For as many great players you list (Cillessen :lol:) there's a Janssen or an Assaidi.

City lose/draw maybe a few games in the league all season and will finish on 100+ points in a MUCH stronger league than the Eredivisie.

The Dutch league is very weak in terms of strength in depth throughout, hence why a lot of weak/average players have thrived there in the past. Mason Mount has cut his output by two thirds from the Dutch League to the championship ffs, it's undeniably not on the same level as the top leagues, and yes that is due to money. If the dutch league had the same money as the top ones then I have no doubt it'd be on the same level but it doesn't, and clubs like Newcastle, Burnley etc can outspend the top dutch clubs as a result.

Lots of talented players come from the league, but leave pretty quickly, as we're seeing with this Ajax side. That's definitely a huge shame.

Ajax are much more the iconic team, don’t play urself down. Your youth development are arguably the best in the world. I expect an even game, I don’t think you will play as u usually do.

This ain't a typo. Yes, the difference is that big!

Tottenham is one of the wealthiest clubs in the world.

The Eredivisie is dog shit compared to the PL. :lol:

We can't compete with the big competitions, but we have the talent and a world-class academy.
So there's still a little bit hope left.

If we lose, hopefully Tottenham can beat Barca or Liverpool.
Jan, Toby and Eriksen deserve it.

what on earth. you think spurs doesn't have a bigger budget than Ajax? you bought the best player of our most recent european final-reaching side for 45 million.
 
This game made me more worried about the opening fixture vs Ajax.

Relying on Lucas to lead the line is pretty scary. He's a good player but very patchy with his finishing and far from a reliable player.

We could really struggle for goals at home.
 
1-1 would be good result for Spurs in the home leg.

Potential to get a 2-2 in the Arena.

There'd be a mass Caf suicide. Will be absolutely miserable on here, with many lamenting of what could have been. Especially if we miss out on top 4.

I don't even think that means we made the wrong decision with Ole, if Poch wins the CL. Remember there was a stretch of games where Spurs dropped out of the title race and was lambasted by everyone?

Not quite sure what he was going for with that one, it made no impact whatsoever.

Could they win the champions League yet finish outside the top four??!

It's only the champions League campaign which is enhancing Poch at the moment, the league form has been generally average since Christmas. No signs of progression from last season other than the champs league, which is to be expected really when Levy was pulling the purse strings I suppose.

Yah, that's fair. I'm not sure we made the wrong decision with Ole either. Just wish we would have waited until the end of the season to evaluate like Woody first said they would.

It wasn't an attempt to outfox Pep, but because of injuries. Wanyama and Dier are returning from injuries, Winks and Sissoko are injured and Dembele sold. We had Skipp who is 18 years old, but beyond that we didn't have much.

As someone who criticises Poch a lot, I would be very happy with him winning the CL, I think he has deserved something from his work other than top 4 finishes, he has well rounded tactics and has a knack for developing players. A very good up and coming coach.

Pretty much. We clearly needed another midfielder in the summer, particularly since we ended up selling Dembele in January.

Now it's very much makeshift/make-do/play players who are unfit (dier) when we can, and it's not really good enough. Has definitely held us back at times.

He could have brought Llorente on earlier for Alli,
Also, I thought Poch was a youth champion, if he'd prefer to play Rose in an unfamiliar position rather than a young CM, does that not speak volumes? Not as if Skipp is completely inexperienced, he has 11 appearances already.
Reminds me of the Pogba decision by Fergie!!

Skipp is nice and tidy but he's nowhere near a Pogba level talent, it's not comparable.

Tbh at best he will be a decent PL player. He's only got games this season because of our horrible midfield situation.

Only the situation, imagine how Skipp feels knowing his manager would rather play a mediocre wing back in CM rather than himself who's naturally a CM!? That's a similar situation to Pogba at United.

Anyhow, was you impressed with that Spurs performance today? Are you worried about top four at all now?

Skipp is 18, perhaps Pochettino didn't think he was ready to play away against City. Poch is the one who watch them in training, and I trust him to make that decision.

As for the performance today, I thought the team did okay, was a difficult game with little rest and half our team injured against Manchester City away. Of course I'm worried about top 4, but this game was a bonus, we have 3 home games and an away game to Bournemouth and that's where we can secure top 4. I think we're favourites for third, but anything can happen.

It's not really that similar because Pogba was an outstanding CM talent, one of the best in his age group. Skipp is merely decent and has looked passable in a couple of performances, but I trust Pochettino's judgement on this one since he's always been happy to bring through players when he feels they're ready. If he's preferring Rose I'd like to think there's a reason for that, Skipp is still incredibly raw and to bring him on against City would be a huge deal. He might be naturally a CM but he's 18, not particularly 'developed' for his age (in terms of physicality) and has very little PL experience. In all honesty he probably shouldn't be in the squad yet but got pushed through due to desperation.

I was impressed by our first half, very much so. We should have scored 2 goals from counter attacking opportunities and I think considering we had a makeshift side out we made a good go of the game overall, it was obvious City would dominate and be the better team at the Etihad considering our missing players and our lack of depth, so we overall made a good go of it. Think we defended very well to boot, other than the Sterling chance City didn't create much else aside from the goal.

The problem was that the game came too soon after the CL win, so we were naturally fatigued (and couldn't bring on ridiculous subs like City) and forced to play the likes of Dier and Foyth as a WB. It was a really tough fixture for us and I could easily have seen a 3-4 goal loss, so not too disheartened to only lose 1-0.

As for top four, I'm relatively calm. I was worried a while back but our performances have picked up and we should be winning all the fixtures we have left, and if we do that we will make the top four. Our rivals will slip up as well in places (you can be sure of that) so even if we lose/draw one of those fixtures we should be ok.

Yeah, that's a fair enough comment regarding Skipp, same to you Squishy, fair enough comments all round.
I thought Spurs looked good in the first half, Eriksens ball to Son was unbelievable, that should have been a goal.
However I agree, fatigue and a lack of options stopped you from getting anything in the second half, I thought City largely controlled it but got a bit panicked at the end a couple of times.
Squishys right, you can afford to drop points as I'm sure we will drop points against either Chelsea or City or both, although I really hope not!!
 
I would literally sacrifice all our budget and go in next season with Lingard and Jones, if that means that Poch is our manager

Seeing he had to deal with much less crop of talented players while at Spurs, that isn’t a bad idea. He would definitely have us playing good football and give us a positive identity.
 
It's so funny and sad.

Bring your minds back to Mourinho being sacked. It was a joyous mood. Everyone was hoping for Woodward to appoint a director of football and Poch was the ideal target.

I wish now that Ole did not have his run of games now. We are still 6th since he took over and we gave him a contract that Woodward can't take back.

Start over.

Pochettino doesn’t want to manage Manchester United. He’s got a lovely job at Spurs, why would he give that up to coach Laurel & Hardy?

So it’s pointless obsessing over him fellow Utd fans. Move on, get over it!

We have seen signs we are heading in the right direction? Most of our good performances came as a result of a new manager bounce. Honeymoon period is well and truly over and I have not seen any indicator that we can get back to those performances. Being in top four shows how good our team is, losing it shows how poor a job Ole has done in motivating these players.

Spurs players are better than our, it's not even close. But then that's what you probably get when you've been there for five years.

At least we know that none of our players, including the so-called world class midfielder, are good enough.
