Arturo Vidal

It's all falling into place nicely 50m Euros is roughly £39m, £37m+£2m for Evra.

I don't think we're lowballing anyone just sending a general 'we still won't let you take the piss despite rolling in it' warning to everyone.

If they want €40m and we're not willing to pay that then it's lowballing because he's easily worth that. It's just paper nonsense though, as I've said, because if Juventus asked us for €40m we'd pay that.

Given the fact that Juventus are set to sign Iturbe for £22m and Morata for £14m I think they'll have to sell players as their income isn't sufficient to fund transfers like that. It's Pogba or Vidal and they'd probably rather sell a 27-year old whose value is going to drop significantly over the next two years than a 21-year old midfielder who's widely recognised as one of the best in his position and will only get better and more expensive in the next few years.

Initial bit of reliable reporting have suggested always that Juve would indeed sell one of the two for a good price. For United's sake, I hope other top clubs do not show interest in him for whatever reasons(unlikely). Getting into a bidding war is not something i look forward to. I think they have debts too and with Morata and Iturbe imminent, it would seem logical they would require money. Remember though Juve is the only Italian club who haven't sold any big name players for the past 4/5 years. I'm looking at their outgoing transfers, are they releasing anyone on big wages? They were after Sanchez and baulked at the price and now he is gone. It would almost be worse for them now to lose on Vidal and not get their primary targets either.

Same thing right before the Shaw and Herrera deals....the media knows that the more they freak us out is the more clicks they get.

Use your common sense people, Shaw cost 30m, Mata 37m and Herrera 30m. You all think we would bat an eyelash at 32m or whatever the quoted price is...AND we just announced a 750m deal with Adidas.

IF we do not go for Vidal, it will not be because of a £34m asking price.

Exactly

Had an idea it'd be too good to be true.

Looks like this emmet fella needs to get new contacts

Still confident we'll get another 2 signings in before the window closes.

Somehow I just can't see the Madrid fans every being as worried about Pulling off the Bale deal.
"I just don't think we've got the clout to land Tottenham's best player" said no Madrid fan ever.

That's not really the point though, despite the negotiations being very public, it took Barcelona a good 10 days to come to an agreement with Liverpool despite it being obvious Liverpool were keen to sell and Suarez was desperate to leave.

Despite Bale being desperate for a move to Real, they didn't land him until the final day of the transfer window.

I just think it's worth remembering that when people like @marukomu say "it's taking too long, it's not going to happen".

If the timeline could be established from all the pieces that have come out so far, we spent last week using Evra discussions to start talks about Vidal. We've got Vidal open to the move and his agent is encouraging it now too and over the last few days we have been haggling, they are trying to see what they can get out of us while we are trying to see if we can use Evra and now Vidal's willingness to leave as a way of keeping the figure down.

It's all classic stuff for a transfer of a player of his stature. They aren't going to give him up without at least looking like they are putting up a fight while we don't want to suddenly be viewed as a club with so much money that we will pay whatever figure the selling club set.

Many British papers are saying we're not ready to spend 34m on him.

People still believe the Dail Mail and Mirror after all the shite they've spouted over the years. It's clear they're trying to squeeze every last click off United's desperation for the player.

I think Vidal is almost nailed on to go this Summer. I'm happy with the fact that Madrid are actively pursuing Kroos as that'd leave no space for Vidal - unless they sell Modric in which case I'd gladly welcome him at United. Barcelona probably don't have the funds to go after Vidal now that they've signed Rakitic and especially Suarez. He won't go to Bayern out of loyalty towards Bayer Leverkusen plus I don't see him as a player Pep would endorse greatly.

He'd get into any team in the world with ease. I just hope that Chelsea or City won't come into equation or Arsenal don't make a move because realistically all of them could to with a player of Vidal mould and with the exception of Arsenal could probably match our offer at the minute.

I cant see this not happening now. even after this mornings headlines.
I think he will be a United player in 2 weeks time.

The media don't know what else to write. Any story they print about us is guarenteed to sell papers.
Vidal is very much on.

We also didn't need Mata but we bought him because you dont pass up on those things, Kroos should have been a United player. He will and is the new scholes and will run games. Sure we need vidal but that isn't happening, we already had the groundwork of this done.

I would say Mata was a desperate buy by Moyes attemping to revive our season.

Was it the Daily Mail that lied about the Pogba interview?

Well feck, why has nobody else made such comparisons?

Because every year at United we miss our main targets and we're used to that.

I refuse to believe in Vidal to United because it's United, because we've not CL and because since the first rumor it's now a long time. Arsenal signed sanchez in a week or so in comparison

We should think to a backup solution with Khedira instead being forced to play Carrick-Cleverley this year

Kroos is an outright playmaker while Herrera is more of a technically gifted box to box type, can make the play and create chances but is also good at tracking back and can run all day, he can also play as number 10.

So exactly what we needed if you ask me.

Yeah let's stick our new 30m signing on the bench. You know, the deal we got wrapped up extremely quick with the player the Daily Mail said we weren’t in for.

They really did not. Maybe they've kept it quiet for a little bit longer but you don't sign a player in a matter of week usually.

Why the hell would we play Cleverley when we have Herrera? People need to stop pretending we haven't addressed midfield issue. We have, we just need one more player to have a properly good midfield.

You're starting to crack.....Addidas dont invest in something so big without assurances on the football side. The club will be going for the best talent and Vidal falls into that category. Its early days yet. But for a reported 32-35m price tag he could be the most undervalued player this summer.

I know this probably isn't going to happen and I'm doing a reasonable job at not getting my hopes up. But at the same time I cant shake the feeling that this might happen just because we so badly need it to. We need a player of his ilk to get back to where we need to be on the pitch. And, almost as important, it feels like the club is equally convinced it needs to be seen to be making these kinds of signings.

Its a balancing act because as people have pointed out we dont want to be publicly fleeced by Juve. But if the choice is one between being seen to overpay (and let's face it, that is a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted considering the Shaw deal), and being seen to be only competing for second tier players, the latter is probably more damaging to a club that wants to be seen as one of the biggest in the world. Which surely is at the centre of the commercial strategy.

I dont know. All I can say is I feel more confident than I have any right to be.

Spot on.

Remember the Mail went MASSIVE on Kroos, said we had signed him and had several articles predicting how he will fit into Utd. I distinctly remember reading an 'analysis' from Keown saying it was a great signing etc etc. 2 hrs later everything was denied.

They have also placed Khedira at Arsenal, Chelsea now Arsenal again.

This thread was started 5 days ago, it's hardly been a long transfer saga at all. There were murmurs that we might like him but the ball has only just got rolling in terms of an actual transfer apparently being discussed so it's not even been Sanchez's "week or so" yet despite their being pressure on that deal to go through because of the Suarez transfer (which took much longer than a week despite it being in the interest of player and both clubs to get it done).

"Being forced to play Carrick and Cleverley" we've already signed Herrera to remedy that.

Stop using this idiot comparison, Arsenal signed a player they were an admirer of previously, the club wanted to sell and Arsenal and the selling club weren't far off in valuation/price, that's a completely different situation to Vidal/ United

If anything this transfer to me feels like the Van Persie one. Too many rumblings of the club and player being interested in making the move happen while the selling club denies it before it finally happens for a surprisingly reasonable fee.

Barcelona wanted to get rid of Sanchez and Cesc hence why their transfers were done quickly. Vidal is still on holiday for another week at least, and Juve dont want to get rid of him as much as Barca did with their players.

Wasnt it the Daily Mail that said Kroos was set to sign to United earlier this year? Its so annoying to see people come in here and make it look as if DM dont print bullshit. For god sake the same paper said he was set to sign "imminently" yesterday...

If we get 2 box-to-box midfielders this window, I can envisage us playing a traditional 4-4-2 in a lot of games, with Valencia finally getting the ammunition to return to his best on the right.

Is this actually happening? Just that the "Khedira to Arsenal" one sounds more definite and that one emerged much later than ours. Also, the only story that has been corroborated by more than one source is the latest one that it's off.
