Did someone actually try and put Valencia on par with Robben? On top form, the lad's good value but blimey, we really hit the two extremes on here.
In a year we absolutely ran away with the title and may get a record amount of points. With Ferguson insisting on playing him so much, you kind of get the idea the Sir Alex gets something that the footballing geniuses here don't.
Or that all defenders in the league have simultaneously worked him out and there's no going back from here...Confidence and mentality is all there is to it, he'll hopefully sort out both over the pre-season and be back to normal.
This is never a sufficient argument as to the importance or use of a player to be fair. Valencia has played so much simply because our other wingers have been equally poor or frozen out. There's also the likelihood that Fergie has tried to show loyalty to a player that has no doubt deserved it.
What remains is that Valencia has been by and large fairly ineffective, and that anything he has offered defensively is nothing that a whole host of other players could've done. Don't like being that blunt about a person with the class of Valencia but there's no point beating around the bush regarding his form this year. It's not been good - we've won the league despite our wingers and not because of them.
Yes, we'll probably take the most difficult league in the world by a good 15 points despite our wingers, despite our midfield etc etc. Would be nice to hear Ferguson's take on this. It really would.

At least last night should put an end to the ridiculous argument that Valencia "has lost a step or two" - just as fast as ever and just as bloody strong.
It's just so reductive to go "well, Alex Ferguson picks so and so and we won the league therefore everything and everyone must've been brilliant". It's such a limited analysis.
Also, remember this?

I love physical football as much as anyone, but that's just a foul
Never thought he'd lost pace. He came back from his broken leg as quick as ever, remember that sprint against Liverpool that resulted in Glen Johnson colliding with his own man, then sprinting after Tony and giving away a penalty?
The loss of form and confidence though has been something to behold.

Debatable. They start off shoulder to shoulder and that last wee shove only happens because Baines is grabbing hold of his arm. Six of one.
A foul? Literally nobody in the world thought so at the time.
The giveaway is the bit where he runs away from the path of the ball, directly into the defender, and then pushes him over with his arm.
It's probably the worst argument I've read on here. Basically, because we are on course for a records point season and we've already wrapped up the league, that means every single decision Fergie has made is correct, and that all of our players played amazing throughout the season? It's fecking bizarre.
Why would you choose to look at the points tally to work out and justify Valencia's form/season, over say.....Valencia's form throughout the season?
Because its two players tousling for the ball and one winning? Both players were trying to use their strength to win the ball and one won.

Yeah, he really beasts defenders when the mood takes him. The lead up to the Kagawa miss is a great example of this.
It really is a blatant foul.
Which was fine until he moved himself over three yards in order to knock Baines away.
Because Valencia was faster and stronger than Baines? Nah - I remember Nani being fouled for a similar incident. Even the commentator said that was totally rubbish as he was just stronger! If anything, Valencia is ahead of Baines and Baines tries to foul him. It's not basketball you know.
Despite it being obvious that Baines was trying to pull him away with his arm? He is clearly pulling him away from the ball. If Valencia had gone down he would undoubtedly got a free kick and likely Baines a booking.
I have never even heard this opinion until today, it's always, in my Eyes been seen as a great example of his abilities. Strangely, one person today proclaims it as a foul and them the usual gang latch on to it.
Looks to me like there is a significant enough pull after the first contact between the two players for that to be called against Luiz. If you look at Valencia's left shoulder when he's running towards the camera, he's pulled off balance before then pushing Luiz away.
I don't know how that would work in terms of the rules though because I'd say it's clearly a foul by Valencia after that. It'd go foul - advantage - foul then bring it back to the original one by Luiz wouldn't it?
Can you not see him literally sticking his entire arm out to push Baines away? Foul.
No because he intentionally moved his entire body three yards over to knock Baines to the ground. He didn't need to do that, he had him beat long before he did it. Jesus Christ, it's such a blatant foul.
