Abortion

Surprised it took this long to hear such thoughts out loud…

Do these people not hear the words coming out of their own mouths? God forbid if his wife daughter niece was to become pregnant through rape would they then still believe this same crap?

Thumpers gonna thump.

But they would for sure get their family member an abortion, no question.

Tbf if you believe life begins at conception and that terminating it is tantamount to murder then it’s not exactly weird for them to say that the circumstances of the conception doesn’t have any bearing on that for them.

The real life consequences are horrendous, but they’re being logically consistent in their madness.

They have to respond like that. Abortion is either murder or it isn't. They need to carry that rhetoric to the logical conclusion that there is no reason for murdering a baby (unless it's theirs of course).
But how do they reconcile it with the death penalty, for example?

Except these same people will fight just as hard to deny free access to pre and post natal care, infant care, free lunches, etc.

I'm sure that this is old news, but I'm not exactly a biblical expert. The bible apparantly isnt pro life at all and there are quite a few instances where it says fetuses should be aborted? How do christians explain this?

Jesus is as socialist as you can get. If Jesus came back in this time, he would be burnt at the stake again. This time by Christian Republicans.
Actually he is more likely to be shot than burnt.

My take on abortion is that its tricky. I am on the pro choice side of the fence but I don't subscribe to everything you will hear from some pro choice circles, as if the abortion here should be as simple of a choice as getting a haircut.

I am not comfortable with abortions after the around the 20th week unless the mother is at risk or something. I don't really know what the cutoff should be though. I think the argument that men want to control women is a little weak. Maybe true in some instances, but mostly it's a religious thing for most people and a moral thing for a few.

It's also a little confusing what Roe vs Wade truly means. Right now you get all sorts of opinions. If I look at Europe I think most of their abortion laws make sense where you are allowed in the first trimester.

The core of the issue is when does a fetus become a human being with rights.

That's because Roe v Wade isn't a law, it's a Supreme Court decision. All the European countries have legislated abortion.

You seem to think abortion should be available up until viability & only in certain cases beyond that. That’s a sensible position & is basically what Roe says.

Yeah that is correct. I think the difficult part is determining that but I have zero expertise in medicine so I don't know what that should be. 20 weeks to me seems like "certain cases beyond this" but I don't know. I know someone will say it's a moot point because most abortions are not beyond 20 weeks. To an extent, I agree but even if it's 1% it's important to at least define what should be the regular procedure.

As another poster pointed out it might just be the confusing language in Roe vs Wade. Most European countries have something on paper that makes sense to me.

Of course viability isn't a definable term and if you then make exceptions based on certain circumstances that conflicts with the religious objectives of most people fighting for this change.
