Arturo Vidal

I simply can't fathom why we wouldn't pay the asking fee for one of the best players in the world, so either our interest wasn't that strong to begin with or he doesn't want to move. I'm sure Woodward would be desperate for a marquee signing like this.
Thing is, we have no idea if the actual asking fee is £35m. It's just speculation by the media. I might me £55m for all we know, and I doubt United - even with that brand new Adidas money coming in - would pay that for Vidal.

Likely to be a haggling tactic, or that Juve are simply refusing to budge.

Or the story might be total bullshit altogether.

 Is the deal really off? I would be suprised if the reason is because Van Gaal is not interested. It has to be because we already bought Herrera and we are looking for a number 6 to complement him rather than another number 8.

Why are fans on here suddenly becoming pessimistic? As a City fan, it's only now that the Daily Mail and the Express are reporting that it isn't happening that I'm actually beginning to worry. Seriously, they are utter shit.

Because people love to scaremonger.

Hopefully it's van Gaal messing with the press but obviously it's not good to hear just in case it is genuine. We do need Vidal and it's ridiculous for anyone to think we would turn our noses up at getting him for £34m when we just paid a similar amount for an 18 year old.

Just got to hope it's us trying to get the price down but if we won't pay it someone else will so it would be rather frustrating to say the least. Still holding out hope but after the positive rumours earlier on and to go to it's suddenly off is pretty disappointing. Will have to just wait and see now, if those articles are accurate though then we're probably trying to get Schweinsteiger as some were reporting a while back.

If the deal is off, we still have cleverly fellaini Anderson and fletcher to choose from, not so bad

Or maybe the reports are a load of rubbish

Same thing right before the Shaw and Herrera deals....the media knows that the more they freak us out is the more clicks they get.

Use your common sense people, Shaw cost 30m, Mata 37m and Herrera 30m. You all think we would bat an eyelash at 32m or whatever the quoted price is...AND we just announced a 750m deal with Adidas.

IF we do not go for Vidal, it will not be because of a £34m asking price.

So Vidal says that we're talking to him, but the Mail says its off. Im conflicted guys.

Why do I get dragged into these failed transfers every summer! Every year after we fail to sign our "main target" I say I'm not gonna get dragged into any more rumours but inevitably it always happens.

Vidal said he heard the rumours and that he will sort his future in Italy. Not that we are talking to him.

"I am already at a huge club, Juventus, which relaxes me should the Man United option fall through"

An option not a rumour.

Also, dont want to get anyone excited but this is what LVG said about Vidal before Holland played Chile in the world cup. Read that and tell me if you think LVG would call this move off...

I don't know if it's been posted already, but this guy was the first to report RvP. So many contrasting reports I don't think anyone knows what's gong on tbh.

I've read some article on an Italian Juve site (don't know anything about the credbility) but they were claiming United didn't want to meat Juventus valuation which was at £48m rather than the reported £34m I see everywhere.

That would make a hell of a lot more sense, even though I still think we should go for it.

He will certainly play like a 50M pound player at least. Injuries aside (luck), its pretty much one of the safest bets to take. You just know Vidal will take this league and make it his own right away.

dont fecking do this to me Louiiiii!!!

Player valuations arent just based on what they bring to the pitch. 50m is a lot of money to pay for a player still.

Van Gaal rivals Wenger when it comes to not spending. He prefers to promote from within and improve players. Bayern had to pretty much force him to sign players and he out right refused to take Neuer, preferring to promote a rookie keeper.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he pulled the plug on Vidal.

That's all very well and good and if I'm honest there is nothing better I like to see than a player rise through the ranks but sometimes you have to buy and at the moment there isn't any one in the youth/u21 who is good enough to step up and fill the hole in midfield.

As he did with Kroos for instance.

With united nothing surprises me, mr certain kroos

Would be delighted if this fell through because van Gaal has identified other midfield talents for cheaper prices.

Yea me to, £28.5 m for Herrera, £30m for Shaw, £27.5m for Fellaini and £37.5m for Mata, but oh noes £48m for one of the best allround midfielders in the world that is impossible, especially since we will now be earning atleast £128m in shirt revenue alone for the next 10 years...

Hopefully it is just a way to try and lower the price a bit but not us pulling out of the deal. Honestly I don't know if trying to lower the price would work on this one as I think Juventus simply prefers to keep Vidal and us pulling our hands off is exactly what they want to achieve. Imo we should just pay whatever it takes, Vidal would make all the difference in the world, he is all round midfielder that you don't come across to often anymore. Technicaly strong, very good positioning, good passing, great work rate, scores alot for a midfielder and most importantly he is a true warrior that will fight for victory to the bitter end. It is not for nothing Juve fans are dreading this deal so much, they know he is vital to their team and that he can't be replaced. If we can pull this off by paying over the odds, than pay it goddamnit, this is the kind of player that doesn't come around every year and will make all the difference in the world if you sign him or not. There literally is no alternative for him on the market.

Yeah I know but I'm just saying, if we have pulled out of this deal and didn't fancy Kroos in favor of promoting someone from the youth then who is it?
Not necessarily from the youth team... Maybe Louis sees something he can mould in Cleverley.

Crafton is usually well sourced so I'd say its off.

Although I doubt it was ever on in the first place.

Just because we've signed a new kit deal it doesn't mean we should spend ridiculous sums on players. Good on van Gaal/United if they've put their foot down. Almost £50 mill on a 27 year old player is ridiculous, no matter how many other clubs I dukge in this sort of spending.

There isn't anybody, that is the problem, if LVG really doesn't want to sign players because he wants to work with academy products, than we are fecked in the midfield. There are no good real midfielders at the club, I'd be fine with it on the wings, I'd be fine with it at the back, and I'd be fine with upfront, but if LVG is reluctant on us signing Vidal than we should intervene as a club and force the move and pay whatever we need to pay to get it done. Vidal is just everything we have needed for years now, missing out on that because we want to work with unexisting midfield talents from the academy is the kind of stuff that we should really be avoiding.

They are saying United baulked at the asking price of around 34 million pounds...

I think he has an eye on Strootman in January, which would be a pretty big risk. There's no guarantee that he'll recover in time by then, and we could be struggling by then anyway. There's still a while to go but it's worrying.

You can't turn shit into golden turds, that is like saying I can get one piece of bread and feed a family of 10
