Arsenal v Man Utd

We should play the team that has done so well in the last couple of months, our strongest team and that is:

-------VDS---------
Gary-Rio-Vida-Evra
Ron-Scholes-Carrick-Giggs
-----Saha----Rooney

Park and Larsson can come on if needed. Larsson had only 2 games so far, shouldnt get the nod instead of Rooney or Saha.

I'm not so confident about that game, nervous as usual, I go for a draw 1-1

Good points. Go for the tried and tested for this one. Our bench then looks better than its done all season. A draw would be a reasonable result although there's really no reason why we can't get the win.

Normally you're both expected to win so it's just catchup. Here if Chelsea get a good result you need to match them in a game that you're not favourites to win.

Evens itself out over the course of a season

You lot seem to be desperate for Chelsea to beat us to the title

Which I like :D

Tough call about who to start between Larsson and Saha. We looked wonderful with Larsson for the first 20 minutes or so vs. Villa, and Saha didn't look good at all when he came on. But if you don't start Saha, you'd really be fuking with his head and that could set him back in the future.

My team:

VDS

Nev Rio Vidic Evra

Ronnie Carrick Scholes Giggs

Saha Rooney

Subs: PIG, Brown, Heinze, O'Shea, Larsson

Tough call with the subs as well, would love to have Ole in there maybe at Heinze's expense? But that is sort of asking for trouble should anything happen to Evra. I really don't wanna see O'Shea at LB.

2-1 United (Cesc, Giggs, Saha)

:D

For me Larsson has to start ahead of Saha. We will get bugger all clear-cut chances as it will be very tight. We will have to be able to take whatever half chances come our way. For me Larsson has the intelligence and quick mendedness to do this - Louis does not. 1-0 Larsson !!

Rooney loves to score against Arsenal!!!

he is hungry for goals and this one is a huge game... i think rooney will make something special this one... go with saha and rooney upront...

Forgot that Gilberto is suspended for this as-well. That is a big bonus for Utd.

I'd start with Rooney and Saha, with both of Solskjaer and Larsson on the bench.

Depending on how the game go on, I'd bring on both of them.

it's wierd, but i wouldn't be surprised if liverpool beat chelski and we then dropped points due to overconfidence.

we could be really on our games if we need a result, say if chelski have won already..

I think we'd all rather risk overconfidence than bank on being on our game if chelscum win.

I've yet to come across a pundit that rates United to win this match! Good - I like it when we're the underdogs.

According to the Beeb, this is the 200th competitive match betwen United and the Arse. Mike Riley's the ref so we might get a penalty!

I don't know if its the right forum, I found this on a 'arse forum' thought it was a good artical.
In the years since Roman Abramovic’s money stormed into our beloved sport the comment has often been made by both fans and members of the media that this is good for the game. The main reason given for this is that it broke the boring ‘duopoly’ that previously existed between Manchester United and Arsenal. This article will demonstrate that this is a comment born out of either a superficial appreciation of the beautiful game or a poor memory regarding the period in question, it is, i suspect, a combination of the two.

This Sunday we will all be treated to Arsenal vs Manchester United at the Emirates stadium and most pundits and fans seem to be in agreement that these are the two best footballing sides in the league. Indeed this has alway been the case and the amount of epic games the two teams fought against each other was anything but boring. What Arsenal fan does not remember the fantastic football played by both sides in the 1999 FA Cup Semi-Final or the exciting 3-2 win at Highbury. The fact is if you are a true football fan this was surely the height of contentment. Two attractive skillful teams playing attacking football with an intense and heated rivalry is a football fans eutopia. Contrast that to now; Manchester United and Arsenal remain the most enjoyable to watch while Chelsea are so boring they can not even fill their home stadium despite being back-to-back champions and having the most expensively assembled squad in footballing history.

Indeed memories sem to be somewhat foggy for most people about these years and this is a sign of the revisioinist nature of hindsight. Yes, during the years 1998-2004 only Manchester United and Arsenal were ever champions but this does not mean that at the time we only thought those two could win it. Just as now we know that the Allies triumphed in World War Two it does not mean that the family hiding in bunkers and living off rations in 1940 were entirely confident and carefree. In 2002 Liverpool finished second and United third, before then Leeds were a force to be reckoned with topping the table for months at a time. Similarly Newcastle and Chelsea fans were adamant at several points that their team would be the one to lift the title. These title races were very exciting!

Perhaps these journalists are forgetting the column inches they filled with Wenger-Ferguson mind games, the physical battles that Vieira and Keane entertained us with or the Van Nistelrooy-Henry debate. For the true football fan these are days to be fondly remembered. The type of fan that prefers the current climate is one which gets most of his enjoyment out of controversial characters such as Jose Mourinho and transfer gossip. The former is often said to have made the premiership more exciting due to his attitude in press conferences! If you ask me a manager makes a league more exciting by how his team plays on the pitch and this man’s team bore me to tears! Mourinho has made the premiership dull by using an unlimited transfer budget to create the dullest team in history. As for transfer gossip, for the new football fan this seems to have become more interesting than actual football matches, yes Benitez and Mourinho buy ridiculous amounts of players but this is not enough to entertain me.

Overall we must be thankful that in the Arsenal-United era the richest team in the premiership did not always win it, now it seems like this is the case again. For this, and other true football fans, the Arsenal-united "Duopoly" was fantastic and the match on Sunday is still the best of the year.

agreed but we will still win 0-3

Playing Arsenal has always been the ultimate match for me, ahead of Liverpool and City. THeres just something about playing them, and the hatred is there for everyone to see.

United will win though, and by doing that, push all the way to getting our trophy back.

A good article.....difficult to disagree

Arsenal are no match for us at the moment.we will beat them comfortably. They dont have that little pitch anymore so they cant get from one end to the other in 2 passes anymore.

Diaby

Anyone think Diaby will get the nod over Flamini?

He's recovered from his broken leg, got some minutes against the dippers and will give l'Arse that bit of steel they need in midfield. He's built like a brick shit-house.

Wouldn't put it past Wenger to pull a fast one. He's often gone for strange team selections against us.

I always get so nervous for this game...these games tend to be so intense and heated, I just love it!!!

ive reassessed my earlier prediction. I now think we are going to got an absolute gubbing. I have no idea why, it is just a feeling I have. three nil to the arse.

I hope your wrong, but this game does worry me some. Just for the fact that we have a hard time keeping clean sheets. We have been allowing goals, luckily we have been scoring goals. The Arse can score, and they have alot of confidence right now. One good thing is Gilberto is out and he has been very good for them. I hope we can take advantage of the Chelski loss.

In the 99 semi final Arsenal played very poorly if I recall correctly. They equalised with a deflected Bergkamp shot from miles out.Even when we went down to ten men they didn't play that well.Other than that the article is right.

Often these games don't live up to the hype because the teams cancel each other out.If Rooney comes on to form and the rest of our team play like the first 35 mins against Villa then it could be a superb game.Arsenal are playing really well at the moment.Either way we will still be at least six points clear.;)

Hope a good result for us

Exactly, and bring on Larsson with 30 minutes to go if we need a goal or two.

Larsson Rooney
Giggs Carrick Scholes Ronaldo
Evra Vidic Ferdinand G.Neville
Van der Sar

Subs; Kuszczak, O'Shea, Park, Saha, Fletcher or Ole.

I hope Larsson starts, he's been excellent since he joined us.

No he will play Flamini

Diaby is not yet match fit

Yep, Flamini willl start. His running power will be useful against two largely static Man Utd midfielders. Diaby may be a big lad but he's a ball-playing, passing midfielder not an enforcer.
We'll see...

largely static you say, but would pass any team in this world of the park, including your team and thats whats gonna happen on sunday. we have ronaldo, rooney, saha and giggs to do all the running, more than enough

Probably SAF will go for 4-5-1 again, and CAF will be mad about it. I don't like it too.

Park--Giggs--Carrick--Scholes--Ronaldo

Evra-----Vidic-----Ferdinand-----Neville
