Berbatov | Fulham player

I won't be surprised that Berba will be sold and replaced by Young who may not be as talented as him but he's faster, younger and more versatile.

if we sell berba, then we need to sign a striker as a replacement.

i know young can operate as a second striker but we need someone who can get us the 15-20 goals that berba would score..

He wouldn't get us those goals, that's for sure.

But you know, I still think there is something a tad misleading about Berbatov's goals last year. Not taking anything away from him, as he did score them, but a lot were quite concentrated over a few matches. In three games he scored half his league total.

Now, at the end of the day, on the stats it doesn't really matter, but I'd have liked to have seen the goals more spread in the season.

That is a myth

Berba scored his in 11 games
Tevez over 12 games and that includes penalties. 10 games without them.

Berba has also scored the most winners than any other striker in the league

It's just a silly argument anyway.

Robin Van Persie scored in 13 different games this season, and considering he only started 18 games that's a great record. But looking a little closer...

He only scored a single goal in 9 of those 13 games, and Arsenal's results in those games were: 2 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses.

If his goals were less spread out, Arsenal may have finished up with more points.

'Despite being heavily linked with a move away from the club Dimitar Berbatov has stated that he is very excited about Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA. United will play five games in July over in the States and Berbatov has fond memories of last year’s visit.

Speaking to Manutd.com Berbatov commented: “I really enjoyed my time in America last year. Everybody was very nice and friendly and the cities are very interesting. I must admit, a lot of people, including myself, were hoping we would go back to America this year. We’re all excited.”'

veron came on tour of america too..only to be sold two weeks later.

Was just about to say that too. I think a contract needs sorting else he'll be off. Although? this option we have to extend, can the club just wait until next summer and then use this extension? Do we really need to do it now.

If the club can choose to extend it next summer then I'd imagine he will stay.

He looked amazing on that tour too. I know they were only friendlies. But it almost made me not want us to sell him. But then after about a month into his Chelsea stint I was relieved we did

Seems like a day lost with no posting in the Languid One's thread. So, I wonder if he is getting a nice suntan or working on his sprints? Or possibly removing more of his hair so that Rooney can transplant it on his scalp? Teammates and all that. One for all and all for one.

He was at his foundation's awards ceremony. Passed a few exams. What a contrast with some other footballers' summer activities.

Doesn't surprise me, always struck me as a smart and down to earth guy.

class.

as much as i've shat on berba, to be honest, if i played for united, i'd probably want him to be one of my best mates on the team from all that i've read about him and how he comes of as.

Berbatov still awaiting United offer
June 18, 2011

Dimitar Berbatov has not yet been offered a contract extension but remains eager to remain at Manchester United, according to his agent.

Berbatov, 30, has a year remaining on his contract and, after his surprise omission from the Champions League final squad, serious doubts over his future at Old Trafford have been raised in the English press.

However, he has already underlined his desire to stay and, though the club have yet to make contact over a new deal, agent Emil Dantchev remains hopeful that his client will remain a Manchester United player.

"There is no news because we have not heard anything from anyone," Dantchev told Goal.com. "After we speak to Manchester United, we will know more, but now he is very happy to be a Manchester United player.

"Many clubs would be interested in Dimitar but he wants to stay in Manchester and win more trophies. He has a contract and he is not paying attention to the British media."

He has only 1 year left on his contract, he wants to stay and is ready to discuss about extending his stay at United, so why doesn't the club give clarity over his future?

After all the humiliation he endured (yet still so loyal and never hits out at the club nor the manager), the least the club can do is to show a bit of respect.

United might see him surplus to requirements - might want to get some money back whilst he has value - or he's asking for too much money and a contract United are not prepared to give. Berbatov has an ace up his sleeve, where he can run the contract down, and move for free. Likely scenario is United will try and sell to extract value, or will have to come to a compromise in contract negotiations.

Stating the obvious really.

Seems to me that club maybe possibly waiting to see what signings they make or if any club makes a bid for him. If come the summer and the club misses out on certain targets, then possibly the club will sit down and extend his contract for a year.

Or maybe we simply dont mind letting him run down his contract. Because if we succeed in recruiting Sanchez, added to singing Young, and Welbeck's return he'd be well replaced in the long term and we don't lose anything by keeping him around for one more year.

We'd lose a lot of money from him leaving on a free as opposed to getting £10m+ for him now.

One thing is for certain. If Berbatov is playing for a new contract he will have his best year. Is it true United had an option to extend his contract for a further year - or did I imagine that?

You're right. One way or another he wont walk away for free.
