1. If you believe some of the crap that's been posted on here, we already have.

2. Since Israel has been holding democratic elections for over 60 years now you could have a pretty good idea of the balance of political power here.

Breaking news : Mubarak probably will give a speech today and transfer his powers to the army !!!

Currently there's a meeting between : Mubarak ,Soliman , Anan ( Army Chief of staff) and Tantawi ( Minister of defense)

Not sure how to take these news !!! good /bad? what will happen in the future?? :S ..Martial Law??

Good luck

No more egypt/israel/pali chat please guys.. major events happening. we could be witnessing history today

Thanks for you all for your support

We've gone off topic enough already without getting into the mess that Israeli politics is. What I was implying was that a vast majority of Israelis would never vote for the extreme right, based on previous election results.

True, but that doesn't prevent the extreme right from potentially getting bits of its agenda implemented in return for supplying a handful of votes to the government. That's where the true balance of power lies.

Israeli politics is fiendishly complicated, and much more murky (to me) now than it was even just 5 years ago. I would not hazard a guess to the outcome of an election, and put money on it, much less the evolution of future Israeli peace policy.

Hats off Avatar, hope Suleiman will call an election soon.

Sulaiman is not in power too it seems. news since yesterday of conflict between him and the army.. I would love that. TV shots just now showed the Army meeting with neither Mubarak nor Soliman anywhere to be seen. Most of us here are worried of Sulaiman and his latest words past weeks were provocative. he threatened us implicitly yesterday and he said to Amanpour that Egypt was not ready for democracy 2 days ago

Only problem now is the army may want to cling to power or will they work for a civil democratic state. Either way, the people are not gullible nor passive anymore. we will continue what we started god's willing

feckin' teaser !!!

News that his speech is live not recorded and that he may transfer power to Solaiman. I don't want both !!!

Again, I don't want to go off topic, but the extremists have limited power because a national unity coalition (Likud/Kadima/Labour) is an alternative to whatever adventurous policies the loons may want to promote.

Future Israeli peace policy brings us back on topic. If MB influence becomes substantial in the post-Mubarak era regarding the peace treaty I can't see Israel handing a square inch to Arab hands. Moreover, with a fragile regime in Jordan feeling the heat, a possible direct route from Iran through Iraq and a Palestinian trans-Jordan to Israel will make Israel reluctant of giving up any land west of the river Jordan.

2 hours later we are still waiting for Mubarak...

For your listening pleasure in the meantime:

Elevator GOING UP!

*Someone deleted my earlier posts... but that's ok.. good news ahead....

WOAH... The mods need to look into this... it appears that at least 6 posts vanished. HLR, did you not appreciate my Democracy review of our nations?

Obama on now

3 sentences by Pres. Obama... he didn't say much other than ''blah blah history unfolding...' ... praised the young people of Egypt.

Damn it up just realized Naguib Mahfouz is dead, I was looking to see if he was writing something about this haha, guess not.

I belive no bullets fired

It's a constitutional provision or better yet revision to bridge the gap in the transition to a democracy of the people... from what the anchors are saying... but nobody is absolutely sure what's going on.

...I gotta say Leon Panetta has done good, today. I know I don't always have a glowing review of what his dept. does, but today is a win if this all comes off the way it looks like it might.

Oh, no... this isn't sounding very good.

Mubarak is making a live statement. It should be clear what direction the situation is going to take within just a few minutes.

It's incredible how wrong the media got this. It seemed a certainty that he was going to step aside.

the protests could turn violent now.

more violent I mean. Not good.

Ladies and Gentlemen::

May I present to you the most feckin' deluded clown the history of humanity

marching to state tv building and presidential palace will be soon this way..very soon

Brilliant move by the protesters... they have a choice of marching on the Palace or State TV... If they march on the Palace, Mubarak will slaughter them.... but they are marching towards the State TV building... any successful revolt takes over the media... smart group these protesters.

FFS.

Mubarak is the greatest WUM in the Middle East. With a statement like, "all your wishes will be answered", you can't possibly blame the media or the protesters for believing he might actually concede defeat.

people want the army to intervene now or we're taking it in our hands

Already thousands surrounding the State Tv building

Also hear thousands are marching to Heliopolis, that's where the presidential palace is

6 more months to consolidate existing power, pull strings, call in favors, et cetera, possibly with the aim of manufacturing some further "emergency" that requires him to stay in power forever.

How long is he planning to live? He's already 82. Can a man at that age still want more?! I'd go visit some places where old people like to hang out, like France, or go fishing. Instead of being locked up in a palace. How ridiculously boring!

It's like the octogenarian billionaires who think they need tax cuts. Being the sort of person who was willing to devote their entire life amassing that money/power/whatever is how they got to where they are in the first place. Giving it up to kick back and play some golf isn't in their makeup.
