AS Roma vs. Manchester United

Usually we get a few more games to showcase our youngsters. Though we got knocked out of the Carling Cup and drew a premiership side in the FA Cup. I think the youngsters will be up for this.

My concern is Rooney getting a red card and being out for the knock out round. If the team is not doing well and Roma are winding him up he could blow a fuse and do something stupid.

I'm sure Fergie has taken that into account. Maybe well get to see DingDong if Rooney starts getting feisty..

the only thing that worries me is any injury to the likes of Brown, Carrick, Rooney and Saha...in such an academic match.

Truth but we really have NO other players you know... Roma is in the same position as we are so I'm sure that they don't want the likes of their hit players to pick up an injury.

This is the squad we've taken out to Rome.

Kuszczak
Heaton

Eckersley
Cleverley
O'Shea
Evans
Chester
Pique
Brown
Simpson
Lee

Nani
Hewson \o/
Carrick
Fletcher
Eagles

Dong
Brandy \o/
Saha
Rooney

-----------------------

I reckon team of:

Kuszczak

O'Shea
Pique
Brown
Simpson

Nani
Carrick
Fletcher
Eagles

Rooney
Saha

Rooney being the captain is awesome and it would be great to see Brandy, Evans or Hewson on the pitch.

..thats still a pretty good side... :)

Yeah, don't think it will be a 7-1 trouncing either way. Maybe our fringe players will step up and play well to prove their worth..

I can't see Roma playing with as much contempt as United are by fielding a load of juniors but they are also through remember so tey may want to rest players also.
Although I can see them being too strong for us and a 2-0 defeat looks ominous....

Team details (probable) -

Roma (4-2-3-1): Doni; Cicinho, Mexes, Ferrari, Tonetto; De Rossi, Pizarro; Esposito, Giuly, Taddei; Totti.

Manchester United (4-4-2): Kuszczak; Simpson, Pique, Evans, O'Shea; Eagles, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani; Rooney, Saha.

Reckon Brown will start ahead of Evans for 2 reasons:

1) There is no point in bringing him to Rome for him to sit on the bench, its not as if you would bring him on as an impact sub to change the game around. Reckon all the first team squad that travelled will start

2) Pique's confidence is probably low after his last game (Bolton) to stick him in alongside Evans against the like of Totti would be foolish. You need someone with experience in beside him to lead. By all means Evans could well come on for Brown but you don't want to put Pique's confidence in danger

Agreed, got it spot on.

That's what i'm hoping for too.

An early goal would settle nerves and do a great deal for our chcnes tonight. Go at them from the off and try catch Roma cold perhaps.

A draw is what I foresee. And I'll be very happy with a draw, with these young ones.

We have to win otherwise this experience will be a waste for Rooney being a losing captain, and a waste for the likes of Evans getting a chance then losing

We will be hammered, as long as Roma put out a half decent XI.

Anything less than a goal defeat is a bonus tonight.

Rooney, Carrick and Saha are only in the team to get match fit.

Rooney is captain, Any team with Rooney, Saha, Carrick, Nani & Fletch are capable of getting a result...I want to keep up the 100% record...

Also this from SSN...
"I'm hoping that we get Park back soon," said Ferguson.

"He played in the practice game on Sunday and was absolutely outstanding.
"I hadn't registered him for Europe at the start of the season because we didn't think he would be back until January with his injury.
"I didn't register him, otherwise I would have taken him to Rome and he would have played.
"I've got the bonus of him coming back into the fold. We want to probably get a reserve game for him next week and then he can play in the first team any time."

Just like getting a new player!!

Would like to see this team

Kuszczak
Simpson Brown Pique O'Shea
Eagles Fletcher Carrick Nani
Rooney Saha

Subs - Heaton, Evans, Chester, Lee, Hewson, Dong, Brandy

Evans on for Brown after 55-60 min.
Dong/Brandy on for Rooney after 70 min.
Dong/Brand on for Saha after 80 min.

Spot on, couldn't have said it better myself. Though I have a feeling Lee will be involved in a way, because he has a little more experience then the latter.

Thanx :)
yep, Lee might come on instead of Brandy I think. Lee has played in the carling cup team the last two seasons, so he might get 25-30 min today. I can't remember, but did Brandy play against Coventry?

Lee is a central midfielder/full-back, Brandy is an out and out attacker. Not really an either/or with those two.

I would love to see Brandy. It would have been even better to see Welbeck

I'd rather see Brandy as well, but Lee is like the O'Shea of the reserve squad, and has a bit more experience then the rest.

this game may become a dull 0-0 or even a thrashing against us, but i cant wait for this game....just to see what our young lads can do
