Amad Diallo signs for Manchester United

Some geezer told me that he'd quit the cafe if this guy wasn't keeping Martial out of the team by the end of the season

Will have to look back and see what crazy that was.

I very much doubt that many pro players raise their kids themselves tbh. Regarding your second comment. If Greenwood and Diallo can do great on a week in week out basis then I can see them winning a first team role. That would mean some serious competition for first team places in the very near future.
I am sure that footballers despite having all the babysitters and people supporting them in every step, still invest more time in raising their kids than Rashford in his charity. And it’s not like Rashford leads his charity on his own without any help.

Regarding your second point, well Greenwood did very well last season but still hasn’t displaced Rashford or Martial, partly because those two are very good and partly because Greenwood is still a teenager and developing and learning.

Diallo will do very well if he has a first season as good as Greenwood had last season. After that, he would do even better if he maintains his form. Greenwood like a lot of youngsters is struggling in his second season. When people talk about youngsters benching established players they usually compare the best spells of the youngsters to the worst spells of the established players. Competition is great and it will be great for United if Greenwood and Diallo can grow that much that quickly that they can play a lot of games, let alone bench the other two. But in all likelihood this is not going to happen anytime soon as Rashford and Martial themselves will still improve.

Let’s keep expectations low for the kid! Might not even see him until next season.

Where have I said that what Rashford is doing is bad? What he's doing is great and it should be applauded. However professional football is a highly stressful and dedicated job. Gaz used to say that the only way to reach your full potential is to dedicate yourself to it to its entirely. I do worry about whether our kids have fingers in too many pies to be able to fully focus on their career.

Maybe Rashford should copy Mata who focused on the non football related issues at the dusk of his career.

Merry Christmas btw. I tend to have a special place in my heart for my followers. To my shame I thought you were a newbie.

You and Gaz seem stuck in the 90s. It's very possible to focus on multiple things. Gaz's way is not everybody's way. I know that as I am fortunate enough to be mentored by successful people in my field - each with very different approaches.

If rashford copied Mata, there would be more hungry kids in the UK then there already are. It's honestly sickening to think that it would be better if he "focussed on football" rather than helping hungry kids.

I'm definitely not a follower of yours. I just know when I see a post, it will be complaining. That being said - Merry Christmas. I hope that it gives you a little joy as you seem bitter about a lot of things.

you're not a follower? Strange but Ok. Honestly I don't recall ever reading your posts. As said I thought you were some newbie up until I saw when you've joined.

And I am not the one being bitter and hostile towards a fellow poster on Christmas day. Oh well.

Anyway Merry Christmas mate. I hope you will one day be as successful in your field as those who mentored you. Now back to the subject.

It's undeniable that Diallo will be an underdog and its probably better for him to stay on the bench and get introduced slowly in the first team instead. However stranger things had happened in football. RW is indeed a position that need strengthening and our forward line is great but inconsistent. If Diallo has an immediate impact AND Greenwood does well upfront then I can see Ole being tempted to play them both.

I’m hoping this signing will push the others along just as Bruno did when he arrived, not in the same way of course.

Rashford, Martial, Diallo, Pogba, Cavani, Bruno, Greenwood.

If Martial and Greenwood can come into some form which based on last year is a strong possibility then that will be brilliant.

Pogba will no doubt be needed in those front positions if Rashford and Bruno get injured.

If Pogba can do the business when needed then there’s a strong possibility we can win the league and having winners in the side (Pogba WC, Matic PL, Cavani Leagues) will help.

Godspeed x.

The one thing to be wary of is that he is a very young man from Italy, and Italians don't travel well, especially at a young age. There have been a few who have looked very good in Italy but couldn't do squat in England because they just did not feel comfortable.

Im hoping Ole will use Europa Cup to give all the young ones some competitive game time for rest of the season. Lets use it as a 'bench + U23s' squad only until the semi final. If we go out, we go out, but all fans need to be on board with that.

If Marcus Rashford came out tomorrow at 9AM and said that he needed to retire from football to be able to proceed with his charitable work, everyone should applaud him and petition to have a street in Manchester named after him.

Football is a way of life to so many and a great spectacle, but it pales in comparison to the work he's done this past year.

So no, Rashford should absolutely commit himself NOW and long may he continue.

Agreed, but judging by how we’re treating the league cup I can’t see anything but United going for the europa.

That's pretty irrelevant to what I said though. My point is that there are young players there who eats, shits, and breath football. Diallo is probably one of them having come in Italy with asylum seeker's papers and owning the very clothes he was wearing. Rashford is a great man and a decent talent. However unless he puts football as his main priority then someone might come in and take his first team place. It might not happen today or tomorrow but it can happen.

Now we can argue until kingdom come that this is not a distraction for him. The reality is that we don't know. However it should be a concern, at least to the people who are managing him.

That's all.

Well, after watching that video I'll be disappointed if he doesn't end up being at least as good as prime Messi

He was born in the Ivory Coast and only moved to Italy when he was ten so I don't think he'll have problems with moving country like a typical Italian.

We also have a shed load of Ivorians and other West African players as well as a large West African population generally In the UK.

He’ll settle in just fine

This guy makes some quality videos. At a crazy rate as well.

The lad looks mustard in that video. I’m sure the quality of the opposition isn’t first class but you can see he has a lot of potential.

With the right people around him and a good mentality he could be something big ..

Would seem a bit harsh to drop the players that got you to the semis. Unless we find ourselves in a situation where winning it is the only way into next seasons CL I don't think we should waste resources on it at any point.

Strange that hes staying at Atalanta till Jan when they are selling him because they don't play wingers, might be more useful to loan him to a club that will play him, though presumably hes going to come straight into the first team squad in January, so might not be worthwhile just for a few months....

Apparently he was a few months away from an Italian passport, hence stay on to complete paper work and coming in as EU citizen. Luckily application was lodged in before Jan1

I don't think its luck. Woodward's team had anticipated all this because of Brexit -- it would explain the sudden influx of Spanish players. Then now South America kids.

I’m really liking what we are building at the moment. The budding South American value era and we are right there making moves. Same with this guy, as soon as the passport was sorted he’s arrived. I also like that we are still recruiting between transfer windows and getting deals in place early. For me This guy is the most exciting young player we’ve signed since DDG with Caciedo a close second. Good times ahead.

Thats why it's becoming more & more obvious that the remit for Ole from the Board is to rebuild for the medium and long term -- a multi-generational squad -- whilst assuming that he can meet reasonable, progressive results in the short term.

All that Ole Out Brigade and their ''allowing the club's standards to fall'' just don't see the bigger picture. Ole is a foundational manager, an organisational builder of sorts -- he just needs to surround/enhance himself with a better, more innovative coaching staff to elevate the results.

im totally ole in. he’s doing alright, he can do better but I like what he’s building. I can see progress and a foundation to better times.

The question is why he hasn’t done so already? He’s already been here for 2 years.
He's waiting for the top set piece coaching expert to become available.

Ole's doing a fantastic job, the future is very bright at our club.
Long may it continue.

Regarding the set piece specialist, who is it and where did you hear that? Genuinely interesting point.

Ole along with Nicky Butt, from where I'm sat, look to have been transforming the squad both at senior and youth level. I think that became clear last year when Nicky Butt was appointed to his new role. Recently we seem to have been scouting and buying some of the best talent around.

It's a very exciting time to be a United fan, we've almost got a title challenging squad already but with the talents coming through and changes like the one you've mentioned, we could be looking at some more glory years.

Maybe he sees potential in Carrick and has to be patient -- or Woodward is trying to develop a Munich/Ajax model of ex-players involved in the management and coaching?

As mentioned above there are already some strategic foundational changes being done behind the scene. Nicky Butt being the conduit between the Academy and the 1st Team is another structural change. I think there are some serious root & branch restructuring going on.

I expect to see him in the match day squad today.

I dont think he will start any games. If he is that good then it is likely he start getting involved in XI after 2-3 months involvement with the first team. He needs to get familiar who he is playing. Hopefully he get to play in the FA Cup and Europa games coming on as a substitute with us having a good lead 2 or 3-0. Hopefully he makes the RW spot his own for the next season.

Don't be ridiculous. The expectations are way over the top.

Considering the jet-lag and the recovery time, the best we can hope for is a start for the match at Anfield.
