Ander Herrera to PSG? | Gone.

It seems like really bad management to have let his contract run so low, but it's quite possible the player was holding out himself given that not too long ago he wasn't guaranteed playing time under Jose. In fact, he was woefully under used at times.

Hopefully just his agent trying to scare us into giving him a better deal. Seems common enough with Spanish players (remember Sergio Ramos flirting with us right before he signed a juicy new contract).

If not, we’ve really fuct up letting him leave.

Is that supposed to ignore the entire season in which he won United POTY ?

Accolade is hardly prestigious to the element of defining if he's been a success at the club. If anyone here can say that Herrera has been a success at the club in 5 years than that's laughable, understandable that my opinion could be just as humorous to someone else, but when you consider the calibre of midfielders that this club has had in successful eras, Ander falls considerably short.

You're right, it is humorous but at least you're aware.

You are right. Success these past 5 years has meant putting in a shift to most supporters. Not coincidentally, as we’ve played more players who fall under this category, our average position in the table has slipped and we’ve regularly been outside of the top 4.

Herrera, Pogba and DDG all want pay rise and all because that stupid management of putting Alexis Sanchez on such a fecking high salary. Big work needed from the board here, and for me I can exclude Paul Pogba from the list because he is a cnut who's flirting with other clubs.

The statement I put on bold in your earlier post was wrong. That's the point I was mentioning.

Shocking how quickly some are ready to pay this guy Modric/Kroos/Silva/Busquets money. And at the same time discredit posters who think that might not actually be the best idea.

Herrera has always been a strange case to me.
Shows lots of passion and desire and all that, and at times looks a key player, and you wonder how previous managers underused him.

But then sometimes I think he's not creative, doesn't score or assist many at all, and we had to bring Matic in, as he offered more in many eyes.
Is he maybe a little limited to be a key player?

This many years on, I'm still not 100% sure either way.

Nonsense. He is the one player in midfield that give us that element of control. There isn't a single player in the league who is better at dispossessing the opposition, and when in possession, he very rarely gets caught on it. Our midfield needs to be Pogba, Herrera and A.N.Other.

Disagree. He doesnt have the quality. ONLY United fans think he's good enough. 4 or 5 managers for Spain now has ignored him. And their midfield isnt really all that anymore.

If he was anything near what some make him out to he, he's be in the Spain squad...

He's energic and pain in the ass to play against, but his passing and vision isnt top quality

you can't pinpoint everything at the sanchez deal. you have to remember this idiot management team has recently given Shaw, Smalling, Jones 150k wages on 4 year extensions, some of the highest in the league by position. Herrera agent knows this and that's his talking point. He knows his worth, if he is not similar wages to those three clowns he should move on to PSG. This club is a mess.

It's ridiculous to call Smalling and Shaw clowns.

Smalling has been our best defender post SAF. Shaw has done very well this year.

What am I missing here? These reports have already been garbaged as false. He’s about to sign a new united contract.

Dont think hes anything special and WE can and should have better than him as cm.
The problem isnt just him though.
Its the man beside him Matic.
Hes someone we really need to get rid of

None. People are overreacting again. If you take a look at page 1, They were talking as if this had happened.

Totally agree.

You mean like Carrick was largely ignored?

Well to be fair to Shaw he has stepped up and his performances have been good again smalling I don’t have a problem with at the moment he’s as good as we have alongside lindelof it’s the Jones deal that gets me really bothered, the Jones deal is worse than the Sanchez deal because at the time they were fighting with city for him and they thought they were getting a world class player.
The board needed to take a step back when preparing to sit down with Jones and ask what has this guy done to be offered a 4 year contract . The board are pretty clueless at negotiating is the answer.

He's such a cnut but he's our cnut. PSG fans would love his shithousery.

I love Ander, but if we can have Veratti I'd be happy to let him go...

Ultimately this year we should be trying to sign a single midfielder that can do his and Matic's job. Veratti would be one of my picks.

And Herrera is tactically flexible. To me that's massively important, jacks of all trades that are good enough to start are incredibly valuable, you can adapt the game plan to in game events without having to change personnel. That alone should have seen him regularly selected for Spain, I'm not the biggest fan of Sissoko or even Tolisso but Deschamps selecting them objectively makes sense.

I believe Ander is on £75k per week. When Sanchez is on £500k/w, can anyone begrudge him wanting a pay rise?

If Ander comes back from the injury, plays like he did before, gets us into the top 4; what will he be worth then?

Tactically flexible in what sense?

In the sense that he isn't particularly affected by a change of role, he can play as a box to box in a midfield in a midfield two or three and play at a high level, he has played as a DM for Mourinho and Bielsa and performed at a high level, for LVG he was more involved going forward and was charge of covering the right side and he did it well until his injury. Herrera is a player that won't have too much variance in the level of his performances, he doesn't rely on a particular role or instructions.

Agree he is as flexible as they come defensively. But tasked with anything outside of that and he comes up well short. If he’s to remain a featured part of our midfield then we need another alongside Pogba who can hold/turn and carry the ball through midfield and dictate games. We’ve seen when Pogba is marked out of games that we’ve got no response, which falls partly on Matic and Herrera, not one or the other.

The tweet with him spitting on the city badge is hilarious  he's a player that shows true passion for the club he plays, thats why i always liked him. He's a very solid player but he was never worldclass imo. As for ability i would definetly prefer someone like Verrati.

But i can imagine if we let him go we will replace him with pereira, fred, mctominay...not sure thats the way to go.

I don't think Herrera leaving on a free to PSG would mean we'd be fine to go and sign Verratti, he's probably as unlikely to leave as Mbappe.

What? You think Ander would play for Spain in 2008? Being 18/19?
Err no, hence why he didn't play for Spain? You seem to be confused about what point you're trying to make, dear.

Herreras defensive contribution far, far outweighs Matic's, and he does more going forward, too. Unless Matic can significantly step up either his defensive or offensive contribution, or at the very least demonstrate a capacity to dictate play, then he must be replaced come Summer.
