Anderson

He was good. One thing people ask for is for some creativity through the midfield and for someone to make it happen going forward. That's what Anderson does, and obviously doing that means he will lose the ball every now and then. People expect a player like him who tries different things to create chances but not to misplace a pass. It can't be like that. His stamina was ok as well.

Anderson played well. However himself and Giggs are not well suited to playing alongside each other. Both of them like taking risks with their passes and trying to dribble through the opposition. End result, we conceded a lot of dangerous counter-attacks. Against a PL team we would have probably been made to pay.

Giggs and Anderson are very unlikely to play in a two man midfield in any game of importance. Have they before?

Anderson's ideal partner has looked like Hargreaves, from the brief moments we saw them together in 07/08. It looked like a good match. Obviously that's not possible now, but a ball winner to sit and mop up a bit more is what he needs if we are playing 4-4-2. Fletcher could fulfill this, but he also likes to break forward and/or press higher up the pitch.

In the season just gone, himself and Carrick looked as good a partnership as he ever looked when paired up with Hargreaves.

I agree that Fletcher should also work well with him. I'm not sure if it's ever been tried before though?

Yeah, I know they've been used in a midfield three together a few times - just can't remember them ever playing as a pair?

I remember them playing well together in a 4-1 away in Russia in 07/08.

Sure they played as a partnership in the 4-3 Derby as well but I could be wrong. They were definitely the partnership which got a hammering in the Carling Cup last season as well.

Certainly seldom used.

Wasn't impressed with him last night. Thought his passing was off and poorly weighted. His defensive tackling was dreadful. Hope he starts pulling it together more when he's partnered with more helpful partner. Giggs was shocking last night without the ball at his feet. He just couldn't find the game.

He completed 45/50 passes, more than any other United player, and as for their weight, all of our players struggled with the weight of their passes due to the pitch. He completed 1/1 tackles.

Too much sense :nono: He clearly couldnt pass... You know, it's Anderson, he can't pass for shit.

Anderson played well and for the full 90 - not bad for being out of shape and fat coming in huh? Maybe he didn't do a great job with leaving space but, the positive is that in an open game, he was all over the pitch, which should give heart to those that continue harping about his lack of ability to last through a whole game. As pre-season continues, he should hopefully get stronger and fitter.

Regarding him and Giggs - this is exactly what I've been talking about when I say who do we have in our squad that can take Carrick's spot now that Scholes is gone as a sitting CM? As has been highlighted - Fletcher and Ando have not been paired together and I suspect as typically both play higher up the field.

Last night I think was an experiment to see if Ando could indeed play the Carrick role - I'd give him a 4/10 for that. Does anyone think Fletcher can play that role? He'd be good at breaking up play but, just never seen him employed in that position.

Carrick/Anderson pairing have shown signs of being a very good partnership but, there haven't been enough run of games due to either rotation policy or injury to really become consistent.

Overall though am confident even if we don't get any of the CM we've been linked with, that Anderson can step up in the more creative/attacking CM role but, more worried that we don't have anyone to cover for Carrick or even Fletcher.

Edit: Regarding Ando's stats, not sure how they got the 1/1 on tackles but, I know he went in for one where he completely missed and the player went on by - it was a sliding tackle around midfield. There was also one where a Seattle player faked right by him as well. So while he wasn't as perfect in tackling as the stats suggest - he certainly did do a good job in hounding players and working to get the ball back.

That tackling quote can't be right, in the second half he tried slide tackling a Sounders player and completely missed.

As for the passing, it's not just completing passes. His forward passes were the ones not coming off or if they did reach the man, they were fighting for it. We have Carrick who can do the small passes, I expect Anderson to be more forward with his passing and penetrating.

He's our second best central midfielder in my opinion, ahead of Fletcher and Giggs, but last night he didn't do anything where I thought "get in there Anderson".

I got this in an email from the ManUtd site - think I had registered once on for the One United thing

ANDERSON'S TEAM-MATE TALES
United's Brazilian midfielder reveals all about the team-mates he's travelling with on tour...
Who is the best-dressed of your team-mates?
It's difficult to say. Patrice Evra is good. Rio Ferdinand is okay, not bad. Michael Owen is normal.
And the worst-dressed? Some of your colleagues say it is you...
No, I'm a quiet guy. I want to go and relax in flip-flops, shorts and T-shirt. For me, I don't mind. I like to be more relaxed and not wear a tie.
Who is the best player in training?
It depends. Every day one is good, another day, another is bad. The twins work very hard, Ji-sung Park and Ryan Giggs work hard too. These four are the best trainers.
And the worst trainer?
Sometimes it's me! Sometimes it's Kiko [Federico Macheda] or Wazza [Wayne Rooney], it depends on the day.
Who is the best dancer?
Me and Nani are good dancers. Patrice is good. The English guys? Maybe just Rio, probably Wazza is okay.
Who do you play jokes on the most?
Rio, Patrice, sometimes Gaby [Gabriel Obertan]. We all joke together. I joke with everyone, I don't care. Even Sir Alex, I don't mind. Brazilians are happy, they aren't sad, they like everyone to be happy.

See I was wrong and Ando is fat and lazy - he even says he is the worst trainer ... what do I know

"Brazilians are happy, they aren't sad, they like everyone to be happy."

Nice...

Anderson believes Manchester United have enough quality in their squad to cope without the retired Paul Scholes.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be keen on bringing in a new playmaker to help fill the void left by Scholes' departure.

The likes of Wesley Sneijder, Samir Nasri and Luka Modric have all been linked with big-money moves to Old Trafford, but as yet Ferguson has not brought in a replacement for Scholes.

Anderson for one is hoping to step up to the mark to show Scholes can be replaced in United starting XI.

"Scholes was amazing, a legend, but it means more opportunity, more space for me," Anderson told Sky Sports News.

"Scholes was one player where I learn a lot, he was unbelievable and for me the best midfielder in the world.

"I think Scholes was very important for the team as he had amazing quality, but I think everyone together can take his position."

That's the third player to say this.Sounds to me that there will be no new signing in this position this window.

What he said there had no relevance to our transfer window activity in my eyes.

Yep, massive season for the lad coming up.

I really hope he grasps this opportunity to nail down a permanent first team place. If he doesn't this season then I fear he never will.

I wasn't aware we were using our midfielders as agents when trying to sign players.

Makes sense, would explain why we have failed to sign decent central midfielders for some time

Where can I watch the full interview with Anderson? His english has improved a lot, seems more mature also. Sky sports only showed a snippet of the interview would like to see the full thing!

Anderson can become a big player for us, if things improve in the right areas we will have a massive player in our ranks. Just needs the things which comes with games, the brain and the consistency.

Since judgement was being made on his fitness from previous pics - this latest one makes him look super fit and in shape ...

I agree that Fletcher should also work well with him. I'm not sure if it's ever been tried before though?

The only problem I see with that partnership is that Fletcher in the past year or so seems to chase the ball very high up the pitch. Neither of them naturally sit deep like Carrick, although Fletcher could probably adapt if thats what tactics dictate.

From Scholes' latest interview:

For his part, Scholes says he won’t be too bothered if a new midfielder doesn’t arrive.

''The players already at the club have got the chance to go on and stake big claims,'' he added.

''Everyone knows the talent Anderson has got.

Attributes

''He can be a bit erratic at times but you forget he is still a young lad. But he is one who could have a massive part to play this season. He is in that category of playmaker. He can do that.

''Hopefully, with a bit more concentration, he can also score more goals as well. He has got the attributes. He has struggled with injury but if he has a good pre-season under his belt and be as professional as he can be, he should be a top class player''

The bolded part is the key to Anderson becoming a consistently good player for us.

Replacing me? It's no big deal for Manchester United, says Paul Scholes | Manchester Evening News - menmedia.co.uk

Played well this morning, wasn't rushing passes, was making himself open all the time and made runs from midfield. Signs of maturity are there. Would love to know how many passes he made and how many he completed, where can i get these stats?

Interesting that Scholes thinks he's a playmaker. I wouldn't have put him in that bracket anymore.

he was quite good last night. Rooney put one on a plate for him and his finish was quick and cool.

if he keeps this up he'll have a great season.

Park was immense, too.
