Blackburn Rovers v Manchester Utd

Get Welbeck on and let's have a go at them. They haven't thrown anything at us apart from the last minute of the half.

1 Why no width on the left flank?

2 Why isn't Blackburn double teaming Valencia, he is our only threat...

3 Not sure about Rooney's role in this game...

4 Hernandez usually is a bit iffy in games vs teams defending low, Berbatov is our best suited striker in this type of games but he isn't even on the bench.

5 I'm also not sure about Jones role he seems to be a bit of a headless chicken so far. Carrrick and Scholes handles most of the passing among the central midfielders. Two's company three's a crowd...

6 Bring on Young or Giggs so United can get some proper width.

But that's not our main problem.

Our main problem is that there is literally no off the ball movement and huge gaps between midfield and attack.

Not to speak of the painfully slow build up play.

It's one thing to keep the ball but not risking anything at all isn't the answer either.

If tonight shows one thing again it's that Phelan and who else is responsible for our tactics has no clue on how to play with a 5 man midfield.

They kept the midfield crowded and hence it was hard to find the gaps. With 442 they would have been stretched, there would have been more crosses although less possession so formation does matter.

Worrying that we dominate possession but Blackburn still get chances to score.

Need a tactical reshift. Rooney needs to play closer to goal because Hernandez is being muscled out on his own.

I thought at the start of the game we didn't need to go for a three and I think the first half showed that. Sure they're dangerous on the break but if we bring Rooney inside and get young or welbeck on I think we'll get through then easily. And really how much protection is jones really giving? Not enough to compensate for the better attacking play putting Rooney or giggs there would provide. If fergie wants him for his height then take rafael off, but we need something extra and we can get that if we take jones off.

Oh man that should have been all over in the first twenty minutes

Two great chances for Hernandez, a pretty good headed chance for Jones, Evans should have done better too, all osrts of players finding themselves in space in the box. We may well rue that shit.

Pointless stat : 91% pass completion rate so far. Best for any away side so far in the league.

Jones as a midfield experiment is still a work in progress so why do it in a must win game?

Should Hernandez be starting games like this? He offers very little when we're not creating chances for him

We have done pretty well. The last couple of mins were a bit scary. I think a chance will come earlyish in the 2nd.

We have not been poor at all though, as suggested above.

Harsh to blame him. He's been bright when he's had service. He's just been a bit isolated by the system.

We have no width at the moment as everything is going down the right-side, and if rooney sits any deepr he'll need gloves.

I tend to agree. He offers little unless we are playing him in. I don't think there is anything wrong with the formation just that Waz should be up front and we should have A Young on the left.

I can't really understand why you're all complaining about the system, we've totally dicked on them apart from five minutes

Just haven't put it in the net, and we really, really should have

You must've missed Evra playing as a left-winger and Rooney probing excellently, it's worked very well I think. If we'd have gotten that Hernandez goal the goals would've flown.

What's with the fecking daft line up?

Why is Hernandez being forced to pretend to be Rooney, and Rooney being forced to pretend to be Ashley Young, when Ashley Young is on the bench?

This isn't just Jones in midfield. This is Jones in front of our midfield. He barely has any good qualities to play there.

I wish we'd stop drifting the ball out wide to Evra in the air. It never works and just loses us possesion every time. Keep in on the ground.

We did play well but we didn't create many clear cut chances, did we?? Whole left flank was missing.

We've been clueless in the final third. I'm not sure what good all the possession is when you don't create anything worth mentioning.

In the same way Arsenal have been dicking on every team for the last 7 years?

Passing it about aimlessly around teams isn't really a sign of domination.

Hahahaha,
We are sitting on top of the Premier Division League table if you hadnt noticed and you are stating that Phelan or whoever is in charge of tactics has no clue as how to play a 5 man midfield????

hahahahaha genius

I'm happy with the first half, the dominance is bound to be rewarded soon. Hernandez to nod a Valencia cross in early in the second half.

I think our play is a bit too predictable right now. Get the ball out to Valencia and Rafael and hope they cross it in and do something. We need a winger on the left as well. Where on earth is Nani?

Super half from DDG.

Only problem with that is Evra hardly puts any decent cross.

 Hernandez missed a sitter and a glorious chance, and two other players missed good chances. It's not like we haven't opened them up.

We've had 12 crosses from the right wing, that's not passing it around the team aimlessly.

Unbelievable Jeff.

Yeah I agree, we need an extra threat on the left to mix it up a bit. As I said sub Jones off as he's clearly not needed at the moment.
