Barcelona 2017/18

But could have been easily avoided with some good signings.

Who?

With most of our wages being compromised between Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Iniesta, Busquets and Pique you don't have too much room to sign top players, who could we have signed in the last year that's setting ablaze European football? Tielemans? Renato Sanches? Dele Alli? Kante?.

The fact that we pursued every Real Madrid midfielder (Modric, Kroos, Isco, even Asensio to a point) is no coincidence, those were the guys most likely to take the spot of Xavi and Iniesta as best midfielders in the world, but when Real Madrid goes to them offering being stars and 90 minutes per game, and we have to try and convince them to come fight their chances against Xavi and Iniesta that was bound to fail, probably even our starting mifdielders wouldn't like to have those guys in the squad, they were too big of a threat for their role in the team.

I'm more pissed at what we let go than what we didn't sign, Bartra would be an ok option as our 3rd CB, Grimaldo might be an idiot and screwed Barcelona before, but he was class in the LB, Thiago should've never left, Sandro was treated poorly, we didn't really need to go guns blazing for Alcacer, we already had someone of the same talent. We let go players that not only were valid and saw little money in return, they were raised by us, they would at least put more heart than Andre Gomes or Arda.

But the real problem is that we had a team built to play for three players, it didn't work always but it was a reasonable bet, losing a top 3 player and not replacing it would hurt any team at every level, can you imagine Real Madrid keeping their level if suddenly they lost Modric and didn't sign anyone to replace him?

Erm dele alli is one of the worlds best talents. They have no chance of getting him any more than dembele or Coutinho

I'm talking totally in hidsight, like getting Dele Alli past summer, or the improbable chance of signing him two years ago, even if we managed to do that I don't believe a midfield with Alli and Rakitic would fare really better, we probably would've ruined him.

The right train passed with Real Madrid current midfielders, maybe Pogba but we'd never manage to add his wages to what we already have. To be what we once were we'd need a special kind of players like Silva, Hazard, Ozil, Vidal or Thiago. No way we could afford their transfer + wages with the backpack we were carrying

Messi hasn´t signed his new contract yet. Oh shit.

Never understood why they make a player do keepy upies infront of camera's when they first sign. Seriously what's the point

They also ask the players to kiss the badge, at least they used to.

It's to give the football connoisseurs like our resident CAF experts, the chance to evaluate a player and project their entire future based purely on 20 second of keepy upies.

They are fecked.

Also take note all clueless morons who think that building a starting eleven and be done with it is the path to success. You have to build squads with quality depth. Shit usually happens, and when it does, you have to be prepared.

I am not sure. Barca should look at this as an opportunity to get back to basics.

Play Messi as a false 9. Play with proper wide forwards who run the channels, overlapping full backs, bodies in midfield: the stuff that made them great. There's still enough they can squeeze out of Messi if they set up right.

So that fans will know for certain they signed a Footballer and that they have not been duped.

...and to make sure he´s not British, exceptions may apply to Welsh citizens.

They have a very easy start to La Liga up until the 8th game when they go to Madrid to face Atleti.

Valverde has these first 7 games to figure things out and Suarez's absence shouldn't be a huge problem.

Could have signed some youngsters or give La Masia's kids a chance.

They should have done what I suggested and sell him early for the same amount of money or in exchange of Verratti, instead they tried to play it smart.

Why would PSG give up Veratti if they can get Neymar without selling Verratti?

I'm pretty sure that if Verratti and Barcelona had acted properly, PSG would have been more receptive. Also Neymar being a far bigger name and a long time target could have convinced them.

PSG probably need Verratti more than they need Neymar. Their midfield becomes pretty meh without Verratti.

He has a great talent but he is replaceable since he has the bad habits to underperform in Ligue 1. Also Neymar makes more sense when you think about the fact that Emery's favorite formation is a 4231.

Edit: Concerning my initial post, I should have said "try" instead of "done" because obviously you never know what PSG will do themselves.

Yep, you can't keep Neymar and get Verratti at the same time. P.S.G are not stupid.

I know, but Pep could do well in accepting a challenge like that. I personally would like to see it, and at Roma specifically.

I see Roma as a bit of a sleeping giant (it's been their fate so far during their existence), but that can quickly change if Roma is successful in the immediate future. With Monchi, it's an attempt at it. Along with him bringing players through, Pep could be the right coach to do a Sevilla 2.0 in the Italian capital. Not now, but in a few years.

But yeah, it's probably not going to happen anyway. I do think Pep will return to Barca one day though.
He basically goes where's there's ton of money.

Yeah, Pep's not up for any of this challenge lark. Give him a ready made monster squad and/or unlimited resources and he's your guy.
This. He could try something at Roma and @Shuriken is right ,they are a sleeping giant but they have some owners who still sell their players around, nothing has changed money wise it seems there.

Just a reminder that Barca absolutely could have signed Kroos. They choose Rakitic instead

Are Brescia going to give him 200+ million every summer to work his magic?
He's going to develop home talent to dominate Europe. :D

Pirlo is from Brescia isn't he? He would have been the perfect Pep player.

They should've negotiated with PSG or Neymar to a deal where the buy out clause didn't have to be met but they would let Neymar go once they could get some of their targets in, before the whole world knew how much money they have.

What's the forecast looking like for Paulinho then?
