Berbatov | Fulham player

For me it's definitely that factor. The main question now is, just how big a drop would he have to take at another club? That might be a reason if he stays here and decides to willingly do nothing in the reserves. I said 'do nothing' since 'rot' is too harsh a word on the guy.

I dont think it would be too harsh if thats what he decided to do. I think he'd deserve a bit of stick for that. All the sounds from Berbatov's camp are that he's not happy and wants to leave, well we know we arent asking silly amounts of money for him like might have been a case in previous years. So its all on Berbatov now to accept whatever first team football comes his way, thats if he still wants to play it.

He's not happy, he knows we don't really want to keep him, so all thats left is sucking it up and accepting the change. The club are already willing to do that.

Wages are probably an issue but if reports of us only wanting £5m to £10m are true then it is crazy that a player of his quality isnt in demand

Maybe he just has a really shit agent or possibly he is being too picky in where he will go

Me thinks he wants CL football. Can't be about first team football because he'd walk into many teams, and its not about the money either as there wouldn't be a shortage of Middle Eastern or Russian clubs. I think he wants a realistic shot at some glory before retiring.

Just because we consider him surplus to requirements does not mean he has to move to small club or accept reduced wages. He's perfectly within his rights to sit out the remainder of his contract if it gives him better or more options when he becomes a free agent.

Fergie could have chosen not to extend his contract for another year, but he did. It was a gamble designed to help us get some money from selling him. But he got this one wrong.

I don't think Berbatov is someone who'd want to play for the reserves and pick up the money. Hopefully we'll let him go, even if just for a few million.

I know we will probably never see a combination of berbatov and RVP but I think it would work quite well. Sigh.

Agreed plus with the movement and cleverness of a Kagawa playing around the two of them it would be a mouth watering combination as Berbatov is such a clever player himself.

yes, exactly, he has excellent vision, better than Welbeck or Chico at the moment. Its strange, but I've always said that great player though he is, he just didn't click for united in the manner that Fergie wanted the team to play. However, with the signing of RVP he just might that catalyst (bit like a Cantona) that brings it all together...just maybe

It's a bold statement (easy to do since it will likely never happen,) but I honestly think we'd be better with Berbatov, RVP and Kagawa. The passing and class would be mouthwatering.

Anyway, it's all pie-in-the-sky.

He will stay till June, but he never will play again.
His manager rejected every offer, and refused to deal with other teams (fenerbache, galatasaray, Fiorentina, qpr)

 Got a source for that? Or just your opinion based on rumours?

Wheres the speed? Plus he's playing in exactly the areas Berbatov had his best season for United. He's close to a direct replacement.

Of course they could play together, any of our strikers could. But there would be no benefit over playing RVP with Rooney or Welbeck.

Berba-RVP would surpass anything Welbeck would have to offer alongside the same player. That is not even close to debatable.

Absolutely right, I get the impression that people think Welbeck is a better player than Berbatov because SAF opted to play him more last season. The reality is that SAF was just thinking too long-term and wanted to blood another youngster from the academy (in keeping with the traditions of the club). Berbatov is superior to Welbeck in every way apart from work-rate and speed.

I agree as well. For me, Welbeck is all about potential at the moment. For all the good games he had last season (and I'm not sure there were that many), there were a fair number of frustrating ones, complete with hesitant finishing and needless backheels, etc.

SAF obviously has long terms plans for the guy (and not for Berbatov) and that's fair enough. But if we are playing purely for the here and now, I think Berbatov is the better player (even as a partner for Rooney.)

Yeah I agree, Berbatov is a better player than Welbeck in most aspects of his game. In addition to being better he is also the possessor of natural beauty and charm, which is unmatchable. I think Fergie is using Welbeck ahead of Berbatov because Welbeck has a long term future in this club whereas everyone knows it is Berbatovs time to depart from the club. Welbeck was very frustrating in terms of his finishing last season but he was such a breath of fresh air, it was great to see his hunger and desire to chase after the ball even if everyone knew it was for a lost cause. He demonstrated his hunger in the game we lost to city 1-6 where he continuously came back to defend. Berbatov doesn't have that and never will and everyone has given up I guess.

hah?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

On top form.

Welbeck would make far more use of RVP's ability to play a teammate in and create more space for him to play in, just the same as when next to Rooney.

Of course the same people said Berbatov and Rooney would be a great combination. Genius.

Except for the area that matters, compatability with Rooney. And similarly compatibility with RVP who plays in similar areas and would thrive off the same things Rooney did last season.

Playing next to Berbatov, Rooney and RVP would have to be the legs of the strikeforce which is not playing to their strengths

Would still be a very weird one if he went there. The top clubs in Serie A dont rate him? If Fiorentina are willing to pay for him and pay his wages, why arent the rest?

While there is something to it, I don't completely buy into the 'compatibility with Rooney' thing for the simple reason that when Rooney is on, he can play with anyone; the exact opposite being true when he's going through one of his barren patches.

Many go on about what a great partnership Rooney and Tevez had, but if you think about it, their playing styles don't seem very compatible. The success they had (and I don't think it was as much as some remember,) was likely down to Rooney having his head in a good place.

For me, Rooney's best season was 2009-10, and he spent most of that season up front on his own (a position most feel doesn't bring out his best,) with fantastic results (a huge factor, IMO, in why Berbatov's second season was so unmemorable.)

I guess Rooney was never on during Berbatov's time at the club then

Hernandez and Welbeck open up the space for Rooney to thrive on so its no surprise that he's played better when they were given runs in the side. Rooney opens up the space for Berbatov and the end result was mediocre. Keane opened up the space for Berbatov and that worked better.

Looking at Milan today they could do a lot worse.

You would think so and yet their complete lack of interest seems to suggest they disagree. Whats going on?

Fiorentina have already brought in some attacking players, I guess its possible they sell Jovetic so they'd have some cash to burn but surely they wouldnt bring in a replacement who is 30+ and pay him wages that other better clubs think is over the top. That would seem to be a waste of money compared to bringing in a longer term replacement on more modest wages

What complex argumentation! Well done...

Only an person like yourself can believe such obvious bollocks. Berbatov is a far superior player to Welbeck. It's not debatable. Welbeck plays ahead of him currently simply because he is far faster and a much younger, long term project. Not for any other reason.

Says the man who claimed David Silva was shit and Mata was superior to him. I'd trust their judgement over yours any day frankly.

I really would like to keep him in the squad. He seems professional and i think the other young players could learn something from him

Welbeck offered far more work rate than Berbatov too. So he is more effective in more areas. Which is something Fergie always likes.

This would be a terrible reason to keep him. Why would you want to see him waste another year of his career?

Surely you mean overall less effective, but over a wide range of areas?

City fans are lucky that SAF decided to blood Welbeck last season. Berbatov would've surely seen us win. Not that we lost because of welbeck, we lost because of a lot of things, but surely with Berbatov having more starts, we would've scored far far more goals.

i hope he gets a deal sorted

he's too good a player for the league cup and the manager hasn't got berbatov in his plans

I'm genuinely shocked that teams with considerable money and short on striking talent like Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, QPR and even Liverpool didn't make a move considering his ability, his low tranfer fee - he was top scorer in his last full season
