How far have they ever gone in Europe? Even these days they see fairly regular in the Europa Qualifiers.
In the 80s we made the first round of the old European cup 4 seasons in a row, which was our biggest achievment since being knocked out of second round of the cup winners cup in 1966 by Bayern Munich,
After a few barron years in 2010-11 we made the third qualifying round of the Europa League being knocked out by a blinding free-kick from Del Piero against Juve, (He got a standing ovation at the end of the game), Made the third qualifying round of the champions league the following season but were knocked out by FC Copenhagen
finally qualified for the group stage of the Europa League in 2011-12 season but finished bottom of the group with Spurs, Ruban Kazan and PAOK, the club had always struggled with finances and finding a ground to play in even, the new stadium (Tallaght Stadium) opened up in 2009 with a match against Real Madrid which was Cristiano Ronaldos debut, an incredible piece of history for the area.
Since manager Michael O Neill left for the Northern Ireland job after the 11/12 campaign we have really struggled though and could be a while before we return to Europe
The players we have seen up at the ground in the last few years have been incredible for the area though, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sneijder, Raul, Benzema, Del Piero, Buffon, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Van der Vaart, Trezeguet to name a few, even if we go years without qualifying again those memories have been worth it
