Angel Di Maria | Performances | Wife: "He only joined United for money. The food was disgusting. The women look like porcelain"

4 goals and 12 assist for us , despite barely playing. We should have kept him till Jose Mourinho came , he would have know how to use him better.
What made his assists stat so impressive is that, like you say, not only did he not play that much due to injuries and being dropped at the end of the season, he was working with a past it Rooney, a past it RvP, an unfit Falcao and an out of his depth Wilson up front and was still joint top in the assist chart (with Fabregas I think).

I don't think we should've kept him, though. Before he left he was one of my favourite players in the world during his last season at Madrid and 1st bit here, but he clearly didn't want to be here and was half-arsing it big time.

Irrespective of how things went here, the guy is a top class player and shows it more often than not.

I was convinced he would become a great player here.

He's very clinical. Put him out on the pitch and he will always put a shift in and get a goal or an assist.

Absolutely mental we used to play Ashley Young ahead of him and people defended it.

LVG's worst decision this.

He was a good player and actually effecting matches. Just because he tried a few risky passes he couldn't hack it. Only zombie crap football allowed.

If he'd have stayed 1 more year and played with Martial, Pogba, Rashford etc it could have been SO,SO different.

Really wish we got the best out of him when he was here. We had him but couldn’t convince him to stay after the break-in. LvG’s management of him was also utterly horrible. Wouldn’t mind having him on Sanchez’s wages instead of Sanchez himself. Borderline world class when he’s properly managed and i’m not overrating him

He started well but was never really committed enough to the task at hand to bounce back after facing setbacks. He never wanted to be here and got out of here the first chance he got. No need to blame the club or LvG for this.

There was still that moment after we went 3-1 up against Leicester where you felt we could destroy any team. Course, that feeling last 10 minutes.

Absolutely mental we used to play Ashley Young ahead of him and people defended it.
And then we played him ahead of Memphis. We love our hard working players in this club. Actual players with talent are marginalized and suffocated.

How is he a ‘bottler’? What did he actually bottle? He didn’t want to be here, fair enough, that’s more due to Louis van Gaal than anything else.

That was the period when we destroyed Spurs, City and Liverpool in a row. LVG's best run of matches with us. I don't get why people should not have defended this. The plan was working, and Young was putting on a good performance, regardless of Di Maria's quality.

LVG did a loads of mistakes regarding Di Maria including playing him as a striker at one point which was mental, but during this period it was fun for me as his plan was working.

Because di Maria is so far ahead of Young as a footballer it isn't funny. LvG completely mishandled the situation with him from the start.

What talented players are marginalized?

What it matters is the plan on pitch was working and the sum was bigger than the parts, not who has more quality than whom.

Though I agree he mishandled Di Maria the majority of time here but during this certain period it's illogical imo to complain about Young playing ahead of Di Maria while we were destroying City and Liverpool at Anfield and we looked like to have finally a proper team.

Because Di Maria didn't want to be here and his performances reflected that.
It's about time we stop judging our players on name alone, nobody has a given right to play for United.

That word has lost all meaning on this forum.

If we judge player based on whether they want to be here or not , then we should get rid of Paul Pogba because that guy clearly didn't want to be here. Meanwhile the likes of Pereira , Shaw , Lingard all want to be here despite not being good enough to carry Manchester United to glory. This says a lot about how far we have fallen and how we no longer can attract world class player. It's all about the money , PSG came and meet Woodward valuation of Di Maria while no one wants to pay Pogba's valuation.

Rat on fire tonight.

 State of this snake.

The state of his wincing weasel face when he hits the barriers warms the heart.

Or his face a few weeks later when we knocked them out. Spoilt for choice.

Hopefully the faux-Galactico thing we were trying is truly dead. Real and PSG can get a way with it because continental players and South Americans like Madrid and Paris, but we need players who like eating pies who don't mind a bit of rain.

feck Di Maria obviously, but he never wanted to come here so it was no surprise he didn't adjust.

He's an amazing player and he's showing his true form again for Paris (he's arguably been their most consistent performer this season), but his behaviour really leaves you no option of liking him.

Agree with this, his ability was never in question, it was his attitude.

Never really understood what it was? that United did to upset him so much while he was in Manchester.

Think it was the fact he never really wanted to be here in the first place.

Then he ended up playing with a shite team, got loads of stick from the press and then the buglary which seemed to be the final straw.

It's a shame really as he's probably one of the most talented players we've ever had, LVG was just the wrong coach for him, god knows why we decided to pursue him if all he wanted was a high passing percentage.

“Burglary”

He scored one of the best Utd goals in the past 10 years (the chip against Leicester) but he blatantly looked like he didn’t give a feck when he was here. His last appearance against Hull where it looked obvious he was faking a injury 20 minutes in and subbed off was ridiculous from memory.

I hope the club has learnt from that experience. Us with Dybala last summer seems to be evidence of that.

I do have sympathy with him as he was burgled mid season and think his family were in the house. If you're not enjoying living in city/country you'd want to get out as soon as possible.

Beyond that all I can remember from him on the actual pitch was the chip on his debut (Leicester) and sort of pushing the ref v Arsenal. Think LVG pretty much disowned him after that.

What's it say? Because for some reason tweets never show up for me (@Niall why is that)

Possibly a browser extension interfering with it? Are you using adblock? That can sometimes block embedded media, although usually it's videos from streamable and the like.

Be in Manchester.

He never wanted to be here and when he was we played some horrible crap and had no idea how to use him. We signed him off the back of a season where he played as a hybrid Winger/Centre midfielder and we played him all over the place. I remember his quality standing out from the rest of the team the first few games. Reminds me of the reaction to Fernandes currently now I think about it. He acted a twat but it was a complete mess of a transfer.
