Maybe you get a little bit more distance on it but really it's just showmanship.
For the likes of Rooney, Vidic, park this game is ideal. It's just a run out really - absolutely no pressure on them at all.

Rooney played very well.
It travels a lot faster and covers a greater distance if done properly (that throw-in wasn't anywhere near 45°). It's a lot more deadly than Delap's if done properly.What's the point of that throw-in

He did? Thought it was a typical 1st pre-season game from Rooney and not as sharp as the other strikers on their 1st game. I expected him to play longer to get his sharpness up.

I didn't see it. Was it the sort of handstand on the ball type flipping throw?
They can really travel if done right, easily half the length of the pitch.
