Adnan Januzaj

I keep having these visions of Moyes starting the season off with Januzaj, Lingard, Zaha, Jones and Fabio in the team and us losing 3-1 in the first game and everyone writing Moyes and the team off. Of course, we then go on to do the double.

I think we had a bad pre-season back in the 90s and everyone had hammered Fergie for it and yet we won the double. Forget which season though. Maybe its an opportunity for Moyes to have his 'you won't win anything with kids' season.

He needs to bulk up and improve on his speed/acceleration but he is blessed with a great first touch and balance. Also what I find impressive is that for an 18 y.o playing with people twice his age, he wasn't fazed by it. Great composure -- doesn't snatch at the ball when he shoots.
Maybe not getting a branded creative midfielder will be a blessing in disguise for some.
Doubt he'll be able to improve on his speed much.

missed the match and only seen the highlights of the goals. He did very well to beat his man and set up valencia, just made it look so easy

He's not slow by any stretch of the imagination though, has similar pace to Mesut Ozil I'd say. Actually thinking of it, if there is one player I'd compare him to right now, by playing style and everything, it would probably be Ozil. Just so calm on the ball with brilliant technique and such a smart player. Januzaj seems more versatile though.

I don't mind us signing no one this summer and end up next season in 3rd/4th place, if that means we play alot of games with Januzaj, Lingard and Zaha etc in the team.

Your commitment to mediocrity is impressive.

That would be suicidal, the way the youngsters have performed in the preseason has been admirable but the real football is something else in terms of level and pressure. It can be frustrating I know but there is a reason why not a lot of them young players find it hard to break through at the highest level.

Well this is Moyes first season in United, 3rd or 4th place finish isn't a disaster, in view of the manager should be given more time to build up a new dynasty and all that.

I hope he gets game time, think he won't get a huge amount though, the league is so sompetitive atm that you can't afford to take too many risks with players, but I'm sure there will be a faire few home games where we an get him involved. Thats the only way he's going to progress short of a loan move.

I do not see it as being a risk though, it's not like we are talking about playing Tunnicliffe in centre mid.

Januzaj has been arguably our best player on tour, and then also the best player against a Sevilla team really up for it. Last night was no "friendly", and he stood out like a sore thumb.

If Kagawa had put his performance on we would have all been spewing in our pants. The kid personally is ready to me; sure he is skinny but he has a fight and determination in him like Rafael.

I do not expect him to start, but I think from the bench he could definitely be an impact sub if we need a clever pass.

If he is good enough he should play more games. Back then we won it with kids no one ever heard of.

Well he can go on the bench fine, I've already said that if nani stays which I hope he will I would be inclined to move young on so that adnan can get as much time as possible. Still doesn't stop the fact that he would be a bigger risk than other players. He's done everything right this summer to deserve to be in contention but there's always more to do. That said with the way kagawa pleas played so far it maybe that he does end up getting a start although I expect if kagawa isn't deemed sharp enough welbeck or giggs will come in first.

1 year left on his deal? Are we going to tie him down or lose him?

Will be interesting to see what happens with him, I know United beat Barcelona to his signature from Anderlecht and some rumours they still remain interested...they won't be alone

Yah he's staying here, he has publicly said he loves being here.

For all the realistic and sane fans maybe it won't be a disaster but the media assholes will make it seem like that.

True that Ekeke.

I like Adnan very much, he is a very elegant player, he seems committed and confident too. The big question is if he can take the final step and translate his ability onto the big stage. I really hope that he does but I can't get on the hype train just yet. I would like to see him sign a new contract for one.

If we don't give him a chance we will never find out if we don't give him a chance. We don't want another dreaded Pogba situation.

Do you think Sir Alex thought we were going to win the double when he brought the kids in wholesale in 1996. You never know what is going to happen with kids unless you give them a chance. Maybe the club have stopped being brave. I would have them in the squad, they are too good for the reserves.

Moyes has to keep the kids in the squad to show the senior players that there is a new generation coming up threating their places. I am sure some think they are untouchable.

You can be too cautious. It's not a monumental risk playing Adnan. I'd prefer him central but it's up to the experienced players to help him should he need it. When you're 18, no one is going to make you out as one of our key players and even if they did, they have to be mentally ready for that. He's very composed on the pitch and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He could do a role centrally - like Pogba would have but we have to either back our kids or keep chasing and losing youngsters of his ability. Bring in Fellaini to help with Carrick and we'll be fine.

I think Moyes has stated how impressed he has been with Adnan. He has such quality and I hope we nail down his contract sharpish. Morrision and Pogba have kind of set a new precedent with younger players walking away from United when it seemed not to happen that much. I reckon Moyes will name him on the bench quite a bit at the beginning of the season coming on to inject something different when needs be. Even at his age he has an ability to change the pace and direction of our attack. Really really excited about him....

There is a reason why what SAF did in 96 hasn't happened a lot since then, that crop of young players was absolutely amazing. For every Scholes, Giggs and co there are many more who haven't been good enough to step up.
Not saying Januzay isn't good enough by any means, just that it won't be a surprise if Moyes will be careful in how he'll use him. Januzay chances of appearances can only increase if Rooney leaves too.

You are right, we have some good kids, who need to be given their heads. It's no good buying more and more foreign youngsters if none are going to come through to the first team.

You have to also factor in that the league is becoming increasingly competitive in terms of points required, there's so little margin for error atm, I hope he gets good game time but he'd be surprised if he got a lot of time because of how competitive things are atm and the sheer number of players we have looking to play in the 4 attacking roles.

Incredible maturity for a kid his age, we really have a gem on our hands, I hope we manage him properly, there's no doubt he has the potential to make it to the top.

If he's good enough, he's old enough and that is all that should come into consideration. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a first team regular this season, he shows more maturity on the ball than a lot of the supposed senior players we have and he likes taking risks too. A lot of senior players are in for a rude awakening this year I feel.

He has a lot of strength on the ball, just watch the way he controls the ball from throw-ins, he shields it incredibly well - very hard to knock off it and he's a big lad too and will only get stronger physically.

It's so funny, a week ago I was being laughed at for suggesting that he would get 15 appearances this year, now everyone wants him playing.

That's hilarious

It is when you see how one match has changed a lot of opinions. Glad people are realising how good this kid is though, he's not fazed by anything.

Everyone knows how good he is but his gametime is not just dictated by his own quality.

I get the impression it was people who hadn't watched him much who were sceptical about how he would step up. Those of us who watched him week in week out for the U18 then the U21s last season were more willing to say the S-word.

Correct, but then I bet the same people were screaming that Pogba didn't play even though they weren't watching him for the reserves.

Adnan at a year younger is basically shitting all over anything Pogba was doing in his final year, he needs to play.

Everyone knows how good he is but his gametime is not just dictated by his own quality.

Why isn't it? The only thing stopping him from playing is him. No one is saying he needs to be starting every game, he can still Get appearances from the bench. Everyone can now see for themselves how talented he is, he plays how he did yesterday in virtually every match I see of him.

To be fair with Januzaj, I can't really recall watching him play with him not being one of the best players on the pitch. The kid always stands out, he's clearly too good for the u21s and he's translating his u21 performances to first team level. I'm going to increase how many appearances I think he'll get this year.

I don't care who laughs but I think he can get 20 games this year, he's someone that can be on the bench and come and change things.

I really like this kid. Hope we tie him down to a long-term deal and give him some first team appearances in the cups and off the bench for home games.

 Always amuses me how posters are so eager to big themselves up when it comes to predicting the quality of United youngsters.

Didn't Ferguson say something like "When you see Januzaj" and someone else they look like "first team Manchester United players."?
