Berbatov

Too many of you seem to think forming an effective striker partnership is all black and white.
'He does this, so he'll have to do that, whilst he won't be able to do that anymore' logic.
It's not that simple, lots of grey areas, and the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Do any of you really doubt SAF on getting this one right? I certainly don't.
For me, Berbatov is the man for United.

Agreed. So many rediculous comments about him not fitting into our team.

You'd think we didn't score any goals last season with the constant moaning about getting a 'real' striker.

BERBATOFF FOR £24M

EXCLUSIVE by AIDAN MAGEE

DIMITAR BERBATOV will join Manchester United for £24million — as soon as Tottenham land a replacement.

A deal has been struck in principle between Spurs and United, with the Bulgarian striker ready to sign a four-year contract worth £80,000 a week — double his present salary.

But even though Spurs are resigned to losing the 27-year-old, they have asked United to delay the transfer until they can bag another target man.

Boss Juande Ramos sees Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz, 26, as the ideal man to fill Berbatov’s boots and will now step up the chase for the Paraguayan.

A Spurs source said: “Ramos was resigned to losing Berbatov from the moment he took over but he won’t let him go unless there is somebody already in to replace him.

“United will give Spurs a bit of time — but Ramos cannot afford to wait too long.”

its happening...expect a press conference within the week

I am still not sure about Berbatov.

Hes a very good player but lacks pace and also I think there is an issue with his attitude. The type of player who would get in a mood and cause problems if he didnt play every game etc

He fell out with Jol and Ramos didnt like his attitude (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1413705.ece)

On the other hand, people want us to sign Ibrahimovic or Ronaldinho and say Fergie would sort them out. If Berbatov has an attitude problem (big if), then Fergie will certainly know how to handle this.

"But even though Spurs are resigned to losing the 27-year-old, they have asked United to delay the transfer until they can bag another target man."

What's the point of that?

If that is the case, then I hope Spurs sign which ever striker they are after quickly because it would be good if Berbatov could join our preseason tour in South Africa.

All this paper non sense is just filler I think

Is that the best they could come up with.

In all seriousness it looks like United have their man.

I for one am DELIGHTED. All the doubters will have a plate with their words on it and , and... a knife and fork, soon enough!

Berbatov is far from moribund.

I'm over the moon with the fact Berbatov rumours are gaining momentum. I think he is the perfect striker for us and although I rate players such as Benzema or Huntelaar, I think Berbatov suits the bill perfectly. I crave the day he signs for us.

Just what we need, Berbatov will really improve our team

Sign Berbs and play him, Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo upfront   :wenger:

Seriously I don't believe anything until it's officially announced. £24m would sound about right though.

He's said that?

No. He was asked whether he liked the Spanish league. To which he replied that he'd love to play there one day. I think he's said the same about the PL, as well.

In case that Ronaldo leaves. One man team eh?

Are those quotes for real and from a reliable source?

All just seems typical paper talk on a Sunday. Most of us just have a feeling that something is actually going on with this transfer, unlike most Sunday talk.

Yeah. But the bit that confused me was: "A source said....:"

Who are we supposed to believe?

The press who have at least some contacts in the industry, or you, who we know nothing about?

I wonder how many of you were complaining about signing Yorke from Villa for the record fee and how many of you experts were "convinced" that we payed over the odds and that he's not the right striker for us

I doubt there were many people who were completely happy with the Yorke signing (at the time). But for every Yorke, there is a Bellion/Djemba-Djemba or Miller etc....

The bottom line is that nobody can ever tell what will happen and we can only debate it on a forum.

For what it's worth, I think Berbatov is a fine player but I think we could do with an "out and out" striker instead....but I'm sure that he'll be a good buy, if we were to get him.

It's absurd ain't it? So many happy people if ronaldo leaves. We'd still be better then most

Berbatov won't flop in that way. He is a proven Permiership striker with great abilities, no a noname like Djemba-Djemba those days.

Well I know that...I was just saying that nobody knows how a signing will turn out.....

Fergie's best buys have been the players he's been tracking for a bit. As for the players you've mentioned, Fergie made a few bad signings during that period. But since he's been on the money.

I'm not his biggest fan, but if he could replicate something like this during his time here, I'd warm to him :)

Why should we replace Ronaldo with a striker?

While your here Glaston, expand on this and make us salivate with excitement.
There's nothing I want to add, but it's almost certain that Berbatov will be playing for you next season.

It is funny that when it comes to Ronaldo it's all paper bollocks but when it's Berbatov, it's seemingly more credible......

Because Ronaldo was playing as a striker in most of our biggest games last season.

Our system permits Ronaldo to play in a more advanced role due to the fact that we have two midfielders (Scholes and Hargreaves/Carrick) working hard to win the ball for all the others. Stating that he is still a winger. The only way you can play Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov together is to shift to a 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 system (similar to the AC Milan system). There again

a) the risk of producing little from the flanks is great.
b) we would still need to bring in another striker (apart from Berbatov) since you are replacing a player (Ronaldo) with another player (Rooney)

Id love to see Rooney playing in his natural role ie that of a link man just behind the main striker.
