking one player more than the others in the squad, but hating a player from the team you support is a bit weird.

Anderson has in every home game he's played last season been among the top 3 players (slight exaggeration) and yet some of you aren't willing to give him more time than one season before chucking him out the door with a big foot up his backside?. The lad's been showing signs of progress and i, for one, would support him as long as he wears the colours of united. He's been bad in away games that any one will agree, but its not like we've played very very well in away games. A player is as good as the team that surrounds him, we weren't very good away from home. I don't think any player played to his potential away from OT, so we give them all one season to turn in amazing performance one after the another and if they don't we chuck them out eh?

I've probably been one of his biggest critics, but he's managed to find the net a few times last season. Baby steps but progression nonetheless, he'll be here a while yet.

And Anderson hasn't been THAT bad. At times during those 4 years he's been brilliant.

Oh I know, not arguing that. He has at times been brilliant but he still has to go and make the step up and become consistently brilliant, like he should be able to do. 5 years without doing that will be a big problem if it happens again.

It would help if he actually has a pre season and loses his belly for once.

I'm a fan of Anderson but only half of our League games are played at home. He had some shockers away from home (along with the rest of the team). Next season should really be the final step up, otherwise, he might be shipped out. There is a lot of talent and promise, however, I am not sure about his mental strenghts and determination

Agreed. Its worth a mention that towards the end of the season he started getting himself into scoring positions more often, which resulted in a few goals, maybe its something he's trying to add to his game.

True but Keane was far more consistent and determined. You knew what you'd get from him, while in Anderson's case, he's a mixed bag. He's absolutely worth hanging onto but only as long as he has something to offer. Obviously.

I agree with you

he isnt as far along as he should be. He wll probably get one more year but I still have me doubts about him.

To be honest if he left I dont think i would be too upset.

he is starting to look good in a more advanced role and even hit the net a few times, hopefully he can stay injury free this season and then there is every chance of it been his year.

You've finally come around to my way of thinking eh doc?. :smirk:

:D a little, Clique.

I've seen more improvement than regression so I think he might make it after all.

If he sheds some pounds and ups his cardio-fitness he might nail down a place next season.

A proper pre season with the team should help with the weight issue as well as his stamina issue. I think he'll play more than this season and play much better in away games too. We weren't all that great in away games as a team to be honest.

Time will tell though!. Do you really think we'd buy big in market this year though?. A midfielder of great repute?. I for one am a little cautious over tales of Sneidjer or Modric. We'd buy a talented young kid with bundles of talent and he'll be rotated along with the three other options we've got. Scholesy though our best midfielder last season had only a periphery role.

Yeah a full pre-season could be the key for him.

I want us to buy Schweinsteiger but we'll probably go for someone a little less established.

Just to get the muppet juice flowing!. A Yann M'vila perhaps?.. Or some kid from Dortmund?. Gotze?. Understandly i've not seen a lot of either of these players. :D . But the pig man's gonna cost us an arm and a leg!.

One of the positives we can take from him not missing the pre-season is the excuse that he hasn't a proper pre-season yet. I'm not one to rush young players and I do believe Anderson will establish himself as a first team member for us but with this pre-season behind his belt there are less excuses if he doesn't deliver. So now even if he does have an average season what do we do with him?

I suggest we hold onto him for at least another 1-2, but others might not have that patience.

Aye but he's worth every penny. Makes Germany tick. Brilliant player.

Am I right if I say that once a Brazilian player goes the wrong side of 30 these days their services to the NT is no longer needed? It always seem like Brazil is bringing in new players, I guess they are one of few National teams that can actually be in a constant rebuild without affecting the player quality much.

Its not necessarily the case. Brazil do have a lot of young talent, and some of them get really early chances (18, 19). But some veteran players do stay on, like Lucio, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Elano right now. And it wouldn't be surprising to see those players feature in 2014.

It is a young NT, especially upfront right now, with Robinho being the oldest player in the starting front 4.

In Brazil the national team does have its own "rules", so to say. The coach won't pick the best 23 Brazilian players around the world at any given time, but rather those he's accustomed to, and that have played well for the NT in the past. That's why the 2010 WC team featured players completely past their best club days like Gilberto Silva, Kleberson, and especially Elano. Everyone can see that Elano's club career hasn't gone very far, but he's had a spot with the NT for the past 5 years now because he does well for the NT.

Personally I don't agree, I don't think you'll be beating top sides with midfielders who have proven they can't play at the top level of world football, but that is how it goes.

And finally there's the issue of getting completely burned. Mostly that's in the eyes of the media and the fans, but it will make a player a complete outcast. Examples are Felipe Melo and even Kaka right now. Felipe Melo is a decent midfielder, should get considered at times, but he's unlikely to ever play for the NT again because he got sent off in the WC QF. Kaka is still probably Brazil's best attacking player if fit, but he also can't book a spot in a 22 man squad. Granted, Kaka should be back in the future, but he's still a bit burned because of 2010. He played through injury to be at the WC, but because he was expected to deliver and couldn't, Brazilians judge him a poorer player than he really is.

How does Anderson's future in a United shirt look then? He had a great first season but has been (in my opinion) not up to United's high standards in recent years.

He needs to lose weight if he does want to feature regulary, I know that much.

He's not overweight like. Don't know why this stereotype still exists...
