Anderson

To be fair, he was placed on the right wing, which is hardly his ideal position.

He did look very sluggish though. Always a step behind.

It was weird that he was on the right and Cleverley on the left. I'm pretty sure they've lined up like that in other games as well, I wonder why that is. Not that it really matters.

I read....

And I said "Jesus. Judge on him playing with the first 11, and when he's done that he's been excellent".

That you find that strange shows you why I think you're odd. But I'm more than willing to give you a chance to explain why my post was a strange reply to the hyperbole of these posts.

Do you really think if people are saying Anderson is never gonna make it just because of one match?

Haha I really don't understand how Anderson was shit. He could have done better with the final ball but I'm not sure what game you lot were watching.

Easier to cut inside and get a shot off (see Ando vs. Newcastle) and I imagine Cleverley is preferred to protect whoever is at LB, also communication wise Rafael and Anderson are both Brazilian.

I thought tonight and Braga last time around were backwards steps for him. Not very good at all.

I only watched the first half, he wasn't very good. Seemed to lose the ball a lot and generally just not do much positive.

Fletcher wasn't very good either, but his was more to do with being anonymous rather than actually bad. He just wasn't all that involved.

Showed some nice link up play, some skillful touches and has the rare asset for one of our current midfielders, in he can actually step the tempo up and carry the ball at pace in tight areas when nothing else is on, which is something we lack from our other CM options.

However his performances are constantly undermined by his lack of fitness. Whether people argue if he is fat or not doesn't matter, he is definitely unfit and lacks stamina or sharpness. Its so disappointing because it reduces the effectiveness of his ability.

In the first half, no one was complaining about any of our players that I saw. What happened in the second half that changed everyone's opinion? Galatasaray scoring?

There was a reason the passing stats were so low. Galatasaray never stopped pressuring our midfielders. Anderson was one of the few who dealt with their physicality. I don't think he had a great performance but not sure what was shit about it.

I think everyone's being a little harsh. He was inconsistent, not consistently poor. He had some really good moments as well as the underwhelming ones. Fitness allowing, I still want him in a three-man midfield against QPR. But if it has to be two-man, then Cleverley gets in ahead still, this game has only confirmed that for me.

Yeah actually I'm not sure as well. feck this shit, it's 3:30 am in the night. I'm not going to enter a debate about Anderson this time.

Let's just see him again playing in a Premier League game with a proper first 11, I'm not gonna judge how far Ando has come on an away game vs. Gala in which we play a second 11. Personally I think he'll be excellent in his next Prem game playing with Rooney, RVP, Cleverley, Rio, Evra etc etc.

Can we get a breakdown of why he was shite? I'm really trying to understand what people saw.

Didnst see that neither mate. On the other hand you thought Welbeck was decent and I thought he was pretty useless ^^. Many different opinions on players today. Love that :D

Wasted a lot of passes, and the weighting of his passes was off(no pun intended).

Also, smacking three straight corners into the feet of the guy on the first post should automatically bring with it the punishment of the Not Allowed cage for the foreseeable future.

He's never been known for his corner-taking has he though. I did notice the weight of his passes were off at times but I dont think he wasted too many passes. After seeing the comments, maybe we should all watch the match again. So weird to see such a wide variety of opinions on the team's performance. Usually a bit more uniform on this forum.

He had a good patch of play in the 2nd half and looked the most likely to force an opening, then he put those awful corners in and got the hook. Not a great performance but not that bad IMO.

He had three horrid corners and overplayed a ball to Rafael.

Other than that he was quite good I think.

Shocked at the criticism (although not really as this is a United forum).

I thought he was good, and certainly as good as anyone else on the pitch on the night! He always looked to get forward and made some decent passes and attacking moves.

Have a feeling that Anderson is always going to be one of those players that never pleases everyone! He never gets the credit he deserves and always gets more grief than can be justified!

Excellent post KSK, agree with every word.

He wasn't shit, but feck me, if that was a good performance then standards really have slipped. It was okay. Nothing more or less.

Clearly not shit.
I was disappointed he was taken off, thought he might make the difference tonight.

First half we was deployed in wide right somehow, terrible tactics chosen, he barely got the ball and he didn't look like he was up for it.

Second half, reverted back, Danny out wide Anderson dropping deep impacting the game a bit more. Sloppy at times ( but hard to criticise cuz there were some terrible balls by our defenders to put our MF's under pressure ). But he was the one initiating our counter attack once Gala got up and he played well during that 10-20 minute period. Then ran out of gas and was subbed.

To be fair, the ref could have sent 2-3 Gala players off for bad fouls, a two footed lunge on Buttner, Melo did not get a yellow which amazed me, and the Goal scorer dived worse than Suarez.

Credit to the youngsters for putting up a good fight.

*PS. I think its time for Macheda to leave, desparate to make an impact just ran with the ball and lost it 3-4 times in a row when we really needed to hold onto possession.

Hernandez's off the ball play + play out side the box was tremendous, leaps of improvement from his first year and looks a lot stronger.

Yes he wasn't great and perhaps his passing percentage was the lowest of the three midfielders but he at least was trying to break up the Gala defense.

I'd still start him over Giggs in a 2-man central midfield any day of the week. That being said I probably would start Cleverley given the choice, i.e. if he can find the urge too also try a daring pass every now and then. I'm sure Giggs will sort him out though.

Sorry to Giggs whom I admire greatly but I'm still a bit miffed about seeing him starting the game against Norwich. But no, this is not a thread about him or that game.

Reading some the comments after yesterday's game leads me to believe there are a lot of imbeciles on here.

Anderson played well. Nothing outstanding, but he played well. We certainly lacked a thrust once he went off.

Exactly.

Powell and Fletcher were worse imo.

I agree with this.

Fletcher dallied on the ball and lost possession numerous times with aimless long balls (his performance showed why Carrick is so important).

Powell is the strange one. He was bang average, but people seem desperate to rate him as the solution to our problems, so they overrated him. He did okay for an extremely raw and inexperienced player, but no more. His touch was very loose at times.

Very loose indeed. I'm still confused with the comments from yesterday. If I hadn't watched the match myself, I'd have thought Anderson had an absolute stinker.

Ando was better than Powell no doubt, dunno about fletch thought he was pretty good. Ando was generally fine but he didn't seem to have the speed or strength to drive forward from the middle and he doesn't quite have the same passing consistency as clev. But didnt think he was poor by any means. In general though I think each time we've seen the diamond we've lacked a bit of cutting edge, I reckon we should try and modify it to bring in at least 1 winger, although not in the form they're currently in.

People bring their agendas to every thread, and it's never more evident than with Anderson. Honestly, people don't even need to have watched the game to trot out an 'analysis' of his performance - 'fat', 'inconsistent', 'Hollywood balls' (there were barely any, btw). It's just laziness from said posters.

Anderson was the player from midfield that gave us a bit of forward thrust. He was also integral to many of the slick triangles that were played (along with Cleverley and, less so, Powell). It was a good solid performance, given the second string nature of the side, in a dead rubber game, away in a hostile atmosphere. For me, he deserves to be part of a first choice team, and then he'll look even better.

He had a decent game but there were 4 or 5 occasions in the first half when I cringed because Ando hit a pass harder than it was necessary. He was shooting rockets at his teammates, when it should have been simple measured passes. Anderson is still an enigma to me, he seems to posses all the necessary talent but most games you are left wanting more.
